The most significant negative of Sequoia is the sync with my iPhone and Mac. Email, photos, and text messages only sync some of the time. It is intermittent. I never had any issues with syncing before Sequoia.
I have used Macs so long, it's hard to get used to some of this new functionality. Hell, I still use icon view. Really just because I always have. I do try out your tips, however. Always good to try to keep up with things. 😎
Not connected but have to ask. On ipad, when I format a simple spreadsheet with text entries in a column, some of the entries have a space (slight indent) in front of the first character and I have no idea why. (There are other issues like cutting a pasting entries in the same sheet changes fonts/sizes for no reason). Maybe I should just stick to using numbers on my mac!
Safe? Password managers provide a security upgrade in many ways. Asking if a password manager is safe is like asking if a life preserver or seat belt is safe. The whole idea is to give you more safety.
Hi Gary - Thanks for the regular lessons! Do you know of a list of apps that stop working from one OS to another? I'm on 14.7. I want to upgrade to 15... BUT I read it has changed the 'signing' authorization and some app *versions* no longer launch. for me - I use Filemaker, but years-old version 14. I'm not a developer and don't want to upgrade as they changed the app so much to make it more of an 'app development tool' rather than a 'single user database app' unto itself. This means that every year when Apple updates its OS, I have to worry it will break the one thing I use most on my Mac (outside of of Pages and other built-in Apple apps). Claris does not provide the info - they only say if and when the latest version works with the latest OS. (I'm still astounded Claris is wholly absorbed within Apple, and that running FIlemaker databases isn't built into the OS or at least a free runtime is built into the platform like all the other Apple apps.)
I don't know of anyone that maintains such a list. If there is a particular app you are worried about, I would check with that app's developer. If they don't provide the info (and I can't blame them if you aren't on the current version) then there's not much you can do. Maybe find a friend with Sequoia and test it? But it sounds like eventually you'll need to move on from that old version of that app. So maybe do that now? Find another solution for whatever it is you are using it for? After all, you can't remain at 2023 software forever. Think about it this way: if you Mac broke (stolen, fire, etc) you'd get a new one and that would have Sequoia and need to move on from old apps. So instead of that potential disaster hanging over you, find new solutions now on your own terms and time schedule.
@@macmost Yeah... There just isn't a good replacement for this *really old* version of Filemaker. Claris/Apple completely broke it; no competitor ever matched it (at least in the areas that I use). I tried to make a new external boot disk -- an SD drive hanging off my M1 Mini -- booting off that, installing the update to 14 on the external - all in order to test FM without making a change on my main internal drive... only to see the update applied itself to the internal drive, not the boot drive. Luckily it still worked. Oh well, Thanks for the reply, Gary.
My MacBook Air Bluetooth can't turn. I have tried so many times trying to turn it on but it just doesn't and I don't know why. It was working before then all of a sudden after turning it off, now it won't turn back on again. Kindly help me if there are some tips to turn it back on please. Thank you
Hi, First of all, I would like to thank you as I have learned a lot from you about Mac OS. Why I am commenting here to discuss an issue that I have been facing for the past few days I did not find any suitable platform to contact you so I am writing it to you here. Problem: I am using a Macbook Pro 2020 or 21, 13 inch, with a touchbar. For the last week, the touch bar has been flickering a lot; it's light is also faded, and sometimes, when I am turning on the laptop it is not turning on the touchbar. I do not know how to fix this issue as my laptop is always on my desk and I am using extended screen, keyboard and a mouse. Please guide.
@@macmost We don't have the option like on Windows to make the screen sleep while keeping the system awake? It's really useful when downloading large files
@@macmost Nope doesn't work. Been dealing with Apple for a week now. Also once you open a photo's library on the Mini that was created on an older iMac it places a code in the file so it can't be opened any longer on the older iMac.

Do you know how to get the data in iMessages on the iPad to stop going up? I'm not even using it and the data keeps going up. Does this happen to you? I noticed it after the iPadOS 18 update. It happened before on my first gen iPad mini. I hope the Mac isn't like this. I wish we could just delete the iMessage app.
Sorry, I'm not sure what you are experiencing there. Data? Do you mean the amount of storage being used by Messages? It will go up a tiny bit with each message you send or receive, naturally.
@ The storage, yes. I don’t send or receive messages. I have it turned off. It was at 7.7mb, and kept going to 7.9mb and back. Now it’s at 8mb. It did it on my older iPad before, and now it’s doing it on this one. If it’s anything like before, it’s just going to keep going up.
@@j.j4090 I don't know why it says it is going up, if you aren't using it at all. Still, pretty minuscule amounts. I don't know if I'd worry too much about it.
Why doesn't Apple have a setting so the text in a column (in window column view) automatically expands (perhaps on mouse pointer hover) to see all the text in a column at full width, not truncated like it currently is? This has been infuriating for years!
Probably because it would be disorienting. You'd fly through folders with the down arrow or by clicking and the columns would be expanding and shrinking with each one. That's my guess anyway. I bet they tried it and found it to be a real problem.
