    Great video. Completed it under $40 and in under 2 hours. Measuring twice took the most time.

    I did a similar setup. Used ratcheting ropes connected to eyeholes on 2x4s attached to joists in ceiling. The other end that goes under my hard top has 2x4s that run under the hardtop. Since mine is a carport with no garage door to block wind, I store it all the way at roof level with a few foam blocks on top of the hard top between the ceiling and hard top. Great video as always. I could send you pictures of my setup if interested. Cost about $50.

      Hey Pretzel, please do!!!, I will add them to the article on the website to share with the CheaperJeeperTV community.....thanks for the sharing of info. The subscriber that shared the cam strap strategy said he chose to use cam straps as he could control raising and lowering of the hard top easier by simply pressing the button and pulling or releasing the tensing on the strap. How do you do it with the ratchet?

    • @Tgauchsin
      @Tgauchsin 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      CheaperJeeperTV same way. I just hold the hardtop to release a little pressure and push the release button to lower them. The ratchet ropes are almost identical in action to what those straps in your video are. They don’t really work like a ratchet. They make a clicking noise as you tighten them.

    Any DIY ideas for freedom panel storage?

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My Jeep came with a protective storage bag. I'd keep them in that and store it in the garage somewhere safe. Some people keep them on a cart where they store there doors when they are removed.

    On one of the videos I watched one of the comments regarding storing the hard top long-term hanging would eventually damage it due to the bottom losing it's form., I'm worried because I want to switch to the soft top for the summer.

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. I never heard of that before. Maybe if you suspended 2x4s for the top to rest on, the top won’t get distorted from the stress of the straps as the top will be resting in the 2x4s, and the straps will just keep it elevated. Cheers.

    Quick question and sorry for my ignorance but what happens if you don’t use the 2x4? Can I just do it as it shows in this video ? Thank you very much!

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are able to locate your joists and screw into them accurately through the drywall on the ceiling then you are OK. Some people might not be able to do that due to the construction of their garages and may be better off to secure two by fours first. Whatever works for you. Thanks for watching. Cheers.

    Did the subscriber use additional straps that went under the canopy? Looks like yes? Or did they do something with the cam straps to have it go all the way underneath??

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Joseph, Yes, the subscriber used an additional strap to span between the cam straps. Cheers.

    So how are you getting the straps and foam pads underneath the hardtop while it's sitting on the jeep?

    • @randylowden1902
      @randylowden1902 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Richard. It's a bit of a pain, for sure. I just feed the straps between the roof and the sport bar - and stick the foam between that. Recently I added the Topsy Hinge Hoist Bracket Kit for the back of my JL. A game changer! Hope that helps.

    At 2 minutes you said you could add 2x4. My joists run the same as you showed and 24 inch from each other. I just used eye bolts into the center of the joists. Is this wrong ? Should I use a bar? I feel like the weight is still not being utilized without drilling into the middle joist.

    • @CheaperJeeperTV
      @CheaperJeeperTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’re able to use the current orient if your existing jousts, then that’s perfect. Cheers
