Thank you. I was brainstorming in my head something like this but seeing it in use and built reassured me. I ended up building it with a few modifications. The back legs on the side pieces I made of 4x4 and that allowed me to use carriage bolts and wing nuts to install and remove the back brace for storage and tear down. I also did a diagonal brace on the side legs for added support to structure (my topper is for a truck so it’s heavier than the jeep top. Lastly I got some carpet fabric to wrap the “pegs” mine are full on 2x4 that span across the entire structure. I get in the camper use my back to lift the topper and slide the (2) 2x4 in they rest on top of either side of the legs. Thanks again

July 2023 I saw this video and watched it about 5 times to make sure my questions were answered. They were! Lumber is EXPENSIVE @$150.00 TOTAL coast on supplies, but well worth the fact it works just as in the video and I can lift and load my hardtop myself.
One MOD I did was to add caster wheels to the sides - perfect MOD for the one person jeeper and a HOA. I just roll it into the garage.
    Thanks CheaperJeeprTV

Just finished building this! I'm a mechanic (large air compressors) but I'm not a carpenter. This was a pretty easy build. I had to adjust a few measurements due to larger tires and a lift, but it works great! I'm thinking about casters though because my tires are still rubbing when I back up (I said I'm not a carpenter) and I don't want to have to replace a good hard top! Thanks for this video! I'm going to try to tackle the sleeping platform next. I love your videos! Thanks from Myrtle Beach, SC!

AWESOME solution, great ingenuity! I used a Home Depot scaffold for my hard top removal and storage, and that worked great, but it was still somewhat clumsy. This is the best solution I've seen. Add wheels to your structure for a final improvement....

Thank you for your build inspiration! I have an open carport, so I will add the casters, as others have mentioned, roll it back, and tarp it when removed. Another addition will be some sort of felting or thin carpeting to the bungee corded stakes to prevent scratching on the side of the hard top as it slides down/up into place. Thank you again!

I have made a few changes to your design. It was actually similar to one I was working already. I turned the 2x4's to their flat sides and placed lockable rollers on the bottom. I used 1x4's for my slides, and I built a similar back brace but where you used 2x4's secondary braces, I did the same but since my frame is set flat, I built close to yours and covered in 3/4 plywood and extened the edge 3.5 inches to reach the outside of the 2x4. I then used 4 carriage bolts and butterfly nuts to go through the plywood to lock it together on each end, but also able to break it down and store it easier. The casters were cheap at capable of 130lb's per caster and have locks. I did a 2 other braces the same way as my first, a second one for the rear and a single to sit center of the front .I can now roll the lid where every I need it. After putting the cab on the 2x4 cross braces, I did the same carriage bolt trick to lock them in place, plus giving the system a bit more stability since they are bolted down through the supporting 2x4 and the 2x4 and 2x8 top plates.

Thanks to this you gave me a better structure. You can use unistruts and use nuts and bolts then wood for parts not to damage rear hardtop. With wheels you can make it more mobile. But my problem is putting roof top tent by myself. Now here is my new idea. Manual hoist in garage to hold roof tent. Build a similar rack with unistruts. When outside installing I can slowly raise tent by using a way for unistruts to slide up 2 feet with gas struts to help lift it above the Jeep roof rack. I should be able to assemble and disassemble the platform mostly with nuts and bolts. Tent weighs 160lbs so it should be strong enough.

Well I built one with wheels and 4x4s for corner posts. I don't have concrete so mine had to roll on grass. Also had to adjust measurements for the Teraflex roof rack bolts to clear the roll bar. Works better than expected! All during the build i wasn't sure it would turn out, but it did. It is a lift and cradle all in one!

Just got finished building this, but I ran into an issue. I have a 2019 2D Sport. All stock and my steaks hit the window then I can lift the top because of the lip of the top to the window. Think I have to shorten the sides by 3”. Do you have a Sahara or Rubicon? I’m thinking that might be my height issue

The top shelf should be at the height of the bottom edge of the hard top. That way, when the peg is spring loaded against the bottom of the hard top, you only have to lift it 1.5”(the height of the peg) for it to deploy. Then you can just rest it down on the pegs. If you need to adjust the height afterwards to suit your situation, either cut to shorten or add to the length of the legs to raise. Does that make sense?
