I have memorized until 2:57 and can play it beautifully now but the middle part and the last part are a lot more difficult than the first part as I have small hands to play 4 note chords each hand but I should manage with practice. Wish me luck. Thanks for this video. I have just returned to playing the piano this year end of january after 10 years off. In that time I learned one amazing piece moonlight sonata 1st movement.
hii, it would be nice to hear that now you might could play it perfectly!! anyways same heree i also have small hands and its not easy to me either :(( but reading your comment inspired me so much wish me luck!! ♥️♥️
Thank you so much for posting these. As a young classical pianist recently dropped out of berklee college of music these help me stay connected with my art. My mother and my two mentors who taught me for two decades were Juilliard graduates always praised this piece. I love that I can examine it closer thanks to you. Keep posting! Maybe some slow versions of Schubert? :D
Wow, I now remember learning to play this as a kid just before I dropped off for many years (cough --decades). And interestingly your wife's video of Helene Grimaud's playing of Piano Concerto #2 last year now has me listening to Rachmaninoff whenever I can. Maybe I'll try to tackle the Preludes again as an adult! :)
Or Broder I never knew about this new speed feature and these super slow videos were not planned to be used with this feature. One really should not be listening to them at two times the speed to make them "full speed". The whole point of the super slow videos is to make it so that one "must" listen to it slowly and, most importantly, students try to practice them at these slow speeds.
Thanks for the advice. I also think that when you truly play a piece precisely at a slow tempo and starts to "inherit" the piece, the speed isn't a problem(from my experience). Thanks again for your uploads, the thing with the speed feature was only a nice experiment(it does mess up the sound).
Caitlyn Waltler You cant reach an octave? My older brother is 5 5 " height i am 5 7" height. He cant reach and octave and i dont care about it. If you cant play this try other piece for your hands. Dont frustrate or get sad. My whole love and positive feedback for you. Yours: Sergio López from Perú. I am 25 right now.
This is the whole reason I gave up playing at some point completely. My fingers are just so freaking short compared to many of my friends who don't even play any instrument. I've been struggling for a year or two trying to fight it by removing a note here and there and it sounded so off that I came to the only conclusion - this is not for me. I can't. And if I can't play a piece I enjoy the way it is supposed to be played - there is no reason, it's a waste of time. The weird part is that I don't really know why I am still angry at myself. It's nature, you can't do anything about your fingers. But it pisses me off so much :D
I have small hands too, but I'm playing this piece for a competition next week. I do have to let go of some notes and sustain it with the pedal, though.. can't help it, my hands are too small.
Am I the only one who switches the RH and LH thumb-notes when they cross each other, especially when playing d and b natural? Just wondering. I only do the switcheroo when both thumbs play adjacent black notes OR white notes. Check out 2:15, for example.
Bro on the sheet, C-sharp and B have like this kind of bracket, which basically means that you play both notes really fast, so in this case, you play C-sharp first and quickly play B.

keep practicing! I'm sure you'll get there :)
Did you get it all yet? ❤️

Thank you. How smooth are your fingers! I'm learning this 37 years after quitting at grade 2. You're a gem 😉

Thank you so much! You don't know how much you helped!
Really enjoyed your slow demo. Thanks for your efforts.
Put in 2x2
Thank you very much BachScholar. You've really helped me again.
Amazing piece beautifully played.
Excellent!!
Strangely enough I like the slow version. I extract more depth somehow.. Well done!!!
Not strange -- played slowly, this piece feels more soul-searchingly intense.
@@joylara8200 thanks for the schooling)))
Hi Cory, love your videos. The new speed feature for TH-cam fits perfect with your uploads :).

tysm for this!!! It's been very helpful!!!
Beautiful harmonies
Finally!!!
Use playback speed to 2.0 or 0.25 sounds scary
Sounds like Garick Ohlson
Ok gracias
One of may favorite pieces all time. Something about it is magnificent! Check out the Locke and Key Netflix trailer using this music.
BachScholar: I'd love to see you play this REALLY fast!
I learned this piece with left hand using two fingers and right 4. But it works for me.
right hand at 3:45 welp, guess i'm not learning this piece, tiny hands you've failed me yet again.

@@VGHOST008 play pieces that don't require big hands :D

@Jörmungandr the most ignorant and self-entitled comment of the week goes to you, sir.
Your piano sounds absolutely perfect!!! I'm very jealous of that
tone. What kind of piano and recording equipment do you use?
Boo Ner Sounds like a Fazioli or C. Bechstein soul and looks alike.
It's an Steinway and Sons, you can see the logo on the piano

Lucy Westman i think its harder when you switch them or maybe it is harder for me
Lucy Westman Rachmaninov intended for you to be switching hands. Thumbs are supposed to cross back and forth.
thank you! do you need a 88 key piano for this piece or will 61 keys be enough?
Did you stick to a metronome hard core? If so what speed? 🤓
IF you put it at 2 speed its around the right tempo
3:04
For personal use
3:40 and 3:44, 3:58etc everyone plays those low c sharps but I don't see then written on the music sheets am I missing something?
Bro on the sheet, C-sharp and B have like this kind of bracket, which basically means that you play both notes really fast, so in this case, you play C-sharp first and quickly play B.
3:26
4:10 at x2 speed lmfao
If u mastered everything up to this part, it will be (imo) the easiest part of the piece. Even with much faster speed
At 2x speed its still not the original speed btw
Rahmaninoff is bad. He should be dismissed from classical composers' list.
you're playing way this piece way too slow man
DiceW44 did you even read the title of the video?
Yeah, is Rachmaninoff. But is not supposed to be this slow, it ruins the music. Only my opinion and if u like it, no problem.
I meant the “super slow” part but okay.
@@grizzley6937 I'm just kidding mate ;)
Oh okay. Sorry about that
4:34
