I highly doubt this gentleman is the engineer who design the product. few smart people may deassemble all parts but no one can't reassemble it back. amazing work. really admire you. you have all my respect.
$100 repair work for a $20 reel 🤣 Amazing work either way! I’ve wanted to do this to so many reels but realized the value isn’t worth the effort and supplies.
There was a few times, I was like noooo what is he doing…🫣😄 But I have to say you did a good job! I think it could still use some oil on the bearings and the spool shaft but overall it turned out nice. Good job 👍🏼
Wow, this was really awesome! I have an old Southbend reel that I want to try to restore. I've never done any kind of restoration, but since this was my very first saltwater reel, I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Nice job. I have repaired dozens of reels, I got satisfaction doing so. How ever at 60 yrs old I am glad to say there are better alternatives to repairing, throw the damn things out ! For $100 you can buy a new Daiwa BG or an Okuma (which is cheap and easy to repair). I have no less than 60 reels and a bucket w another 10 that repairs did not restore to new condition. And if your a fresh water fisherman you can buy $50 reels that should last years, in SW Florida it's all salt for me.
I got a free vintage Quantum reel thrown in with the eBay purchase of another reel and the free one is almost as old and is in similar condition to the one in this video. I have this video saved in my Watch Later list, so that I could restore the old Quantum. After watching this video, I realized I do not own the $3000+ in tools and equipment used in this video, nor do I have 30 spare hours available, to turn a two dollar reel into one that is about half as good as one I can buy off Amazon for $18 new (a 4000-sized Quantum Optic is $17.64 and is decent quality). I just threw my old Quantum in the garbage.
I have done restorations for years . the ones I get are ones from people who come to me can you restore this it is the one I got when my dad took me fishing or its my dads reel and means alot to me. Thatis what I like about doing them. the jpy you see when they pick them up worth more then the money. Why do we restore cars .? I have even bought and restored and given then away to young kids who had no one to teach them how to fish. Try it sometime a lot of fun, Great video
Is it worth doing this? As in the time etc? Where i live the bays are super salty and the inside of reels look WAY worse than that. The hex circlip you pulled up, i've had them rust through in 2-3 years and even the centre shaft rusted beyond saving even with a wire wheel
I think refurbishing reels would be a great opportunity to powder coat a lot of parts. That would make then impervious to rust and peeling and be able to work a lot longer without as much servicing them. However, you really did a great refurbishing of this reel... Thumbs Up!
Wow haven't seen these in years. Entry level Olympic reel, mid to late 80's. Only one ball bearing. The head is not original. Not a good choice to go fishing but it would look nice as a vintage themed room.
Nice work but,its alot of effort for low quality reel . I would not really spend time on that . If your really into it though , i would say have at it . For me it would have to be a Penn 704 reel or something similar to put in that kind of effort . That reminds me I have to get going on my Penn 704 rebuild hahaha .
That’s what I meant , you didn’t have to do all that work . I redune one exactly like it like I stated in my comment ten years ago and I still use it occasionally.
good work, meticulously and patiently, unfortunately you painted it, personally I think that precisely the imprint of time was its true value... I hope you don't mind my opinion.Greetings from Romania.
Вопрос только: зачем тратить средства и время на это(не считая зарабатывания на ютубе)? Ведь ловить таким сегодня просто невозможно - это же жуть, а не катушка. И как по мне, она даже сильнее стала шуметь после реставрации)
Is nice back on time now days there to many differents ones to choose all china men I will back to learning how fishing is all about now I retire I will to do fishing lessons to spend my retirement thanks I think you read my mind thanks again

Good job on restoring that fishing reel to working order, and it looks much better too. Excellent work.

The way the reel works is very unique and different from modern reels
Impressive work along with an excellent video.

Have you ever used the Olympics reel. It's not going to break when you have a good fish. I will work for another 30 or 40 years . Goofy

Excellent job wow plus sure its not easy to do it thanks for sharing this info
A job well done ,congratulations, love it !

Excellent job, thanks for running us through the steps to referbish a fishing reel. Perhaps a mat finish paint on the spool may be considered.
Yea, too bad we have no clue what so ever what the liquids and concoctions were. Sure could of used some more information.

Most are aluminium so rust is not an issue
🤦🏻♂️ это ж как нужно нелюбить рыбалку, чтобы такую недешевую катушку так засрать!

We fished with a stick and string, so this is doable…

Agree....one bearing doesn't make for smooth casting and reeling.
It would work just fine as a legit reel for fishing

I admire your hard working! 😂
How did you go with the roller bushing?
Nice, except you should wind a lot of thicker line underneath the nylon line. 100 meters of nylon is more than enough. But restored very well!
Wow amazing
Great job🌷🌷
how did you dispose of the fishing string?
Look nice, is it for sale??
Well done, pleasure to watch.
How is there fresh braided line underneath the old monofilament?
