- In this video, we take a Subaru Forester out with an Outback Wilderness, Crosstrek and Outback for an adventure on the Transalta Trail in fresh, deep snow! Unfortunately for us, the snow gets a little deep and all the Subarus get stuck... What Subaru will make it the furthest in the snow?!
If you're looking for a snowy adventure, be sure to check out this video! We take a Subaru Forester out for a spin on the Transalta Trail in fresh snow and get stuck... mustering up the courage to get out and push through is definitely an experience! Don't forget to share this video if you enjoyed it!
The Forester: Built over a few years the 2004 Subaru Forester XS was built to test the limits of what is capable in an early 2000's Subaru with bolt-ons. Created for overlanding adventures it takes on the hardest offroad trails while having everything for camping. The Forester features: custom interior, rooftop tent, ARB rack with custom mounts, high clearance bumper, winch, Hella lights, transmission cooler, sway bar delete, offroad coilovers, AT tires, Beadlock wheels, overland kitchen and engine and trans skid plates. And to many people's surprise often keeping up with full-size 4x4s.

Do you like to go out in the cold?! Are you ready for more winter adventures?
Beautiful vistas, as usual! What a fun adventure! The Outback seems like it needs more ground clearance. Great video!
Thanks! It is always a great time out there! Haha yeah a bit more a lift would definitely help with not get high centred
Looks a great snowy adventure you had, I enjoyed watching 👍
It sure was! Glad you enjoyed it, hopefully we get a few more this year
Such a fun day out in the trails! Can’t wait to do it all again
It was epic, thanks for coming! Looking forwards to the next one!
Cool video, We are in Michigan with our 24 crosstrek premium, the oem yokohama geolander g91 all season were great on dry and wet roads. The first light snow and ice here we lost control in a stop situation. Yesterday took the tires with 1900 miles and installed a set of Michelin cross climate 2’son the car. The snow in Mi is gone now but will be returning soon, weird winter. Have had great success with the cc2 on my lincoln mkx awd the last two plus years.
Thank you, I have plenty more videos where that came from haha. I have heard from a few people the Geolander g91 isn't great when the temperatures drop. I'm sure you will have much better luck with those, when we finally get our second round of winter
Tires tires tires. ✌️
Oh for sure, tires make a huge difference! You could see that even comparing the Forester to the Outback. What tires would you run?
What tires were you and Austin using, Brand/model/size?
Mine are Toyo Open Country AT3 in 225/75R15. Austen are Weslakes AT 215/75R15.
Three things will affect whether or not you get your suby stuck in snow. The first is tires. You need snow tire for driving in snow…not AW tires, not AT tires. The second is, obviously, how much snow there is and it’s type, wet, dry, slush, depth…etc. The third and most important, the driving abilities of the driver. I’ve been driving in Canadian winter snow for over 45 years. Lots of hours of driving in snow…experience is the big factor here. Just because it’s an AWD Subaru doesn’t mean it will go through everything.
It's a fine balance of tires as we also went over some wet and rocky terrain where the ATs shine, what tires would you run? I would love some Artic Truck tires someday to test but with the variations in weather here they wouldn't get much use. Yup, as mentioned these hardpack snow drifts were the real killers. It even got that gladiator stuck! Some have many years and some are still learning, so we like to play in these low-risk environments. How would you have handled driving in this snow differently? Of course not, we never expected to be able to go through everything, but that is half the fun! We love to push the limits and see what we can do.
Great video! Looks like a great snowy adventure out wheeling with friends. Cool to see my identical green outback too! I'm curious does Austen have a lift on it?
Thanks, it was a lot of fun to make! You got the same one? No way haha, it does have a lift! At Flat 4 have been testing a few lifts on it, I think it had a 2in spacer lift on it at this time
@@Chase_Schrader yes I sure do! I love it, it’s a great car and I’m still in the early stages of modifying it. Cool yeah looked like 2 inch. I’m going to lift mine at sometime, probably 1.5-2”.
Awesome, they are great cars! What lift are you thinking of doing?
@@Chase_Schrader yes! Probably going with a Rallitek or Anderson Design fab lift spacer kit.
Ah nice, those are both good kits!
6:56 Looks like that Gladiator is stuck for good. Curious if that Gladiator unstuck by itself or got pulled.
Haha yeah it's stuck! The red Tacoma had to pull the Gladiator out
@@Chase_Schrader That's what I thought. You should've included Tacoma pulling out Gladiator in your video. We all need few slices of humble pie btw.
Haha, I definitely should of! It was taking a long time so I was talking with people lol
I felt your last name rang a bell at the start of thr video, later I realized where I remembered it from- Schrader valve.
Hahaha yup, sadly I’m not related to the inventor of the valve
seems like the Subies managed pretty well
Oh yeah! And that was playing nice, if we wanted we could of risked it and pushed a bit harder and probably of got to the end
Hey how low did you drop your PSI for this? new to offroading based in NZ. is there a website you guys use?
In the snow I drop my tires to around 10psi! What kind of website are you looking for?
@@Chase_Schrader what about gravel/rocky roads what PSI do you use?
If I want to go faster like on a forestry Access Road I will drop them to around 15, but if it’s something really tricky I will drop it down lower since I do have bead locks!
Tires.
Yup, tires make a huge difference, you see that when comparing the Forester to the Outback! What tires would you run for this?
Hey, I’m also local to the Calgary area and have checked out trans-Alta. Is there a FB group or something for Calgary off-road Subarus or softroading? Awesome video!
Awesome! There is a couple groups, reach out to me or my company Flat 4 Offroad on social media and I can point you in the right direction. Hope to see you out there some time!
Hey Chase, would you be able to drop the coordinates for the frozen waterfall? Would love to know where it is!
I can't find the exact coordinate but it is in the Ghost PLUZ on the Transalta trail around here: 51°18'05.2"N 115°09'20.8"W. That is probably better anyway as you will want to stay on the trail down in the river bead.
Amazing! thank you so much! I msg on FB before and im picking up my new OBW in 2 weeks! Will give you a shout when I get it. @@Chase_Schrader
Awesome, I thought I recognized you! For sure, let me know when you have it and I would be happy to show you some of the trails!
Hola amigo,me podrías aconsejar un liquido de dirección para Impreza del 2006 atmosférico de 160cv, gracias y sigue así con este estupendo canal
Subaru's aren't picky about their power steering fluid, any Dexron III ATF will work!
Your narrating voice lol.
What about it?
