Just dropping in to say I still listen to these every now and then. Hope you're well!

Mesmerizing stuff. All this nautical gloom reminds me of 'The Lighthouse' (2019), great Love-Ligottian movie if you're not aware.

To add on to my super general reply, i liked the mix of lovecraftian elements with traditional nautical mythology. When he kills the "albatross" it curses them from then on, which is very much like some sailor tale from the 19th century. I like that it's never really explained what exactly is up there in the lighthouse.

@@grimscribe6454 Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. The early Ramsay Campbell stuff I read was a showing a bit too much detail so he's pulled back from that with this one. He's had a long time to figure things out. August Derleth who promoted the Chthulhu Mythos after Lovecraft's death (and wrote bad ones himself!) mentored Campbell a bit apparently. Cool connection!

Everyone here would be very aware of the lighthouse lol

@@TheMarauderOfficial it is always worth mentioning for new people discovering things. Underwater, Dragon and Cold Skin are all in the same vein varying wildly in quality and fish bonking.

I tried to listen to a version of this on another channel before finding this. It was indecipherable, in and out of strange OTT accents, one I believe was supposed to be Scottish, but carried on between the narrator and the nephew. Incredibly difficult to listen to.
This is a breath of fresh air; an excellent narration of Ramsey’s creepy tale by the sea.

Well shit, 1000 subscribers, that’s pretty cool! Thanks everyone. I’ll have to do something special next. This is a busy time for me right now as I am setting up my classroom for the next school year, but I’ll get something going soon, got some fun ideas. Hope you all are doing well.

Thanks. I didn't realize that he's been writing since the 60's! He generates a great amount of discomfort in his stories, kind of reminds me of Junji Ito in his way of making podunk urban settings into nightmarish scenes

@@grimscribe6454 yeah he goes from Lovecraft pastiche to really doing his own thing like Ligotti. Lots of variety to pick from. He chats on Reddit occasionally can't remember if it was r/Lovecraft or r/WeirdLit. Lovely guy.

Three things: 1) It is VERY good to see you uploading more narrated content; 2) excellent author-choice, so well done there; and, 3), just FYI, the esteemed Mr. Campbell does, in fact, spell his first name as 'RAMSEY' :P Thanks for posting, and keep up the good work! :)

(Question: Have you yet done a reading of the Ligotti story 'Gas Station Carnivals'? It seems like you would be ideally suited for narrating that particular story!)
