The Atomizer is not meant for combat, so the damage penalty is nothing, on top of that, slow deploy rates or even slow holster rates aren't that big of a deal. The Wrap Assassin is meant to be used, for long ranged bleeding, like the Cleaver, so a damage penalty on Scout's melee is nothing if it already has another use, like how the Atomizer has a damage penalty that is negligible, since it gives you a triple jump. Every downside on those three weapons aren't really anything

Having a faster deploy speed can, of course, assist in not only being able to excecute this "basher jump" quicker than any atomizer chump. As well as being able to more efficiently draw it during a combative situation. And you can build Uber with it! Uber is just as effective in pubs as it is in comp. Everybody knows this. "But.. scouts melee is impractical! Simply use your scattergun!" May I inform you of the difference between hitboxes and the "collision hull?" As you know, hitscan weapons such as the pistol and scattergun only do damage if a bullet/pellet makes contact with this hitbox. But the hitbox is a mere outline of your opponent requiring intense precision. And not to mention it being full of holes... while the COLLISION HULL is a large box drawn all around an opponent. All projectile weapons, splash damage, AND melee weapons must contact this larger collision hull rather than the hitboxes of an opponent. This proves without doubt that Melee weapons are far easier to land hits with in a pinch, such as running low on ammo. A common occurance for many scouts. Not to mention scouts melee being a surprisingly effective finishing tool. Especially for mad milk users and any other type of non-pistol user. Because i'd argue that reloading your scattergun mid fight is far worse than using your melee for its intended use! Besides, any fellow who has played fish scout will tell you that Scouts Melee is far better than it seems. It swings FAST. essentially letting you kill as fast as any other melee whilst not being punished as much for missing a swing. But not with the basher, of course. It damages you. But then, in theory, if we know that scouts melee is actually superb in combat, then take into account the higher damage potential of the boston basher with the bleed damage. We are able to deduce that the boston basher is the endgame of all melees. If you are good enough, you can do more damage with an already amazing weapon. With virtually no downside, the ability to jump, AND build Uber! The basher is, in conclusion, the greatest weapon, not just for scout, not just in TF2. But in all of gaming. Thank you. I would love to! However sadly I have very little HL experience and I'm not even that good in it in the first place... I chose the comp 6's form because of it's popularity and clear cut rules. I do however appreciate the recommendation!
I want to disagree on the Boston Basher being too good to give up, since you can just use the Atomizer or Wrap Assassin, which do the job better than the Boston Basher, when it comes to dealing damage or using mobility. The only purpose that the Boston Basher really has is building uber, which isn't an excuse for making it Scout's best melee.
