My wife wanted me to sing Amazing Grace at her graveside service this Wednesday afternoon. I've been practicing on the Dailey and Vincent version all week. I hope I do my wife proud. I don't normally sing for anyone but myself, and I'm terrified on public speaking.
Oh of course, I too adore this group, more than I can express here, I work as a jazz drummer and folk guitarist who's first love is bluegrass, AND I'm a singer who like most of us has occasional pitch problems, especially if the club is loud and there's no monitor. It's just that two of these guys, Darrin and Jaime are as good as it gets in terms of harmony singers.
Can that version be heard here on TH-cam? By the way, isn't TH-cam just the most wonderful invention ever to come out of this new fangled computer age we live in? Man!!
@bigdstratton very cool. Joe Dean is great. I think they mixed better with him singing bass than they do now with Christian Davis singing bass. I was in a southern gospel quartet, so I understand what they are doing now and it's fine, but to be honest; I would rather have the group like it was in this video. Bluegrass is all about tight harmony on the vocals, quick tempo on the instruments.
I think its just the acoustics and the recording and i personaly love parker and i have met him in person he is a really good singer i am a lead singer my self and i play piano and violin so i do know about music i have seen this group play in person you have know right to judge them just bye a recording
That would be Parker. He is a very good bluegrass musician singing way up in his range and standing a little close to the mic. Many bluegrass groups sometimes have this "strained harmony". I think it is a side-effect of generations of bluegrass singers getting way up in their range. I am a quartet singer myself so I understand and don't disagree that his pitch wasn't dead on; but I am also a banjo player and a big bluegrass fan. Those two things combine to make me a huge fan of this group.
That Jaime, who I only discovered in the last year, just kills me with that effortless high tessatura he pulls off (though in truth, I prefer Russel Moore in the Doyle recordings, more meat, more substance to his tone in my opinion. Yeah, it doesn't get much better than these kinds of groups.
Amazing grace daily Vincent blue grass gospel music Doyle Lawson quick silver Jamie's daily Vincent corey hensley jamie's daily Vincent darrin vincent Darlene skyles Corey Hensley Jamie's daily Vincent Glenn Dustin bass singer Barry Scott bass singer tim riley bass singer chris west bass singer Aaron McCune bass singer Barry Scott bass singer
If I'd seen this performance live I would have been flat out swooning, but I didn't fail to notice that one guy's pitch, that bass singer also can be pretty off sometimes in other recordings, I wish he'd "relax" his tone sometimes and not try to sound so basso profundo,
Nah, it's parker, and a little bit Joe Dean, just a few notes. Anyway, the studio version is perfect, where they could have a "redo" unlike this in house video. Not a good thing to make judgements here.
I just have to note that pputnam100 was complaining in another post on another song about the bass being "way off" and all over the place, (Christian Davis). I think Putnam has a problem with his/her ears, maybe need to go to the vet and get them flushed out? Just saying...there's nothing to complain about here, these guys are award winning, some 20 awards by now, and they can't be that bad. It may be that some of the recordings are not great, as they are not all professionally done. Luv 'em
I know you're all fans on here but you can't let that get in the way of your ears, of your judgement, the pitch on this tune borders on painful at times; sure, there's gorgeous moments, but I believe it's the heavier gentleman whose pitch is quite errant, I've noticed it on other videos of them as well. I love 'em to death but the pitch here is a bit off the mark, especially towards the end there, ouch

They certainly nail it on the studio version.

when you can sing like this, you can leave your instruments ay home/
How do you like Joe Dean. I was his vocal coach in high school.

MrsKravitz4u1 this is their life and their song to their Savior. They have only given their best. With them it could only be EXCELLENCE.
GREAT JOB!

Davis Can't be off key. He isn't even singing this one. He isn't there.
Tenor needs to step back a little more.
Awesome !
