I remember when Carl came out with Blue suede shoes, my brother and I played it over and over. It was on Sun records. The flip side was Honey Don't. My brother got in a drag out argument with our mother , as he wanted to get a pair of blue suede shoes. I figured I'd get them too, as what ever my older brother got, I got. Mom was firm and yelled "NO, only "fruits " wear them, and not her boys." We pointed out that her brother, our Uncle Shorty had a pair. . . but she wouldn't budge. We lived just outside Chicago back then. The rock and roll radio stations were only on the AM, WJJD and WIND. Little later WLS played rock. Was a great time to be a kid.

Like many people I thought all he did was " blue suede shoes" ,than I bought a 3 CD box set of over60 tracks on .could not believe how brilliant over90% of it was.

Carl is much more rocker and roller than Elvis was. Carl sang his own songs, his guitar has more drive in it than Elvis. Carl or Chuck have more reason to be called King of Rock'n'Roll. 😂😊

Carl’s brother Jay (on second guitar) died tragically at just 28 years of age of a brain tumour, directly as a result of the car crash that derailed Carl’s career. They had been on their way to play the Perry Como show in NYC, which would have rocketed Carl and the band
to stardom. A giant of bluesy rockabilly, Carl’s brilliance lives on.

Elvis and Carl were friends. In a video Carl is praising Elvis for creating a new sound by taking influences from different genres. He as well as others, such as BB King, said Elvis had everything. Elvis was doing his moves going back to the early Blue Moon Boys days with Scotty Moore and Bill Black. Carl never said he influenced Elvis but agreed they had some of the same influences, especially Bill Monroe.
