This just happened to my wife’s 2018 MKZ today. She found your video while I was driving to her. I held the shift linkage on with a long flathead screwdriver so she could put it into reverse. Then I held it again to put into drive just so we could get it home. I will purchase the part today! Saved us money on a tow and a repair. Thank you!
Called one local Ford dealer and they told me I had to purchase the whole shifter cable for $166! Called another dealer and the part was $4.34 PN# KV6Z-7K340-A. The cap, if needed was $4.55 PN# DG9Z-7S004-A. $9.65 total after tax!
Aww, thanks man! You saved me a ton of money! I ordered the bushing from Amazon for $11 and had it on hand but get this, the tow truck driver fixed it on the spot for me, as he had to try to get my vehicle in neutral anyway to tow it. He took it all apart in like 10 mins, popped in the bushing and it was fixed! No need for the tow to the dealership to get it fixed! Literally, when does that happen! He said he’s had to do this so many times! I def tipped him well for swift and helpful services.
I think this is the one, if not, amazon has a good return policy. Let me know. BushingFix TB1Kit - Automatic Transmission Shift Cable Bushing Repair Kit, Replacement Shifter Cable Bushing, Quality Transmission Repair Kit, Compatible with Chevrolet, Jeep, Ford and Other Brands a.co/d/1ihLcVL
Many thanks my friend! Our 2015 MKC left my wife stranded because of this issue. I was able to hold the plastic piece down while she shifted into drive to get the car home. Next day got the grommet (for free from the Lincoln dealer) and 5 minutes later all's good! More time tearing down to get to it than anything else. Your video saved my a$$! Thank you!!
The best 3:53 minutes of my life 2017 Mkz same issue as everyone else purchased Bushing off amazon came the next day was able to use this video and fixed within 15 minutes thanks so much for this video you are a life saver 😅
Wow thanks for posting this! Same EXACT THING just happened to my 2013 Lincoln MKZ! But having problems trying to find the bushing! But glad to know it is an easy cheap fix!
Happened to our 2017 MKC last summer. Got back in car and would not shift. I left the car in the parking lot overnight and got a ride home. The Ford dealer told me what the problem probably was. Ended up fixing it in the parking lot and drove home the next day. Car had around 70,000 miles on it. I ended up getting a spare bushing and put it in those storage compartments near the spare tire. How common is this and what mileage/age is this item failing?
Did you fix it...This happened to me yesterday.. I guess I have to take it to a dealer because I can't take all of that stuff off like he did in the video
Too bad there's nothing in the video about the pre- and post- stuff that needs doing, like removing the "air box" and some tubing, etc. What tools are needed? what exactly did he do?? And at the end he just puts the cover (whatever it is) back on. Frustrating :(

Where did you order the bushing from?
I got it off of Amazon.

Okay, thanks
Hi- any idea of where you can find this? Links not working
It is the exact same issue im experience rn, when I get home ill look under the hood hopefully is just that little bushing
Where did you get it? Lincoln is telling me I have to buy the whole cable. It's just the bushing. I pushed the old one back on and works. For now
Amazon

I was told the same thing and I was quoted a price of $455 for the job. So how do know if I need to replace the cable and not just the bushing?
@Magpie18152 did you get it fixed at a dealer..I am having the same problem right now..
Hey that link for the bushing isn't working. Any chance you can send a new one?
This video is an absolute lifesaver! Is it possible to buy the bushing at an auto parts store?
Can you please resend the link for the link bcos the previous amazon link was deleted

I guess keeping the compartment clean is out of the question. Also not much depth in taking anything apart.
