the r/MonsterHunterMeta guide was updated midway through me making this vid so i had to redo some stuff, and ended up changing the script of later parts too however, since then i haven't seen any improvements to the css sets in the guide... since i suck at talking this is why the volume/cadence of my mumbling gets weird at times also i take back agreeing that axe hopper is weaker. there are some matchups where it has the potential to be stronger than cpp, it's just harder
Hello, author of the guide here. A few things that weren't mentioned. I prefaced the og comp post with 'please mention any errors' and i have been updating the comp whenever i was notified. This isnt the first version and it wont be the last. Page 14: guard/up are like dials and can be adjusted to block the matchup. Reasoning: No reason to run guard/up or embolden at max power against everything. Run as needed. Guard chart needs reviewing but values are pulled from kiranico and then used algebra to find optimal guard values. Page 38: hard resistances are run as needed as well. Reason: If you can reliably confirm a better combo using rapid morph, embolden or element exploit, then use those. Hard resistances +5 element is a consistent boost that applies to all hitzones vs element exploit's 20+ hitzones. Mathwise its roughly the same value ~6-7 element on those hitzones. With the shotgun spread, you cant always guarantee 20+ hitzones, so hard resist buff is the more reasonable skill to recommend, but if you can land your element exploit hitzones, then run it instead. Decorations are not set in stone. Augments and armor pieces are IF it has an armor locked skill. I mention if a piece is unoptimized on relevant sets. Base to tu 3 assumes you run any level 2 augment, so the decoration/set list are more or less naked of them.
Hi Knight, for the most part I agree that "dial" skills are really up to the user. I will add my perspective here as the horn set builder and argue that a better option may be to fit the skills and suggest skills to add when the excess is dropped, rather than the other way around. While doing this for horn is nowhere near as complex as it is on Charge Blade due to these flex skills affecting playability in unquantifiable ways, many players are okay with "add more attack boost" because it's very simple, rather than "add guard situationally". Your run of the mill player will understand that damage goes up when the number in the UI increases. More complex things like understanding the benefits of lower knockback levels, ele exploit, and rapid morph are really relatively "high level" understanding. Average players won't notice the benefits until they live without them, which is why I usually include them by default and add caveats for removal instead. I hope this was some food for thought, and let me know what you think - I'd like to pick your brain on the matter!
@@upgreid definitely. The dial guard/up comment is the watered down version of the reasoning but the guard section explains why you run guard at certain levels. Its basically to guarantee your saed and ready stance chops against a given monster. Also guard up is to ensure you dont cart against guardable moves. For say normal great izuchi, you dont get any value out of guard up. Guard after (i believe) 3 levels offers no additional benefit either, so for that matchup, cut down 2 levels of guard and 3 guard up. If you are fighting afflicted, dial guard up to 3 cuz it starts to cart/stun into cart around the 250+ AR range with the qurio explosion.
@@juzzi the qurio and risen explosions are no joke. The 'i can tank that' mentality gets flung out the window when you lose like 80%, of your health or just cart without guard up investment.

I'm glad this video exists, the weapon I'm best with since I started playing monster hunter games in 4U has been CB. I am not a meta player and never intend to be, I will be axe hopping every hunt until the next game comes out and I love my cozy sets that make life easier at the expense of a bit of damage. Thanks for the sets. Im honestly struggling to play MHR cause I have so much catching up to do. It never hit me like MHW did so Im terribly behind on MR. The Risen monster MR requirements are kinda nuts tbh so much appreciated for these reachable sets.
This video is quite interesting for me, because I'm in the process of fighting my first Risen Elder Dragon. (Essentially Middle Late Game) and I'm quite perplexed upon what to actually create, Given that I have no luck with charms, augments and decorations.

So in the SAED derestrife builds you linked, all of them have frostcraft 3, does that mean that the optimal play should be sheating as often as possible to guardpoint into saed or just from time to time?
you can just play normally but over time as you get used to certain monsters you'll be able to identify opportunities where you can sheathe to regen frostcraft you can watch this run for an example on how to utilise frostcraft th-cam.com/video/pI1JoAoiEKs/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xPsg95DPTumYpo99
I thought Elemental SAED is the easiest set to build out there, literally just jam as much element as possible which element increasing skills are better? just check the element value displayed on the status screen (except for element exploit) and all this time I didn't realize CPP increases phial damage what the hell
Heya Juzzi Question, how big is the gap between raw and elemental CSS charge blade? I know elemental is the hard winner for CPP saed builds but im curious for CSS
@@V2ULTRAKill i don't have any maths or exact numbers but in general i'd assume the gap is over 20% if you use the air dash phial burst on ele sets, they hit very hard, whilst impact phial bursts do barely anything - on matchups where you can use this phial burst a lot, the gap widens significantly
@@juzzi Thank you for asking, I appreciate that. I watched the video again and it's not a specific part, but when you go through the papers, at some point my mind just hears the music. If there had happened to be a version without music, I would have preferred it because it would have been easier for me to concentrate. But I don't want to stress you out either. I just have to watch it several times and it'll be fine. Thank you for your efforts. It is not a given to explain a part of a video game so explicitly that others can understand the unclear things in the game.
yea background music is supposed to be background, except half the times its louder than his actual voice. I lost counts of the times i had to go back and listen again, and in some specific moments, due to the goddam trumpets of the persona music, i had to turn on the subtitles, who didnt help either. Thanks for the long explanation
Hello, legit question: i thought CSS was better with a high raw+impact charge blade. Why do you recommend some ele CBS on the CSS section in the guide on the description? Thanks for the video, great explaining!
picked up CB a week ago. i'm trying out timmy's SAED spam set, but the combination of strife + dereliction is fucking me up bad even with immunizer + gourmet fish. i feel like part of this is me being unable to overcome bloodlust consistently in multiplayer. i don't know if it's because i'm playing too conservatively and not getting enough SAEDs off, or if it's just harder to maintain aggro and therefore land successful CPPs.
If you get to gl it’ll be funny if protective polish doesn’t get a tier up given how much full burst, wyvernfire and bullet barrage chunk over time. Then again when you reach heaven-sent every other sharpness management skill is thrown out the window.
I mostly used protective when going through my bullet barrage spam phase after getting the Malzeno gl, as razor sharp would not cut it and I was yet to fight Amatsu.
I’ve been having a hard time find a general build that is not elemental focused so I can just make one charge blade and leave any advice on where to look I am 102 Mr so no access to risen but I do have the p. Mal set
Im very late to this but i just started playing rise and got to master rank 2. He says inpact isnt viable does thst mean ill have to maintain multiple weapons and learn which one to use for each hunt? Sounds like a bit of a chore.
There are very few ppl touching css sets and I get it cause saed usually outperforms but for solo and possibly without palamutes (ta rules for some reason), are impact element css efficient or do they always lose to element phial css? The raw dmg output would be lower but stuns *may* give better dps in shorter runs. Which mus do you think they could work?
if you can script a run involving kos then it'll be faster in shorter runs in prolonged hunts like special investigation the damage differential becomes more significant than the kos
@@locoghouli might try do some special astalos/scorned with impact css i have 5'23 astalos with ele saed, aiming for a 6'4X or 6'5X on scorned with ele saed for css though it'll probably be in the 7s...
@@juzzi I remember before burning out from SB trying to run Anjanath and so, Mizutzune CB was the one I considered over Fish CB. Mind you this was around TU3 so no DC or Blood Awakening at that time. I wonder if I just go ele and stagger trip the legs I won't need impact
Yo thanks for this and for the link in the description. Looking over it, intending to make the BA SAED builds, does SAED Charge Blade bother at all with raw/status builds for less element advantageous matchups? This is probably a redundant question as the document provided doesn't outline any.
Now, I'm no set builder nor speed runner and I've never once touched CB outside of MH 4 I believe? I'm a GS main at heart and dabble in most others except bowguns. I'm genuinely curious to see how GS positioning translates into CB positioning. it probably won't go over well for at least 5-10 hunts before it clicks in my brain.
timmy doc is a great read from start to end. Worth reading and I had 0 problems making the sets. (RNG is a bitch buy feasible and the end result is worth it).
the most effective tactic is beating the hunt consistently so slot in some comfort if need be. Otherwise everyone'd be running heroics tto get fast times.. i still dont like berserk my favorite monster has my most hated skill.
Will we analyse every meta set compilation like this? Probably only the ones where you are knowladgeable. Oh and maybe lower the music just a small amount. Very small amount
i have a question. Majority of your build in the description don't use guard. is it not require? or i should focus on those skill over max guard and embolden? some build even use adrenaline rush. We only use ready stance as repositioning tool?
the css sets use embolden instead of guard because it lets you as well as block it's not reliable in multiplayer so you can swap it out for guard 3 adrenaline rush is very good for raw sets, you can activate both adrenaline rush, status trigger and offensive guard for a massive boost to raw.
I'm replaying through rise again but this time I'm really trying to make impact CB work even though it's kind of a fool's errand. I'm just trying to make it not too awful
is it just a silent rule that every meta guide maker assumes multiplayer? because i dont see anyone recommending Embolden to replace Guard 3/5 and this assumption also wouldnt make sense cuz they are recommending DH5 sets, and DH in multiplayer is massive pepega. Is Embolden being slept on or is there something about Embolden I am unaware of?

i don't think gunlance is particularly complex but i lack expertise in that weapon so i don't think i'm qualified to review the guides without an actual gunlance player supporting me
Ngl it's so cringe hearing people say "Charge blade is so complicated to learn" no it isn't lmao. You just press more buttons and half the charge blade users just spam saed. Guard points can be tricky but it ain't even that complicated
Does meta even matter in games like this? I mean, even if you're using a weapon that makes barely a dent in a monster, so long as you know how to avoid getting killed and just keep whacking the thing, eventually it'll go down, right?

It does not look nice on you and it gives me shit-starter vibes from you… especially when those content creators you named had nothing against you and your content. I expected you will have the decency to be respectful to fellow creators but that’s just my take. It was not necessary and all you needed was for your viewers to try your content and see for themselves. Lastly, I do apologize for saying something negative. Know that it was difficult for me to type this long a** comment but I’m a direct person and after that debacle that I had on discord with other people, that you had no part of, and you instigating it after I apologized to the other party, I had to just point out a flaw which is your inability to stay in your lane
It had to be said. (Been holding the same thoughts about the trash talking before the discord fiasco, discord just convinced me to say it) I apologize. Please continue with being problematic
yes it is because they pretend to know how to build sets when they don't really understand people pretending to have expertise and spreading misinformation is harmful
@@juzzi The way I see it, it's impossible to be correct anyway and the viewer also needs the same charm or qurios. And imagine believing the clickbait "BEST X weapon buildzzz" when all of them are different, maybe I'm too old these days but if little timmy falls for it, it's just a life lesson about the internet. Just use these as templates for potential good skills and fit in whatever you think is better and if you are that concious about your 2% damage from 1 skill, go look at athena's ass or whichever else program/site that has an updated set builder. Or just use cheat engine like apparently the devs envisioned. Unlucky nintendo users.
As a fan of the old and new Monster Hunter games this video was a terrible idea. This is exactly why Japanese players have a hard stance on not talking about other people's armor sets. It's rude and misses the point of the game. I had a Earplugs longsword build because I hated getting roared out of a Helm Breaker. My friends then made fun of me because I had Earplugs on Longsword when in their opinion I should parry every single roar. So in their eyes it was a worthless set that made no sense. Even though I found it to be most comfortable Longsword experience I've ever had. When armor and skills are designed this way you really can't just say what's good and what's bad. Its just ultimately preference not based on real fact. Just what you think is "correct". This is the definition of "splitting hairs".
ah yes more myths about the japanese like it or not some skills are just objectively worse than others majority of points raised in this video aren't about comfort e.g. razor sharp is just straight up worse than master's touch, attack boost is useless on element SAED, not having guard is detrimental to both damage and comfort
For the dragon heart /conversion build Theress no need for dragon attack considering the whole point of the build is to get your damage from dragon conversion and if the weapon is already maxed out for slots and element then it has over 100 dragon attack at base. So it isnt nesseray

So in the SAED derestrife builds you linked, all of them have frostcraft 3, does that mean that the optimal play should be sheating as often as possible to guardpoint into saed or just from time to time?
you can just play normally
but over time as you get used to certain monsters you'll be able to identify opportunities where you can sheathe to regen frostcraft
you can watch this run for an example on how to utilise frostcraft

I thought Elemental SAED is the easiest set to build out there, literally just jam as much element as possible
which element increasing skills are better? just check the element value displayed on the status screen (except for element exploit)
and all this time I didn't realize CPP increases phial damage what the hell
you mean counter morph yeah
As a cb who tried to optimize damage on paper but not in practice, thank you
Heya Juzzi
Question, how big is the gap between raw and elemental CSS charge blade?
I know elemental is the hard winner for CPP saed builds but im curious for CSS
@@V2ULTRAKill i don't have any maths or exact numbers but in general i'd assume the gap is over 20%
if you use the air dash phial burst on ele sets, they hit very hard, whilst impact phial bursts do barely anything - on matchups where you can use this phial burst a lot, the gap widens significantly
That idevaste budget set is uh.... interesting.
I've changed my mind, the other sets after are FAR more interesting.
juzzi going scorched earth
As a charge blade user.
Ima ignore everything and just go hellfire cloak, punishing draw, burst, powder mantle, wind mantle, and frost craft.

punishing draw
@@juzzi yeah when u charge up the blade u place it into the shield. The shield that literally acts as ur sheath.
is there a video version without the music? music is on some partay louder than you and make it hard to follow
which section do you need clarification on
@@juzzi Thank you for asking, I appreciate that. I watched the video again and it's not a specific part, but when you go through the papers, at some point my mind just hears the music. Maybe a little hard to understand what I mean. I noticed it after 6 minutes.
Thanks for the video, great explaining!
css is stronger with element on applicable matchups
Make this a series juzzi!!!!🤣🤣🤣
i hope there aren't enough bad guides to actually make a series
@@juzzi I bet that there are more than enough bad guides to make a series 🤣🤣
picked up CB a week ago. i'm trying out timmy's SAED spam set, but the combination of strife + dereliction is fucking me up bad even with immunizer + gourmet fish. i feel like part of this is me being unable to overcome bloodlust consistently in multiplayer. i don't know if it's because i'm playing too conservatively and not getting enough SAEDs off, or if it's just harder to maintain aggro and therefore land successful CPPs.
idk if immuniser and gourmet fish even helps with dereliction
use the blood awakening version, that's more comfy
If you get to gl it’ll be funny if protective polish doesn’t get a tier up given how much full burst, wyvernfire and bullet barrage chunk over time. Then again when you reach heaven-sent every other sharpness management skill is thrown out the window.
not gonna cover gl but no way pro polish is good, as you said heaven sent just crushes it particularly with redirection
Mal set
just use a raw css build then
So does rise have even nuttier damage output than world? Because the damage on that saed showed early on was enough to 1 shot nergigante

There are very few ppl touching css sets and I get it cause saed usually outperforms but for solo and possibly without palamutes (ta rules for some reason), are impact element css efficient or do they always lose to element phial css? The raw dmg output would be lower but stuns *may* give better dps in shorter runs. Which mus do you think they could work?
if you can script a run involving kos then it'll be faster in shorter runs
in prolonged hunts like special investigation the damage differential becomes more significant than the kos

Looking over it, intending to make the BA SAED builds, does SAED Charge Blade bother at all with raw/status builds for less element advantageous matchups?
This is probably a redundant question as the document provided doesn't outline any.
impact saed is terrible, even on something like astalos i use element
@@juzzi You love to see it, that saves me gacha rolling another set. Thanks for the insight.
Hi! do you have mid-mr build for charge blade? I wanna know a better build to fully progress to Mr
what mr is mid mr
the most effective tactic is beating the hunt consistently so slot in some comfort if need be. Otherwise everyone'd be running heroics tto get fast times.. i still dont like berserk my favorite monster has my most hated skill.
as i said (i think i said?) in here the best comfort for cb is guard 5 and/or embolden

We only use ready stance as repositioning tool?
the css sets use embolden instead of guard because it lets you as well as block
it's not reliable in multiplayer so you can swap it out for guard 3
adrenaline rush is very good for raw sets, you can activate both adrenaline rush, status trigger and offensive guard for a massive boost to raw.
3 guard is enough for all the monster?
@@metalxempress enough for most attacks
Thank you for doing these.
If only a dragon conversion 3/frostcraft 2 charm was obtainable without modding. Best charm for Charge Blade it seems.

because i dont see anyone recommending Embolden to replace Guard 3/5
and this assumption also wouldnt make sense cuz they are recommending DH5 sets, and DH in multiplayer is massive pepega.

Juzzi on demon time, I’m all for it time to make some reddit dorks cry.
Informative! 👍 I wouldn’t take that away from you. In fact I took your advice and followed the build you dm’d on discord for switch axe and I’m using the build.. know that I’m very happy with it so thanks for that amazing guide. 👍
However, I’m not really a fan of the calling out other creators and their builds for being “trash”.
Know that it was difficult for me to type this long a** comment but I’m a direct person and after that debacle that I had on discord with other people, that you had no part of, and you instigating it after I apologized to the other party, I had to just point out a flaw which is your inability to stay in your lane
bro tells someone "don't kill yourself" in discord then comes here of all places to drop an essay
It had to be said. (Been holding the same thoughts about the trash talking before the discord fiasco, discord just convinced me to say it) I apologize. Please continue with being problematic
Not anyone's fault when the game introduced 60 new damage skills that you need to stack like a diablo character.
yes it is because they pretend to know how to build sets when they don't really understand
people pretending to have expertise and spreading misinformation is harmful

And imagine believing the clickbait "BEST X weapon buildzzz" when all of them are different, maybe I'm too old these days but if little timmy falls for it, it's just a life lesson about the internet.
Just use these as templates for potential good skills and fit in whatever you think is better and if you are that concious about your 2% damage from 1 skill, go look at athena's ass or whichever else program/site that has an updated set builder.

This is the definition of "splitting hairs".
ah yes more myths about the japanese
like it or not some skills are just objectively worse than others
majority of points raised in this video aren't about comfort e.g. razor sharp is just straight up worse than master's touch, attack boost is useless on element SAED, not having guard is detrimental to both damage and comfort
For the dragon heart /conversion build
Theress no need for dragon attack considering the whole point of the build is to get your damage from dragon conversion and if the weapon is already maxed out for slots and element then it has over 100 dragon attack at base. So it isnt nesseray
yeah uhh why don't you try that out in game
test dragon attack 0 and dragon attack 5
