Great stuff! Keep them coming NorthStar. It's so hard to make reservations when you don't know what you are going to get. These videos help all of us to make informed choices. So thank you!
@@northstarangling2953 I was wondering why it took me so long to see this video as I thought I had already subscribed. That is now rectified. Your river videos are getting me thinking catfish!
I wish I would’ve saw this sooner, never been to LOTW ever, and goin out to Zippler next week, I don’t really like their holes are under the bunks like that, wish it would’ve been like JR’s sleepers at Red Lake …. Nice and roomy with 6 holes/4 man sleepers ..
Couple things: Thanks for the great review, I wish you had mentioned the price:value comparison. I've been to Zipple twice, and Adrians once with my wheel house. I do like the igloo bar that Zipple usually has a few miles out on the ice (but not this year due to covid)...this is a pretty cool experience. Adrians got me much further, miles further out on the ice than Zipple, but I did catch fish at Zipple last week and not a bite last year at Adrians. Zipple does a pretty good job getting you plowed out spots for your wheel house. I'll probably go back to Zipple mainly because of the igloo bar next year.....but of course I'm bringing my wheel house, otherwise you've persuaded me that Arnesons's is the place to go! Thanks again.
Thanks - sorry, I spaced mentioning the prices. I've gone back and put them in the description at least. I would have definitely have liked to check out the Zippel Igloo bar. Thanks for watching - good luck up there!
Arnesons does not have a road. If you want to bring your Ice Castle, not Arnesons. Arnesons has a pounded down trail from their bombardier running back and forth. Not applicable for your own house. FYI.
You should check out and do a review of dales setup I really enjoyed how he runs his business and the sleepers are nice and spacious and the outhouse comes with a heater in it so that’s a nice touch
Dale's does not have a public road. You can use their access to get to and around twin islands. So does Long Point resort. Long Point has a public plowed road. FYI.
At the time when I used to go years ago Zippo was by far the cheapest And artisans was the most expensive. Years ago babblers by artisans plowed roads which got you out to the reefs and gull rock By far between artisans and longpoint has the most structure Good place to learn.
To be fair you really should do a review of staying in a log cabin at Zippel vs Arneson's cabin's!?! I've personally been fishing LOTW for 25 years and anyone knows it's never been known for its night bite. Seems like a No Brainier sitting in a hot tub back in the cabin after dark with stainless steel appliances and a pillow top bed but maybe that's just me!?! It sucks pooping in a bucket any which way you draw it up 😜
I definitely should and I’d love to! I’ve always been attracted to the novelty of sleeping on the ice, but no doubt the cabins would be way more comfy :)
You are 100% correct, not a night bite, go back to land and be comfortable, unless you like sleeping on a mattress they found on the side of the road on garbage day
Went to Sweets two weeks ago and they put us on the fish, sleeper house was big but owner not all there, drunk all the time!! Don’t remember talking to you the next day
I use Adrian’s for their road. I bring my own ice castle up and the roads are wide. I find a spot that’s been fished by someone else and never had an issue. Another one I have tried for sleeper houses is Jeff’s Ico’ miniums. They have some 25-30 foot sleeper houses with lots of room and better prices. And bathrooms are inside your house
I could kick myself for not mentioning the price - Zippel is actually $100 more because of the two houses. Zippel was $385 for 3 nights/Arnesen’s $285.
Thanks for the preview of both places! I really was curious what's the best place to go over there. Now I know who's going to be hiking their prices after this gets 100k views, too. Ha, ha.
I think the price comparison isn't quite apples to apples. Zippel offers a shallow and deep water package (two different houses during the day), which appears that you did. That package is more expensive than the single house. Arneson's doesn't offer (from what I can see) of the shallow/deep water package. Looking at their websites, for a 3 night 2 day single house sleeper is $250 at Zippel and $255 at Arneson's for midweek rates. For the shallow/deep package, it is $385 at Zippel. People just have to ask themselves if the two houses are worth the extra $100.
That definitely is the biggest difference between the two and was the main reason we came to Zippel this year. For us, it was worth it to try and , like we said in the video, it is cool to have a second location and be able to drive back and forth between them at will. I’m sure that most times, people catch way more than we did. I’ve been hearing such slow reports coming off LOTW all season , so I’m sure we just hit it at a bad time. Good luck out there!
Have my own wheelhouse now and I've never been to Arnesens. Been out of Adrian's road and Zipple Bay numerous times. Have had great and bad days fishing out of both. As a wheelhouse owner if I'm choosing roads I'd go Zipple as they are much more friendly towards the public fish house community and as you saw, maintain a much higher quality road than Adrian's. However, an outfitter I've come to respect greatly (we used to rent from him on Upper Red before I purchased my house), uses Adrian's road. You really should check out Justin's operation Up North Rentals. They move from UR to LOTW in late Jan, and move their rentals at least once a week following fish. The fishing side of your review seems kinda irrelevant because it's fishing not catching, the next week Zipple could have been on fire. But all that said I agree with you that for the price Arnesens is a better deal, they can be more spread out since they do not maintain a public road. But packed closer together in 30fow at Zipple we've had some of best numbers/quality fish days too.
Yeah, we were hearing slow reports from all over LOTW that week. Could have easily been on fire the week before or after. We might be looking to check out a new place next year and will look kind Justin’s. Having your own house must be so nice :) Have a great day!
I have tried them all over the years. Here's a thought, try the Sportsmans resort, they have a resort on Oak island and the fishing up there is better. Less traffic. I usually do my trips up there on my snowmobile with my Otter sled.👍
Went to Arnesons a number of years ago with a group of 22 over New Years, came in for supper and they had run out of everything. No milk no steaks no everything. No refund no price adjustment, never going back.
I've been to both after dark your fishing more for pout so I would stay in the comfort of a cabin and showers! Zippel has great log cabins much nicer than Arnesens cabins in my opinion Plus Arnesens moved us out of a cabin I had reserved for months a head of time for a bigger group never went back since they did that!
I was always attracted to the novelty of sleeping on the ice, but now that I’ve experienced the night “bite” a few times, I might be ready for the cabins :)

I am a huge fan of Arnesen’s! My favorite thing is the separation of the houses at Arnesen’s and we always catch fish! They have a great set up.
Can’t wait to get back up there!
Lake of the woods Sleepers out of Bugsys on Bostic is Second to none! Nate and the boys are outstanding and they're shacks are beautiful!!!!!!!
Sounds awesome - I need to get back up there :)
You should check out Dale's Resort out by Warroad. Their sleeper houses are decked out with all furnishings, pots, dishes, tv, everything.
That would be great and I’ve always heard such good things about them.
My GF booked us a trip to Arneson's in Feb. Hell of a valentine's weekend!!
A lucky man indeed :)

Awesome, thanks much - I did the same :) Yeah, I like ice fishing and all, but there’s nothing like big cats from the river!
We did the same thing arnesons first and zipple second. I agree with your assessment.

We're headed to Arnesen's in a couple of weeks for our first trip to LOTW. Looks like we made the right choice, thanks for the info.

arnsens has a hot tub ?
I’ve caught plenty at night, mostly slot fish.
Went to Sweets two weeks ago and they put us on the fish, sleeper house was big but owner not all there, drunk all the time!! Don’t remember talking to you the next day
Heck, big sleeper house on fish? He can be as drunk as he wants if I'm on fish. Maybe he'd forget to charge me :)
I use Adrian’s for their road. I bring my own ice castle up and the roads are wide. I find a spot that’s been fished by someone else and never had an issue.

great review. Arnesen's definitely looks a lot nicer. 👍👍
Thanks bud - good luck out there!
Our Ice Castle crew will be up Thursday at least 4 trailers deep. See you tomorrow!
If you are planning on fishing out of your ice castles, you won't be fishing at Arnesons.
They don't have a plowed road.

Ever stay at dale's?
Haven’t made it to that one yet - I’ve heard good things about it :)
Me too I think its going to be my first visit to the lake. Next year though
There’s so many I want to try: Dales, Border View, Sportsman’s etc...it’s tough when you can only get up there once a year :)
Dales the the way to go. Amazing
what they provide.
