Amen, I am not a religious man but when I heard this on a whim on my system (vinyl) the other night, I was on the verge of tears yelling at my stereo "unbelievable!" Praise the Lord!
He breaths and smiles...his playing reflects it. I'm striving to incorporate some of those aspects of his playing into mine. Can't get over how great this video is.
I wish Julian had a long life ahead of him , plz dont let anything happen to him I wanna listen to his music all my life long. He is really nice guy and AMAZING musician.
I understand technique after playing for 56 years and I live in Santa Rosa where Julian is from but watching him play so effortlessly, gracefully, moving the song along, I'm starting to think he may have come from another planet or not completely human. Go kid!
The most impressive thing about this video isn’t Julian’s phenomenal playing, it’s how well that guitar took that ass whippin. Responded ridiculously well to all the dynamics.
I love that finger slap at 1:19. I had to watch it a few times to notice that he transitions the pick to his thumb and ring finger so he can slap with his pointer finger, then transitions back so quickly and smoothly. Like a magic trick, super smooth.
My favorite player, playing one of my favorite songs, playing one of my favorite guitars: it doesn't get much better. Thanks for the video Collings Guitars!!
Back to the Future then? Have we realized what has been lost, because this guitar, plus the great song and playing of Julian simply brings us back to where we should have been all along?
Julian is truly great, I’ve heard him on so many recordings and love his writing and improving. He came out to a show I was playing at in NYC - man did I ever get nervous when I saw him sitting there. I played like a lifeless robot but managed to get through the show. After the show, the trio all went out for a bite with Julian. What a sweet guy. One more thing... that Collings sounds f#%king amazing in Julian’s hands.
Yes! Over a year ago I watched that and got obsessed with this song. This version in particular. Then I learned it and it’s always my go to when I pick up a guitar
Guthrie govan did that for me about 10 years ago. Gave up on being the best ever that day. Good to see every generation has its heros that make us quit foolish notions
Whilst I appreciate the humour and realise it’s meant jovially, I’m a strong advocate of being happy with what you can do. Who cares if you can’t play as beautifully as this? If you can sit, play and bring joy to yourself and others around you then I’d say you can play just fine. Don’t always compare yourself to the pros! Happy playing
great recording technique, and the superb touch of Julian: WHAT A SOUND!!! There are many videos on the Tube where the same Traditional guitar sounds completely dull and clattering.
Hmm... I'd agree that Collings guitars are among the very best acoustic flattop guitars, but... BUT, there are some other amazing flattops. Ever play a Bourgeois OM, one of those with a torrefied top? A Santa Cruz Tony Rice model, or one of their small-bodied guitars? A Martin OM-45 is awfully sweet, as are some high-end Taylor guitars. And when it's all said and done, "best" is entirely subjective -- at least that's my opinion.
Don´t think so. It's perhaps the equivalent of giving the best marathonist a pair of sandals and ask him/her to run a marathon. He might be able to, but he won't be at his best. So a good pair of shoes do help.
After listening to this about 1000 times (at least) I finally managed to work out most of the tune, thank you Julian & Collings Guitars for the video and inspiration. My Attempt - th-cam.com/video/R6Udz4vGQnQ/w-d-xo.html
Amazing that I can buy this guitar and get that exact same sound. I'll sound just like that. That's what's holding me back is I don't have this specific guitar, otherwise I'd play just like this.
I consider myself lucky to live in a world where both Collings guitars and Julian Lage coexist.
Amen, I am not a religious man but when I heard this on a whim on my system (vinyl) the other night, I was on the verge of tears yelling at my stereo "unbelievable!" Praise the Lord!
Seen Julian two nights ago, still buzzing from it!!! What a privilege.
No one plays like Julian! His touch, style, eccentricities… unmatched
Lil Wayne, though...
@@KrwiomoczBogurodzicy 😂😂 yeah you have a point there. I thought we we all understood Weezy is the exception

That one moment from 1:18 - 1:20 is absolutely perfect
It's so rare to get locked in in someone's music from the first couple of notes. I'm so glad I found his music
His brain is not even thinking as his fingers slide across the fret board with grace and flow. And the music composition is Wow!
He’s definitely thinking. What you are seeing is that there is no delay, not a tiny fraction of delay, between his expressive thoughts and his hands
This guy makes me smile every time
Sounds ridiculously great, and Julian rules as always.
No words... Again and again...
what a player....he's like a time machine.
This has the same awesome, wholesome energy as You've Got A Friend In Me. I love it so much.
Love hearing Frank and Charlie huff glue to Dennis playing a beautiful guitar song.
Professional use of dynamics. A lot to learn hearing and watching Julian play.
I've never seen Abraham Lincoln play the guitar so beautifully.
Yeah. all the other videos i've seen of old Abe playing guitar were a bit ugly.
I've never seen Joe Goldberg play guitar so beautifully.
Shaved his beard, too! I, for one, like the new look.
Haha
Mozart in our time

St. Rose is the best thing ever.
The most impressive thing about this video isn’t Julian’s phenomenal playing, it’s how well that guitar took that ass whippin. Responded ridiculously well to all the dynamics.
it better take a few rounds with Mike Tyson for that price tag
Bro he made nothing but sweet passionate love to that guitar

Actually he missed the harmonic there, but still: Julian is a blessing!
Every Julian Lage video I watch is the best guitar playing I've ever seen
See him live, actually life changing
@@JeremyAndersonBoise Gonna see him next week in Halifax!!!
So that tells me you don’t get out much. Tommy Emmanuel hello?
@@bestself2438 Tommy's great, no doubt. I've had the pleasure of seeing both Julian and Tommy and both are astounding.
Felt like the melody was stuck in my head before i heard it, even hummed it along hahha! Amazing as always.
Collings couldn't have found a better performer to present this guitar. Awesome playing, awesome guitar. Thanks a lot!
the freedom! what a pleasure to watch.
The most beautiful 3 minutes since ages 🙏
Really love that playful mood ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Great sound, What an amazing player. Such dynamics, and groove.
Learned this song over a year ago and it’s still the first thing I play when I pick up a guitar
Man your playing has made me smile and I instantly fell in love with the collings... Thanks man
This guy !!! Julian Lage in purely fantastic, especially on Collings guitar. It just seems to be the perfect match to me !

This guy is a master. Love his duets with Nels Cline.

he's the man. so perfect in every way
Couldn't agree more.
Idk, his arrogance is offputting.

@@deliriumcb5959 your joking right?
This is the exact guitar I have been dreaming of. Thankyou for making the guitar , and having Julian demo it.
what a sound and what an exceptional recording technique!
Julian is the whole package, the best you could ever ask for
Gorgeous song
I have tons of vintage guitars, but my go-to is still my mid-90s OM2H. Wonderful guitar.
I have no words for this.
Yes indeed....thank Collings and other post modern guitar makers for creating these wonderful tonal masterpieces.....WOW!!!
So freaking smooth!
This guy is so freakin brilliant ! His bluesy folky side is the one i prefer. So fresh!
This is such a nice song! Love listening to it :D I like his passion while playing too.
Julian Lage is incredible, and that Collings is awesome!

It definitely did
i ceased to listen other guitarist after I discovered Julian Lage...he always plays with so much grace
I know right!
Blake mills too
Why? He's not the be all end all. I think you're missing out.

Thanks Julian, you make me smile.
it took me a couple months, but i finally learn this piece. God bless. Thank you Julian
Joe Bouwman where did you learn this from?
Geralt of Rivia I just listened to it and watched him play a lot. Slow the video down on TH-cam and learn that way. It helps a lot
Paul David’s

Such a masterpiece
love so much this music

No better artist to demonstrate how an excellent guitar should sound ... Collings made the very wise choice!
Every guitar player should watch this video from time to time....to remind themselves that they cannot, in fact, play guitar.
lol

He doesn’t play the guitar; the guitar is a vessel for his existence. ❤
Super performance, as per usual. Been waiting for this playthrough for awhile
Pure grace.
how could the ending be cut off just like that!
and you know it was gonna be a sweet little wind-up too!
I'm betting he made a mistake and they just decided to edit it down.
But, man, this is one of my favorite things on youtube in this day and age.
It's just like on the record.

There is some damn smooth and tasty playing! Great sounding guitar firmly in the traditional tone camp. Great stuff...
Great guitar, great musician. :)

Little light on the baseline. Beautiful guitar.

You know it's gonna be good when Abraham Lincoln starts playing Jazz on a Collings OM
Boy oh boy !!
Still amazed, Julian is a freaking monster

You can give Julian a $5 guitar and he'd make it sound great. Regardless though, Collings guitars are the best in the world. No doubt about it.
Hmm... I'd agree that Collings guitars are among the very best acoustic flattop guitars, but... BUT, there are some other amazing flattops. we call Collings guitars 'Lawyer Wood.' Players can't afford 'em.
