There is no way, they will announce macOS for iPads in WWDC 2024. They would never release Final Cut Pro 2 for iPadOS, when you can get full Final Cut Pro just a month later. What I can imagine, is that they are developing a "macOS like interface". Which still will be iPadOS, but which a better filesystem, better mouse and window manager.
And why would they? You can get a keyboard with the iPad and then if you put macOS on it then why does the MacBook Product line need to exist?
I honestly wish they'd allow the iPad to just dual boot both iPadOS AND macOS! iPadOS is a great system for general content consumption, but as soon as you need to do serious professional work, MacOS is just objectively better. The iPad hardware is capable of running both flawlessly, so IDK why they wouldn't just make it run both?

Mac would exist for those that simply prefer its form factor. But eventually Apple is gonna have to bite the bullet and cancel one or the other, kind've like how the IPhone naturally drove the iPod into extinction! The iPad and MacBook are just gonna get harder and harder to coexist, because they serve such a similar function. Eventually one will acquire all the benefits of the other and effectively they will fuse into one singular product!

Apple is trying to thread the needle to keep iPad going by giving it a keyboard and a pencil, but it can’t give it full macOS functionality. At least I don’t see that happening in the foreseeable future.

Get Minisforum V3 with Ryzen 7 8845HS instead. You have full Windows 11 and can even use eGPUs because it has 2 USB4 40Gbps ports.
Two existing options:
(1) Purchase a discounted MacBook with broken screen and de-lid the device. Use the MacBook base as your Magic Keyboard for iPadOS with universal control or use the iPad as the MacBook screen via mirroring. There are shortcuts available to initiate macOS mirroring wirelessly to iPad screen - initiated from iPadOS.
(2) Ditch MacOS and RDP into as many Windows desktopOS instances as you want. Cellular iPad is ideal for this. Either use your own windows hardware or your own virtualized windows instances on home server or cloud.
My M1 iPad Pro runs flawlessly, handles everything this wimpy ipadOS provides. No need to upgrade. I am worried that apple will pull some bullshit and say that only the m4 can run macOS… like the m1 laptops didn’t exist.
Even with an M1, on any machine having less than 16GB of RAM the experience would be complete trash. What percentage of iPads would that requirement eliminate?
@@JohnSmith762A11B i have an 8GB M1 MBA and my experience is fine, even working with Logic and Final Cut. 16GB is the minimum requirement for PCs, not Apple Silicon Macs
They have already said it, “M4 ready for AI”, so we have to upgrade in order to benefit of the new features.
My 12.9 m1 runs great. I will wait 2 more years and wait for 15 to 20hour battery life

Even when the m4 comes to Mac’s I’m not sure that I’ll upgrade. The m4 finally looks like a nice boost over the m1 but my m1 still feels very fast. I’m content with what I have for now.
they still aren’t using the potential of the 4 year old m1. when your using them there’s basically no difference between the m1 and m4 when the os limits it.
I don't even complain my iPad 7 with A10 at daily use. Only problem is the RAM size make things lag out.

I have a 2017 IPad Pro 10.5 and it’s fast enough for most apps! I’m interested if Mac OS is implemented!
I want iPadOS to get a better file manager, window manager, the ability to connect to more peripherals and devices, and a terminal for devs and people who work with code like me as a CS student.
The way they could do this is just, when it detects you’ve connected a Magic Keyboard, it reveals a new hidden page on the Home Screen that is basically a Mac desktop. So all you have to do is swipe over from the side to get into “Mac mode”.

If I could run desktop app like my phpstorm IDE for coding then I would replace my MacBook pro right away. Without desktop app , iPad is just a media player device for many people except content creators and artists and music composers.
MacOS is never coming to iPad. Apple has made this clear multiple times. Everyone just has to accept and live with iPadOS

I’m still on my 2020 iPad Pro with the keyboard and pencil. It still looks new. When I bought it, the promise of full Photoshop lured me in. Just this year, they added some good features. I use my iPad as a laptop most of the time, and I jump to my Mac Studio when remote and need the desktop.
If the browser on the iPad were the same as on the desktop, it would be awesome, and some features don’t work on the iPad.
Apple will never let the iPad Pro reach its full potential. They will keep it a bridge device to protect MacBook sales. Putting MacOS on an iPad Pro, would completely change their business model.
MacBook sales ? Dawg. iPads are more expensive than their entry laptop (air) LOL more iPads more money and best of all (for them) is that there is only one port on the iPad meaning a huge point of potential failure.
It is too expensive to be called a bridge device. OS must be vastly improved to justify that high price.

MacOs is not ready for touch input, to be fair.
Most people in the comments think of a device with keyboard attached, but a (touch first) tablet has to work without keyboard or trackpad/mouse.
I'm a user of Surface devices (with Intel, not ARM) from day 1.
I seen the hate Windows 8 got and how Windows 10/11 still have issues on those devices (some things are even worse than with Win 8).
The same time I been using Macbooks for work.
MacOs is not even close to the level of "touch firendly", that Windows 8 was, when Microsoft launched Surface.
Sure, Apple could invest to optimise MacOs for touch.
But that is a heavy task, there are just so many sections to optimise ....
If they keep this shit ipadOS inside their ipad, I won't be buying it. Apple has to make it worth 2000$. For now, it's just a great piece of hardware run by a toy OS.

The base is £1300 and spread over 7 years, the average upgrade cycle then £200 a year for an iPad Pro seems like a reasonable amount.

Every US customer should be buying Minisforum V3 instead. There is no reason not to if you have a $1000+ tablet budget and when it has 32GB RAM, Ryzen APU, 1TB, and full Windows 11 at $1200 right with that early bird discount they're offering.
I think stage manager in the next update should activate something similar to DEX on the galaxy tablets where it’ll go from iPadOS to macOS with just a switch.
I ordered the 13 inch 512 gb pro to replace my 3rd gen iPad Pro. Im really hoping for big updated to IPad OS this year.
I literally did exactly everything in this video. Thought maybe it was time to update my MacBook Pro m1. Saw the price and also seen it was still iPad os and thought the price was crazy. Next thought I might as well wait for m4 MacBook Pro.

If you think it's bottlenecked by iPadOS, just buy a Mac and get yourself into MacOS.
It supports most app functionality of iPad(barring touchscreen) and it will eventually get m4.

Edit: People saying it needs MacOS just so that they can say they have options or "innovation" are welcome to do so if combining fridge and TV is innovative.
Also I hardly remember any argument for s9 ultra tablet or whatever it's called for having the same windows functionallity.

Screen got bigger bezels smaller, I thing size is the same only the connectors changes so incompatible with old keyboard as well as pencil because of magnets in different places. Of course done on purpose

Just marketing - the 13" is really the same 12.9" screen. It's like when LG refers to their 31.9-inch monitors as 32-inches. Same nonsense. You will still need new accessories simply because of the change in magnet locations for the new camera position. Understandable but still unfortunate - granted, if you can afford a Pro, not sure that is a deal breaker.

Waiting to see if Qualcomm delivers on a full Windows 11 experience with the Snapdragon X. I can't wait for Computex. Apple needs the competition. I actually think the iPad Pro getting the most advance tech is because of the shift in priority to the Vision Pro. Vision OS needs the performance efficiency offered by the M4 Silicon.

I really miss the 11in MacBook, and find iOS doesn't give me the functionality I'm after. So YES, I'd love for the to put MacOS on an iPad for use with one of the keyboards to make a mini laptop.

It can't do anything that the iPhone can't do. It may do a few things better, or easier, but nothing extra. Unless it runs MacOS it's useless at that price.
"useless" is very overdramatic. It has a small niche target audience, and obviously, most people would be better off with a laptop. For me, it's not brain surgery; I have both. I upgrade each device every six years. Best of both worlds and zero compromise. Anyone whining about carrying two devices, don't bother, as that is tiresome.
So that is what microsoft did a long time ago with the surface (way slower though). Apple should have a Samsung dex competitor at least

I have a 2020 iPad pro and it still works flawlessly. Only issue is the battery, but it cost about $150 to replace. The only thing that would motivate me to upgrade to the new ones is Mac OS on iPad, if that doesn't materialize I don't see any reason to upgrade to the new ones. I would consider maybe getting one of the M2 iPads just for the external monitor support.
I watched the event... and thought "Ho Hum.... no big deal." The ipad pro is already powerful enough for me... but I'm switching to microsoft surface because it runs full blown apps that are not crippled, low-budget, rental apps that aggravate me with advertising...
But the surface is much worse as a tablet...
@@simpromovie Perhaps the surface is worse.... I've bought CUBASIS as a sketchpad Digital Audio Workstation for iPad. I don't like it. I own Cubase. I would like to run Cubase. Cubase can run on a dumbed-down M1 mac mini, but it cannot run on an M1 ipad. I'm not renting Logic Pro, I own a copy. I'm not paying for it again. This is obviously not for me. I'm not a graphical artist. I'm not a videographer. There is a lot to NOT like about an iPad. I'm happy with my Macbook Pro and Mac Studio... But the iPad pro has been the worst money that I have ever spent on technology.
@@mr_travismc1 Isn't this the same for the Surface Pro? If you need real desktop apps a real laptop would be also even better. I used the Surface Pro for a year and than switched to the Surface laptop. It was the much besser device....(at last until Apple released the 15" MacBook Air which I am using now)

You can get that keyboard with the iPad that has function keys at the top and then if you put macOS on the iPad, then Apple would need to scrap its whole MacBook product line
Thank you for this video. As a iPad Pro 12.9 M1 user, I agree that it is a bit of a hard sell for me to replace it and all of my major accessories for the M4 Pros at this time. My current iPad is still snappy and has actually improved in usability with every iPadOS update. Even if a few of the iPadOS18 additions could end up being exclusive to the M4 iPads, I’m skeptical that there would be anything major enough for me to justify a hardware upgrade.
IPadOS is so lightweight and efficient that 2018 iPads are still great, and I don’t believe that is a bad thing at all by itself as a customer. To justify more users paying $2000 or over on newer iPads, though, there needs to be more use-cases to take advantage of all of that extra power.
These are crazy expensive! I think I can wait to get one of these as refurbished. The display alone kills anything they’re putting out as a MacBook, which is why I want it along with Face ID and the M4 processor. Nice to have all these options.!
Definitely not worth the upgrade. I still have an M1 IPad Pro that I could not use; I upgraded it to 1T to get the 16GB of ram😢 I am just able to use some features on it, so I am definitely not willing to lose anymore money unless it’s warranted. Also, my magic keyboard did not hold up well.

100% agree with everything you said - and yes, my $300+ iPad keyboard cracked the first year. Some of the apps I need won't run or aren't offered on iPadOS and you're limited to Safari or webkit-based products. When I bought the M1 iPad Pro, I bought into this (and other reviewer's) "hopeful hype" and also went for 1TB/16GB RAM in hopes of a dual-boot or virualized MacOS option. This time - I'll hold off until actual product ships.
@@toobaliciousIf you have it and keep it on iPadOS 16.3.1, you can virtualise windows properly with UTM. I’m about to pull the trigger and buy one second hand, but I’m also hesitant to do it in case wwdc actually delivers for the iPad this time
@@stefanjohnsson5661you should be able to use it like an enhanced display Wacom with your desktop, it should have enterprise level file system and the Ui should be elegant, Final Cut should be bi-directional between your Mac and iPad, you should be able to target the iPad from your Mac when previewing Final Cut Projects, you should be able to drive a Cinema Display from your iPad in slave mode while using a standard keyboard and mouse, and the iPad should support Mac-like UI conventions when using it as a desktop machine. As a pro consumer, I expect a pro level product and constant refinement for pro workflows so that my projects can travel with me and I can have maximum productivity.
@@BSingh-on4qr I just spent an hour or so reading about this on Reddit. According to the threads I've followed, UTM is unusably slow because of QEMU. And sadly, I cannot experiment and "see for myself" because my iPad is iPadOS 17.+ - oh well...
Totally agree. I ordered the 13 inch ipad pro with 1tb, but it would be so much worth it if it could run a version of mac os, even if it’s within an app that runs a virtual machine, like a version of Parallel, so that way we could even run a version of windows, for theses rare times that we need it.
I ordered the 1 TB M1 iPad Pro 12.9 today. Cost less than half the money and can do anything that an iPad should do. For anything else I have my MacBook or desktop Mac....

I ordered a iPad Pro 11 1TB people just don’t understand that the whole reason to get a tablet is the fact it isn’t a laptop.
The new Magic Keyboard function keys are not engraved with the F1 to F12 characters that are used in many computer programs, indicating that they have no plans to support MacOS.

One question. Would they had updated final cut or logic if they would let you use mac os in the ipad? I think this year it will be a new dissapointing OS moment.
I want to buy the new M4 iPad, but the incapable IPadOs won't cut it. So I will skip the M4 iPad this time.
I just realized that l even if the new version of iPad OS next month is amazing, it doesn’t release until September… which means the pros are still limited to the bad OS for another 3-4 months 😵💫
My M1 MBP is still rocking it. I’d consider an upgrade just because my current iPad Pro is like 8 years old now, but even that still does what I need it to do. Having something that I can use like I do my MBP but also can be clipped to my mic stand…yeah, I’d consider an upgrade.
What sucks is that power apps like FCP require subscription on iPad. Unless you’re using it to make money or you have lots of money to waste, FCP on iPad doesn’t make sense.

I just can't seem Apple adding support for MacOS. Apple makes an astronomical amount of $$$ from the AppStore. Any support for MacOS would eat into that revenue.

I'm sticking with my 15" MBA + 13" M2 iPad Pro until iPad available w/ full macOS, even then I'm not sure about downgrading the screen.
Im considering if I switch my Mac mini M2 to a iPad Pro M4 but idk ... Mainly to have the freedom so take it around the home. Otherwise it would be sitting on the desk and connected to a Monitor for Daily driver with a keyboard and mouse to game (Cloud Gaming PC), surft, TH-cam, etc. All stuff I do atm with my Mac^^

Video editing apps and vector editing apps? I bought 1TB version and I edit video, photos, play emulation games, download movies, download Apple Arcade games - 1TB is a good size fit this stuff

I’m coming from the iPad Pro 12.9 2021 and ordered the 1 TB iPad Pro 13 inch with the Keyboard and the new Pencil Pro. It costs 2827€ including VAT of 19% here in Germany (3047$).
I’m keen to see how much iPadOS will be changed in order to get some better pro experience.
My MacBook Pro will stay in any case, I think.
They will not cannibalise the MacBooks even though iPad are more expensive if you spec them up.

was hoping apple would release the ipad mini upgrade or at least a pro version in this event, then they just have to f things up with NO updates whatsoever

Yes it is rumoured to be updated later in the year, hopefully with the latest A series chip as it will be able to play all the latest games and support Ray Tracing.
When will they bring Xcode to the iPad Pro?
I just ordered the new iPad Pro 11" with 1T so got the M4 chip. I'm hoping that they do something with the software too. I needed a new iPad this year anyway, but might not have spent $1800 on one, plus extra for the keyboard and pencil, if I can't truly edit videos on it. I'll have to work with it and see. If I end up having to shell out that much again for a MACbook I'll be really ticked off. Incidentally, I read a lot of comments from people saying that Apple will never fix the software because it would kill off sales of MACbooks. But maybe that's where Apple is headed. It would make sense for we customers in some ways. But we'd really need more ports for that to work, as well as the software.

13” is too cumbersome in my opinion for an iPad
I’m gonna buy the 11 inch iPad Pro, it would be nice a full macOS but I don’t really need it; I’m upgrading from a 7 year old iPad. I like that they put the M4 and the tandem oled, I’ll be keeping the new tablet by at least 5 years so is a future proof item.

Yeah I want one, of course after the initial release I needed one! - but, a few days of reflection, I will wait again..presently on my iPad 2018, which I use 99% of the time over my MBP 2021

I have been waiting for a compelling reason to upgrade from my 2020 13in iPad Pro. The M1 and M2 were not enough for me to justify upgrading. While I don’t use the iPad Pro for editing etc, the pro motion is absolutely essential in my opinion. The writing experience (with Apple Pencil) between my iPad Air 5th generation with the m1 and my 2020 pro is dramatically different (the pro significantly better) and I write on my iPad taking notes as a counselor 5-6 hours per day. I am finally pulling the trigger to upgrade to the m4, but honestly the primary reason is because the battery life on my 2020 has just become unbearably bad….
You know you can have your battery replaced by Apple for a small price, right? Much better option if you don’t need the extra power.
What would be cool if the iPad was similar to the surface pro where you could switch from windows 11 to tablet mode. You could have iPad os and then switch to macOS
I agree, it's gettin' weird over there in Cupertino. I suspect they'll converge all the things eventually, but not at the speed that will give them their own Windows 8-style debacle. I'm not sure what a touch-MacOs convergence looks like, but I sure don't want what Windows is doing.

I can see Apple providing a MacOS app that allows you to run a good variety of Mac apps within it. This would require you to partition some memory for MacOS only.

I have ordered an 11" base model Pro to replace the iPad mini 6 that I have had since launch. I want it as an iPad to do iPad stuff and I know the Pro is way overkill, but I want to try the display - I can return it if it doesn't feel like a worthwhile upgrade.
I bought the M1 iPad Pro when it launched three years ago because I hoped it would get macOS or something similar - and I wanted the mini LED display. I returned it after WWDC because; iPadOS (and the display was identical to my 2018 12.9" Pro for SDR). I did re-buy an M1 12.9" iPad Pro on special in 2022, and I bought the Magic Keyboard that time. In the end I sold it after a few months and bought a MacBook Air 13" M2 to replace it, but I would be all over an iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard that runs macOS. I have a 16" M1 Max MBP and an M1 Mac mini to cover Mac needs, so the Air / iPad is for using on the couch / carrying around, but a big screen iPhone that iPadOS delivers doesn't work for me even for that.
I have two M1 iPad Pro’s each 2TB, not cheap in cost and it would be great to be able to actually do real work on them, and be able to use the camera as an MacOS ability enhancement. Normal Safari/Chrome, normal Mail, normal Finder with local networking, normal manual application installation. Let’s go!!

Maybe they should rebrand iOS as ParisHiltonOS? ;) Seriously, I love the iPad Pro, but find myself using it less and less in favor of my Macbook Pro with a portable external screen. For stuff that doesn't need that, often my 15 Plus phone does the job...
Even if Apple does give it dual boot OS Ability there are still several major problems
1) £1300 Base model STILL only has 8GB of Ram and a 256GB SSD
2) You have to fork out £1900 for the 1TB 16GB and get the 10 core M4 performance
3) SSD upgrades are a shocking and disgusting £400 per 512GB !!!!
4) Right to repair STILL Not addressed !
5) There is only ONE USB C Port !
So I'm not sure if and when they intend to announce Mac OS support but they haven't prepared for it !

Am I the only person who saw the larger / wide iPad during the recent iPad event? Look at the iPad shown at the 18:48 time then compare it to the 13in at 18:46. Looks wide to me. Looks like a 16 in.
i selled my pro and lose money and got the basic one... still do the same things , hope they make a hybrid mac os if not ipad pro is the same as the ipad 10 just nonsense more power
