Hey Josh and hi everyone: I'm the long-time volunteer manager of the M*A*S*H site for Malibu Creek State Park. I designed the information panels, donated the long shade struicture and arranged for the restoration of the new ambulance. To answer Josh's question - the un-restored ambulance and Jeep at the set appeared on the show 40+ years ago and were badly burned in a 1982 wildfire that destroyed the outdoor set. The fire came through as the final episode was being filmed and because their outside set was now decimated, the fire was written in to the storyline of the last episode. 20th Century Fox left those vehicles behind to mark the set. Thanks to Josh for great content!
Visited the site in November and am so very thankful for all you have done taking care of this culturally historic site. You made the visit more than special!
I worked at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire across the road at Paramount Ranch in the early 80’s. Snuck onto the MASH site in 1981. Best memories. I still tear up when I see the opening credits for MASH with the choppers flying over the mountains. Ahhhh…nostalgia 🥰
Seen every episode of MASH at least a dozen times so, this place rates high on the cool factor for me! Would love a picture standing next to the mileage sign!
*MASH* brings back great memories of home; Mom & I would watch it every night at 6:30 pm almost religiously. Now I catch it on TVLAND from 7am to 9am daily, & once in awhile TVLAND will do a marathon. What a great show
Thank you for this tour! "M*A*S*H" is my favorite show and I still watch the reruns every day. I wish I had a chance to see the set when it was still standing but this was great!
I used to play a game. It consisted of how quickly I could recognize the current episode. It was usually very quick. This video brings back a lot of positive memories.
Used to watch MASH as a kid but actually didn't know where the filming location was. As you were hiking in I couldn't help but feel like it was so familiar and then there it was in the old photos. Really cool place.
Came here last year with my parents and we watch mash all the time. Also cool to stand on the helicopter pad and if you look to your right you can see the iconic peak in the first credit of the intro where the helicopters fly in. Glad they updated the signage this year. Thanks for the vid.
@@californiathroughmylens Thanks and sure is! One thing I found cool to do when I was there was to play the Mash intro on youtube and can recognize the real landscapes in person that are shown in the show
The best show ever made M.A.S.H. the burnt out ambulance is a wc54 the rebuilt one also the other is a Willy's Jeep it's on my bucket list enjoyed watching we're is your Dad haven't watched since you all did route 66 God bless be safe ✝️🇺🇸
Thanks. I grew on a diet of M.A.S.H in the UK. Whilst on a visit to Agoura Hills to my daughter I kind thought the drive down to Malibu looked familiar. So further researched and found the location site is only 12 miles from the house. I am back here and will aim to visit the place.
Mash is my favorite show of all time it's on 6 days a week, and I watch it every time it's on. I'm 50 now and remember watching it sometimes as a kid although I didn't have much interest for it then. I'm planning on buying the DVD set of every episode soon and a mash 4077 t shirt and coffee mug. The funny thing is, I'm a navy veteran not army 😂
Thanks for sharing this!! I need to hike it now and take pictures for my Dad. He’s not doing well and lives with me. Mash is one of his favorite show, I hear him watching it everyday lol
Great video again, I got goose bumps. Our family made this trail on November 1, 2018, just couple days before the fire. MASH site definitely belongs among highlights of our 3 weeks California trip. Although living 6100 miles (Czech Republic) from the MASH set, it was must see spot for us - MASH buffs.
I was there about 30 years ago and there was an old Rusty Jeep there even back then. They keep changing things at that Park quite a bit. Just a few years ago you used to be able to walk on the dam and even climb down the ladder to the lower section. And now it's all blocked off. And you never used to see deer there. But now there's a bunch of deer every time I go and they even saw a bear there a couple years ago.
Oh yeah, watched the show tons growing up (my father's favorite show). Reruns 5 nights a week without fail. I regret not doing this hike in the year I lived in Southern California!
Wow. I was tearing up at the end thinking of watching MASH with my parents while I was growing up. And just after that thought you asked us to post if we watched the comments. Thanks for taking me down memory lane. I may have to get down there to do my own reminiscing video. How cool you had it all to yourself.
I am 62 and grew watching MASH. Did the hike last week July 28th with my 18 and 17 year old sons. We did it in mid afternoon and Josh, you were right ... it's hot. Lol.
MASH is still on rotation in Australia, 2 episodes every weekday afternoon. The final episode was shown about 3 weeks ago and we're now coming to the end of Season 1 again.
Great vid! I live in Las Vegas & never knew that the MASH filming site was still accessible. MASH reruns came on at 3pm when I got home from high school & that's when I got hooked. Can't wait to check it out. By the way, those old rusted vehicles were actually RUNNING vehicles when the show was filmed!
That’s an awesome hike. I knew a lot of film lots got totally destroyed in that fire in 2008. I’m glad it been restored. I don’t live far from there so I will have to check it out.
My wife and I were able to hike to the Mash Site in October 2011. It has changed since we have been there. Also, those burnt vehicles were left there from the series in 1983, when a fire went through the area at that time. I'd like to visit again, but not sure when.
Our YWCA in the 1970s would drive up her for the day for Summer Camp. We would swim at that dam - and yes, it is steep on the other side. But kind of cool to be able to swim up to the edge and look down. :)
Hey Josh great video love the photos of the cast and scenery and that ambulance they restored as for the burnt out keeps those were ones used and left because they were burnt out shells again thanks for making this video!!
Ooh so cool. I love mash I’m gonna have to do this hike some day. Agoura hills is quite far of a drive from Long Beach lol. Probably why I’ve never ventured out that way. BUT. Now I want to. Lol

I love this place. I recently moved and haven’t hiked here in a while. Don’t know what about it always gives me peace, especially when it’s all green in the rainy season. (Which seems like rain is not so common in California anymore). Have you hiked there when it was greener and had more streams?

There is a sign just past the mess tent that says "Helipad" and a short hike up the hill for the best view of the site -- this video includes this view. When I was there in November you could tell that someone has spelled "GOODBYE" just like shown during the last scene of the last episode but with small stones. Would be great if someone put larger, white painted stones to recreate that image. Said a prayer up there to all who were lost or wounded, to those who did their best to help them, and to all those who suffered having someone they loved injured or killed. Love That Show and visiting the set is on my bucket list. But being disabled if they still don’t have the road in open I’m afraid it’s a no go. If memory serves correctly those old trashed vehicles are actual ones from the show that we’re lost to the fire that burned down the set during filming of the last few episodes. Did you walk up to the helicopter pad where the Goodbye was spelled out with rocks in the final scene?
Am hoping you can add it back to your bucket list by coming from the direction of the Reagan Ranch and parking in the community there... a much shorter trek and should be easier for the disabled.

I think that may have been filmed at Paramount Ranch? If so, most of that was destroyed in the fire. Only two buildings are left there.
Well that still would be more buildings than used for M*A*S*H yes? ~ tee hee ✌🏽Love all of it🌹
Is the helipad up there still?
Hey Josh great video and channel. I have a handicap son and we want to do this trial, could we use a jogger type stroller on this trail?
I was on this trail a couple days ago and I think you'd have trouble at the bridge.
Hi! Can this hike be done super early, like 6 am?
Not much there to see. Would have loved to have been there during the filming of the show all those years ago.
Suicide is painless 🎵
Klinger radar hawkeye legendary mash
Does it cost anything to park there?
Love That Show and visiting the set is on my bucket list. But being disabled if they still don’t have the road in open I’m afraid it’s a no go.
If memory serves correctly those old trashed vehicles are actual ones from the show that we’re lost to the fire that burned down the set during filming of the last few episodes. Did you walk up to the helicopter pad where the Goodbye was spelled out with rocks in the final scene?
Am hoping you can add it back to your bucket list by coming from the direction of the Reagan Ranch and parking in the community there... a much shorter trek and should be easier for the disabled.
Do u have videos like where to go with kids like toddlers I work as a nanny and my boss always ask me to look for places to go with kids and the kids are 5 yrs old let me know thanks
I don't have any videos at the moment but that is a great idea. Where are you based out of?
Watch Mash every chance I get online love the series.
Now why did they pick that location is their a certain reason ?
I wonder if the actors traveled to the site every day or stayed on site ?
Thanks
👍😍
Where's your dad? I miss the two of you.
He didn't do this trip with me but I am posting Alaska stuff with him on my other channel if you are interested
Recall that it never snowed on M*A*S*H (unlike in Korea). Now we know why.

Did I see that Dogs are not allowed on trails??
