Joey!! Welcome back! Man, I'd love if you are able to upload all your old videos! For new folks watching, Joey puts out some of the absolute best videos anywhere. His off trail mountaineering videos are spectacular!
The Backpacking Legend is back! So glad to see the best backpacking channel back up with new content. Welcome back Joey! Can't wait to watch your next one!
Tremendous video. Back in the 80's I hiked into La Barge Canyon with 5 of my buddies the last week of February. We had a couple of maps of the Superstitions. Nov. is typically a dry month so there was no streams running like you experienced. We found one spring that was actually a spicket with no handle, but were able to turn it with a Leatherman tool. We did find a large granite basin with some fairly clean looking water. We used a handkerchief to filter out the water bugs and floating debris and then purified it with iodine tablets. Once we arrived at La Barge Canyon we saw a very large ledge above the canyon floor where we actually had to climb hand over hand to reach it. The ledge was so large you could have parked a semi trailer in it. During our first night one of my friends starts yelling "get out of here". I looked out of my tent to see him standing in his boxers with a flashlight. It turns out he pitched his tent towards the rear of the ledge close to some very large boulders. He had invaded the home of a band of ring-tails cats and they were bouncing back and forth from the canyon wall to the side of his tent like a bunch of monkeys. Lots of people have died in the Superstitions over the years, very easy to get turned around.
Thank you, Joey. I love the Superstition mountains, but I am unable to hike due to my dislocating knees. It is such rugged hiking there, but it is so beautiful! Thanks so much. PS, I've never seen that much water in the superstitions when I was able to hike. It was usually in the warmer months. And dry except for the springs.
So it’s true that the paranormal is alive and well in the superstitions! I’ve only ever been there once, but completely lucked out started the hike at the Peralta trailhead and about 20 bighorn sheep were in the cliffs overlooking the parking lot. What a way to start it. Glad you’re back Joey.
Great video, nice to see the rain the desert, so glad you’re doing videos again. This is in my backyard so it was nice to see your hike only we don’t call it “the” weavers needle, we just call it weavers needle. Welcome back, your content was missed.
Nice shot of the C-17. I'll be back in the supes once we get a bit more rain. Your route was a good intro to the supes! Thanks for being you, Joey. Good luck to you and Cat on getting the truck fixed!
Glad to see you back! I lived in Apache Junction for several years. Just 2 miles from 1st water trailhead. Did many day hikes in the Superstitions. Great video.
Welcome back. Have seriously missed your channel. What an incredible adventure. Scared us a bit but knew with all your experience we had nothing to worry about Incredible walk in the spirits of the ancient cacti
Hey Joey, good to see you again and your hike. I spent a fair amount of time in that area a few years ago. Had a great time. Looking forward to more videos from you.
Good to see yeah back on your channel Joey. Was searching for a good winter multi day backpack away from snowy cold Canada and spotted yeah right away. The Superstitions look interesting. Trying to create a good 5 or 6 day loop of some kind there hopefully. Bit of a long flight so hoping for a longer trek into the wilds of Arizona. Take care from Vancouver.
Thanks Andrew, you can definitely do a big loop in there for 5 or 6 days. I would have stayed out longer but didn't have time. There are a few places in Arizona that look like great winter backpacking destinations, it's a for sure good place to go in January to get away from the snow and BC.
Dude, having lived in Arizona for 70 years I have come to learn that everything in the desert either scratches, claws, bites or stings! Welcome to AZ! It’s a great state!
Great video dude, glad to see you back on the tube. Hope to see you out there one day. Looked a little sketchy for a bit towards the end…lol You stayed calm and it paid off. Take care man.
