    Tremendous video. Back in the 80's I hiked into La Barge Canyon with 5 of my buddies the last week of February. We had a couple of maps of the Superstitions. Nov. is typically a dry month so there was no streams running like you experienced. We found one spring that was actually a spicket with no handle, but were able to turn it with a Leatherman tool. We did find a large granite basin with some fairly clean looking water. We used a handkerchief to filter out the water bugs and floating debris and then purified it with iodine tablets. Once we arrived at La Barge Canyon we saw a very large ledge above the canyon floor where we actually had to climb hand over hand to reach it. The ledge was so large you could have parked a semi trailer in it. During our first night one of my friends starts yelling "get out of here". I looked out of my tent to see him standing in his boxers with a flashlight. It turns out he pitched his tent towards the rear of the ledge close to some very large boulders. He had invaded the home of a band of ring-tails cats and they were bouncing back and forth from the canyon wall to the side of his tent like a bunch of monkeys. Lots of people have died in the Superstitions over the years, very easy to get turned around.

      That's a cool story! I love listening to people's stories about that mountain. My favorite time to visit is when it's raining in the Sups.

    Love a good latergram...! And loved seeing you be wowed by the Arizona desert! Some things to know about water in the desert - there's a lot more of it than we've been led to believe. There are fairly shallow aquifers underlying the Sonoran, Colorado and Mojave deserts (AZ and southeastern CA). Another thing is that you're never gonna get soaked by an AZ rain unless it's during the summer monsoon season. Finally, winter has only become cloudy on a regular basis in the last few years or 7. If someone has spent a lot of time here and is a sky watcher, they'll be able to vouch for the increasing "painting" of the sky, which leads to a gross brownish-gray overcast that you would not find until more recently. Same goes for southern CA (another place I watch the sky a lot)... and probably many more locales in the southwest. Glad your trip was such a success and thanks for treating us to all the water sounds 💦

    Thank you, Joey. I love the Superstition mountains, but I am unable to hike due to my dislocating knees. It is such rugged hiking there, but it is so beautiful! Thanks so much. PS, I've never seen that much water in the superstitions when I was able to hike. It was usually in the warmer months. And dry except for the springs.

    Good to see yeah back on your channel Joey. Was searching for a good winter multi day backpack away from snowy cold Canada and spotted yeah right away. The Superstitions look interesting. Trying to create a good 5 or 6 day loop of some kind there hopefully. Bit of a long flight so hoping for a longer trek into the wilds of Arizona. Take care from Vancouver.

      @MyOwnFrontier  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks Andrew, you can definitely do a big loop in there for 5 or 6 days. I would have stayed out longer but didn't have time. There are a few places in Arizona that look like great winter backpacking destinations, it's a for sure good place to go in January to get away from the snow and BC.

    Hi Joey, let me begin by complimenting you for an excellent video. The video was very clear and you did a great job of capturing all of the beautiful scenery and the ruggedness of the Superstition Mtns. What camera or cell phone did you use, the colors and clarity of the video was very good. I haven't watched any of your videos before , so apparently you are an excellent back packer. You proved capabilities by this TH-cam video. It was fun to your trip through the Sups, my hiking days are over. Your video brought old memories of hiking through the Superstition Mtns, first trip was in the late 60s when I returned from Vietnam. In the 60s especially the Sups very remote, little foot traffic and lots of old prospectors still looking for the Lost Dutchman Mine. It was suppose to be near Weavers Needle. My hiking buddies and I made numerous trips into the Sups during the 70s & 80s by foot and by horse back ( Don Donnelly Stables in Apache Junction) You did an excellent job of covering the area, logically planning your route, taking necessary supplies and paying attention to water. You went during the wet months; which was wise. We sometimes went during March & April, temperatures were still mild and water was plentiful. Thank you for sharing, you did an amazing job and obviously you are in great shape. It brought back many memories .....
