I lived in "The Swamp Tent" for many years. All my Friends did sleep in my home, 'cause I'd invite friends out for a "Hide 'n Go Seek" 3 day 'n 3 night weekend. We had more fun then you could imagine! Full on Fun 'n play till ya drop! If tired, just go on in, grab a cot, when ya wake up, get'cher butt back out 'n play! In all those years of play, I Never once got caught, found by anyone! And was everybody Mad when it was over & I finally revealed my secret hiding place!!! You guessed correctly if ya figured out I stood still, frozen in the same place for 7 yrs. of play! My black gloves hid my face as each one was "it" & walked 2 feet in front of me. Nobody could believe the simplicity of my cleverness, I was hidden literally in plain sight! One of the great things about MASH was the show NEVER disrespected those who served in the military. It portrayed the Korean conflict but appeared on TV at the end of the Vietnam war. Given how poorly we veterans were treated it was a joy to watch a show that showed all veterans the respect we had earned. For that reason alone it became one of my favorite shows.

You're another person who is quick to point out how badly Vietnam vets were treated, but is quiet on who specifically treated them badly. Because it was not the entire population of the US. Far from it. It was the radical American Left.
Thanks from NY. I dont fly so Ill never see it Live and I'm glad there are people who care enough and remember this magnificent show. Almost half a century & MASH is still fresh, original & tearjerking. Probably the best show in TV history. (Being from NYC & Jersey, The Sopranos run 2nd in my faves). 😊

I was there a few weeks ago (April, 2018). It looks much the same, but the rusted truck is gone and the tent sites are no longer marked. However, they've set up picnic tables with camouflage netting over them at the site of the mess tent, so I was able to sit and have a snack in the mess tent! Too cool. Almost worth an 8,000 mile road trip just for that. Malibu Creek State Park is a really nice park, I was impressed, it also didn't hurt that the weather was just as nice as you could ask for, sunny and cool.

The Vintage military vehicle was brought in as well as re-enactors in Feb 2008 because they had an event there with some of the old cast members such as Mike Farrell ("BJ Hunnicut"), Loretta Swit (Hotlips Houlihan), William Christopher (Fr. Mulcahy), Jeff Maxwell (Igor the Chef) as well as the director and producers!!

As a young GI, I was stationed in Morocco in 1959. Many of the vehicles depicted in the MASH series were used daily at our Site Y - 11 in Morocco. MASH episodes remind me of those days back in Morocco.....

Thank you very much for taking the time to get to the site, video, narrate and add special effects to. Very enjoyable for those that will never have the opportunity to see the site live!
when I attended marine corps boot camp at mcrd san diego in 1984 we went to camp Pendleton for rifle range and field training, and I remembered when we first arrived at camp san onofre for rftd I saw the mountains and commented that it reninded me of the opening credits for mash! one of our drill instructors replied that he believed the show was filmed in that area so it probably was! then he made me and the other private give him 50 bends and thrusts for talking in the ranks!

Because I have fond memories of the 1970s, which is when the shows ran on TV. The show itself sucked for the most part. I preferred Kojak and The Rockford Files.
My experience had been that those who thought the show sucked were quite going when it was on and didn't fully understand it. I myself didn't rally care for it at first, but one I was a bit older I loved it. It remains one of the best shows of all time.

Very Cool Video!! It’s so hard to believe that’s its last Ep was 37 Years Ago!! M*A*S*H Is one of my all time FAVORITE TV Series!! Thanks for the trip down memory lane!!
My band played at a good bye MASH event at the Binghamton NY Armory the night the series closed. My memory seems to recall a Thursday evening. No such event could have happened for any other TV production. America watched that last show. Amazing to see how little remains of the 80’s iconic show
Im 36 y/o and have watched this show all my life. My son and I watch it now. This is a pride of TV history that will go on for generations. I don't know anyone in my family who doesn't own the entire collection. Im just now finding out that there are After MASH shows.

Thanks for the tour of the film site, SandhillDigger, they replay the show constantly here at 6pm and very often I go for weeks watching it while I prepare and eat dinner. My dad was in WWII so he hated MASH, the one that brought us together was PBS's World At War late on sunday night when they showed the real graphic B&W WWII footage. But it's a comfort to know I can visit it if I ever get out to California. I like national & state parks and camping/hiking. Looks like it'd be perfect to mountain bike in, actually.
I hiked up there in 1982, during the break before the final season was filmed. Because it was the break, all the tents had been taken down, but, as now, you could see where they were set up. They had a lot of camouflage netting still in place around the helipad - I must confess that I swiped a strip of khaki fabric from there (as I'm sure many have done before me), but have no idea where it is now. You're right about the fire up there. In the series finale, I was always confused about why the plot had them "bugging out" just before the war's end, so that their last few scenes together took place with the 4077th set up at an entirely different location from the one we'd been familiar with all these years. As it turned out, it was necessary because the familiar location had been severely burned, and wasn’t usable for filming.
Really enjoyed looking where the legendary hit M*A*S*H was filmed, loved this series growing up, along with starskey & Hutch , kojak and Columbo one of my favorite shows......Fond Memories.

My friends & I went there in 1980. The "unit" was basically set up, even between seasons. We took a ton of pictures. We were able to drive up to within 2 city blocks of the site. It was totally surprising how small the "buildings" were. Rosie's was a front, about 5 or 6 feet deep. Quite an experience. ;^D

Hi. Mash has Been my fav.classic show 4 awile. I luv all the characters in the show.& its such classic hit remembering our troops overseas. It brings realization back again remaking the war in2 reality.
It was very nice to see the set of a show I love to this very day. I was fifteen when the last episode aired, and I remember how emotional it was then, and still is today, if you know how the characters developed over the history of the show. Thanks again for posting this!

This is really kind of moving to see all this and emotional as well... To think of all the people that were there carrying on their lives having families having troubles at home you know going on vacations carry on the life while they were making this show... I want to thank you very much for sharing this you did a really good job
NCIS; despite a lot of it supposed to take place in Arlington, Va; it was filmed in Santa Clarita. Of course what I found bittersweet were the rustFREE old cars/trucks from the 1960's in supporting scenes. I was born/raised in the DC area and, trust me, a 1974 vehicle was already starting to rot away by 1978.

+Vinny Reinhardt Agreed..I love this show..I have all the boxed episodes..and it's awesome that it's on netflix..one of the best shows ever made..I highly recommend everyone watch it in it's entirety..Radar was my favorite but I liked them all...
very nice to see the location. I grew up watching M.A.S.H. My father served in the Korean War and would occasionally comment on a memory that the show had prompted. Thank you.

Thank you sir for sharing this with us.. I enjoyed seeing the hill that the helicopter came around and the sign and oh my goodness the hike to get to where they filmed? Lol.. It was also very cool to find out where it was filmed so thank you for hiking up that long trail in 98° weather and filming it for us to see..

I was just a little boy going from house to house singing Christmas carols and dropping off trees and presents. One of the houses family was watching MASH and someone in our group said "MASH is starting!" they welcomed us in and we all watched an new episode of MASH in a warm crowed living room on a cold winter night. Good stuff

thank you soooooo much. this was the best show in television history. I watched this as a young child and I can not remember ANY program that can have you crying like a puss due to it being that tragic .. then crying like a puss due to it being THAT funny in under literally seconds. No movie or television show has had the true emotional impact as this cinematic masterpiece . THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!

While I was stationed in the LA area, we visited the MASH film site several times. The hospital was still standing (in good shape) as were the tent supports. The road to/from the site were a bit worn.... but it was a well worth trip.......Brought back wonderful memories.
Yeah....No. The hospital and everything else in the area burned down before they even finished filming the final couple episodes and were not rebuilt. So that didn't happen
thanks for the video. i love seeing where they filmed something, how they change it with "Hollywood magic". they use the same spot for several scenes, but by moving a camera and adding some props, you think they are on the other side of the set.
I appreciate you watching, thank you and hope you consider subscribing if you have not already. Currently uploading new content on a regular basis. Please like and subscribe !
You have to remember that a big chunk of the series was filmed in studio. They used this Locale from time to time. I'm sure it saved money to film in studio. From basic things like feeding all the people there to transportation of equipment, it was much better in a controlled environment.
+rob ribant A lot if not most of it was filmed in the studio where they recreated the Swamp, etc. This location was used mainly for establishing shots and exteriors

Hello! I lived in "The Swamp Tent" for the last 5 years of the show. Have we met? They called me "Miss MASH" probably because I actually, really did live in "The Swamp Tent" out there in the middle of nowhere in the Mountains.Hawkeye 'n BJ never really did. LoL! I can tell you this true fact from my heart: "If there would of been a way to live out the rest of my life in that Swamp Tent, you could of Never gotten me out!" During my life way out there, I met some of The Greatest People I could, or ever would of met anywhere else on Earth! M*A*S*H Fans, people from Every Part of The Globe would trek all the way out just to see the set! I bought cases of T-Shirts, just like the one I am wearing there, sitting in my home, "The Swamp Tent" I would give them out to certain people as I bought cases at the studio. Maybe You got one from me? Parents & children alike just Loved it! At times I was known for dressing a bit of the set for "Still Shots Only" I would even bring out "The Ric Shaw" & use a type of sign language & Point to the people as to what they should do to get some most xlnt photos of them, for their books to share with others back home! Well, I guess I should end here, after all, this is No Novel! Take Care, &, If you do ever plan to hike out there= "Beware of Rattlesnakes!!" I say this only as friendly advice! I made a Large plywood sign, leaninh up against Col. Potters stable, & I Always had a fresh dead one lying there because I wanted to Warn people of this True Danger! "Do NOT Open Any Tent Doors! That one just popped his head out, rattled his tail, & lunged at me! I blew the sucker's head off!" Would'nt You? : ) Take care, Use prayer, Miss M*A*S*H ~
Enjoyed walking out to this site, still very recognizable, but no tents, etc, just the vehicles and the sign when I was there as you can see in the video. I am not sure, but I think on the road to the site was the site of the ranch used in "The Rifleman"

I certainly would, if I could have a couple of very dry Martinis.
Be very careful going out there, Colonel Flagg is hiding somewhere in those trees watching you...
of course he is.
yeah but if he jumps out at you he'll probably break his arm....you know, since he's the "wind" and all lol
He's the wind...
and of course he will convince you he isn't really there.

I enjoyed watching. I hike this same hike when I 13years old. I still watch the show and also have it on DVD.
Thanks for watching
Thanks from NY. I dont fly so Ill never see it Live and I'm glad there are people who care enough and remember this magnificent show. Almost half a century & MASH is still fresh, original & tearjerking. Probably the best show in TV history. (Being from NYC & Jersey, The Sopranos run 2nd in my faves). 😊

Big part of me gets emotional watching this. I remember laying on the floor watching the show when I was 7&8 years old.
Michael Snyder ... me too
I can remember doin the same in fact we would watch it in the den and I would lay on the floor to watch and try to pretend I fell asleep when it was over so I wouldn't have to go to bed! LOL I would lay there hoping that if I was quiet my parents wouldn't notice me and I could keep watching TV LOL IT NEVER WORKED!! LOL!!! AWESOME MEMORIES THOUGH!!!LOL!!
Same, imagine how many people just like us were doing the same.

Mulcahy), Jeff Maxwell (Igor the Chef) as well as the director and producers!!
thank you for watching. I have uploaded new content to my channel, please check it out.

As a young GI, I was stationed in Morocco in 1959. Many of the vehicles depicted in the MASH series were used daily at our Site Y - 11 in Morocco. MASH episodes remind me of those days back in Morocco.....
Thank you , and sorry for the long delay in getting my response posted, kind of got of the wagon for a while , but now I am trying to catch up and just wanted you to know, new content is being added to the channel. Thank you, and hope you will subscribe if you have not already.

Thank you very much for taking the time to get to the site, video, narrate and add special effects to. Very enjoyable for those that will never have the opportunity to see the site live!
Glad you enjoyed it!
when I attended marine corps boot camp at mcrd san diego in 1984 we went to camp Pendleton for rifle range and field training, and I remembered when we first arrived at camp san onofre for rftd I saw the mountains and commented that it reninded me of the opening credits for mash! one of our drill instructors replied that he believed the show was filmed in that area so it probably was! then he made me and the other private give him 50 bends and thrusts for talking in the ranks!
Geez and they want recruits
Bob Mowreader
Great story but it was filmed in Hollywood.

Thank you for sharing, your adventure.
I have enjoyed going to the M*A*S*H* set(s), for years.
I still enjoy every episode.
Glad you like them!
someone should spell out goodbye in rocks as a permanent landmark right were in was at the end of the show up on the helipad..that would be cool
+tweevers2 you'd have to stop people from messing it up, that wouldn't understand what it was.
Then why are you watching this video?
Because I have fond memories of the 1970s, which is when the shows ran on TV.
The show itself sucked for the most part. I preferred Kojak and The Rockford Files.
Medvetz63 I agree ,could never get into it,just remembered the opening then would change the channel,
My experience had been that those who thought the show sucked were quite going when it was on and didn't fully understand it. I myself didn't rally care for it at first, but one I was a bit older I loved it. It remains one of the best shows of all time.
Very awesome ... thank you for doing what many of us M.A.S.H. fans may never get a chance to do. One of the greatest TV shows ever!
thank you, honestly, I never really thought I would get to do this myself
Thank you Sir for the Tour.........One of my all time favorite programs
thank you for watching. I have uploaded new content to my channel, please check it out.
There's a large part of me that wants to rebuild that site...
Rusty Shackleford Me and you both brother, if someone did imagine the amount of money it'd bring into the local economy
Our they could have used some of the planeloads of cash The Dear Leader sent to Iran
KutWrite you're absolutely correct. Moonbeam would find something to piss the money away on...something utterly worthless.
There has been a LOT of filming in this area. But it's a park these days so i assume it's protected.
Yeah, rebuild it to the REAL setup and that is Robert Altman's 1970 setup.
That road you were on in the beginning looks like the spot where the bus broke down and Frank Burns was hoarding Hershey bars.
probably was that spot
Interlink Plus I've just seen this, and I thought the same exact thing! Too funny
Hahaha yes. Good old ferret face
Yes the 1955 Ford bus that was built 2 years after the Korea war.
Amazing holly weird prop guys think nobody would notice.
Actually it looked like when BJ first joined and they had a flat tire

My band played at a good bye MASH event at the Binghamton NY Armory the night the series closed. My memory seems to recall a Thursday evening. No such event could have happened for any other TV production. America watched that last show. Amazing to see how little remains of the 80’s iconic show
Thanks for watching

Thanks for the tour of the film site, SandhillDigger, they replay the show constantly here at 6pm and very often I go for weeks watching it while I prepare and eat dinner. My dad was in WWII so he hated MASH, the one that brought us together was PBS's World At War late on sunday night when they showed the real graphic B&W WWII footage. But it's a comfort to know I can visit it if I ever get out to California. I like national & state parks and camping/hiking. Looks like it'd be perfect to mountain bike in, actually.
thank you for watching. I have uploaded new content to my channel, please check it out.
Thanks for watching
Really enjoyed looking where the legendary hit M*A*S*H was filmed, loved this series growing up, along with starskey & Hutch , kojak and Columbo one of my favorite shows......Fond Memories.

My friends & I went there in 1980. The "unit" was basically set up, even between seasons. We took a ton of pictures. We were able to drive up to within 2 city blocks of the site. It was totally surprising how small the "buildings" were. Rosie's was a front, about 5 or 6 feet deep. Quite an experience. ;^D
Jim Benn
Can you post some pictures?
Yes, the buildings stood from the summer of 1972, until they burned, in the fall of 1982
Would love to see them! Maybe on Pinterest? Anyone else?

I know it was the wind blowing against the microphone of the camera, but in my imagination, it was "5 o'clock Charlie" ready to bomb the ammo dump. Thank you for sharing this. MASH is an all time classic.

It was very nice to see the set of a show I love to this very day. I was fifteen when the last episode aired, and I remember how emotional it was then, and still is today, if you know how the characters developed over the history of the show. Thanks again for posting this!

Thanks for watching
In those MASH episodes, I often thought Korea looked a lot like California.
if I remember correctly, Yechon S. Korea does resemble CA. a little bit or it did back in 86 when I was there.
I've been to korea and yes korea is very hilly like California however California is brown korea is very green
And most boomer Americans think Korea has the climate of CA.

Do yourself a favor, Watch complete "MASH" from first to last show on NETFLIX,
Best show ever, never gets old great lines and jokes, all relevant in today's world
I do know WAR is sad but MASH is like medicine helps the PAIN
i watched as a teenager BUT love it more today
+Vinny Reinhardt Agreed..I love this show..I have all the boxed episodes..and it's awesome that it's on netflix..one of the best shows ever made..I highly recommend everyone watch it in it's entirety..Radar was my favorite but I liked them all...
+jaded love Netflix recently discontinued the show.
Coleton Klingenmeier I was just starting to watch too
My favorite quote from the show was "If my dog had your face, I'd shave it's butt and teach it to walk backwards!"
Coleton Klingenmeier I know, that bites..that's not cool of Netflix..why put it on there and then take it off?..that's an awesome show...
very nice to see the location.

Good stuff

I lived in Topanga Cyn for several years in the 80’s and this was one of my favorite day hikes. Beautiful, weirdly reminiscent to a MASH fan, and watch out for ticks.
Very cool!
"`M' stands for `MOBILE'" Colonel Potter circa 1981
bballtwirler 😂👍🏻
bballtwirler Or was that when Harry Morgan played that batty general Steele??
Nikki Hensley "Be kind to Uncle Fudd on the Mississippi Mud!"
bballtwirler 😂😂😂😂
I thought that was when Frank took over when Potter was away? He had them pack up the camp and move across the road.....
Thank you for posting this. Mash is the best tv show that was ever made.

We could look out from a friend's house on Mulholland Hwy and see the chopper near Saddle Peak. We knew MASH was filming.

thank you soooooo much. this was the best show in television history.

I always thought it was filmed ‘onsite’ meaning in Korea guess I was wrong

+SandhillDigger mash was a great series
All interiors were in a studio
Thanks for the video, I was a huge fan back in the 70's and 80's

I just uploaded a video watching this on TV plz go and look at it it is called M*A*S*H by Andy elkins
Plz go and look at it
Yeah I don't think thats the original sign, the Smithsonian has it in their collection americanhistory.si.edu/collections/search/object/nmah_680562
