Don’t Grind Your Gears - Replacing the gear oil in the 2000 Subaru Impreza

Since we’ve recently acquired this 2000 Impreza 2.5RS, we’re doing a bunch of preventive maintenance to see how everything looks. That includes replacing the gear oil in the manual transmission and rear differential.

My MY2000 RS is grinding in 5th gear, do you think that changing the gear oil will eliminate the grinding? Thanks...

It certainly can’t hurt but when you drain the oil be sure to look closely at the old fluid. If it glitters, or worse has metal flakes or chunks, you know you’ve got bigger problems. Good luck! Thanks for watching.
