I am reminded of the speakers I never built as a youngster...
35 years ago I didn't have the money or tools to make a decent attempt.
Now I don't have the time either!
But my nostalgia was piqued sufficiently for me to acquire a replacement copy of 'An Introduction to Loudspeakers and Enclosure Design' (my original is long lost) with the plans to make a pair of Kapellmeisters.
It seems unlikely that they'll get made any time soon, but it's a handy little book to have on the shelf.

That's a shame Rusty. But it was good to see some woodwork anyway :) (Perhaps your bass drivers are not large enough? I would think the horn needs a certain amount of air movement to work, and those size drivers may not be pushing enough air). Thanks, Craig

    Thanks for 13 enjoying minutes.
    Woodwork is fun. Yes.
Beds normally have 4 legs, as well as wagons. 5 wheels on a wagon makes trouble. (Expression here). A bed with 5 legs? I had to make the second bed of my lady friend a 5-legged one. One long carrying bar broke in the middle, and in the middle of the night, and I had to sleep in a bed listing some 30 -40 degrees, unfortunately away from my friend.... A fifth leg was precision milled (!) and installed as well as a 1 meter M10 threaded bar to keep the long bars together.
Wood splinters(spelling?) can be bad. Had one and thought I pulled it out... A few times per year like a little hill is growing there and it's irritating. Grab it and pull it off, cut if off, gives pain for some time. Then some months of peace and then again....
Rust coloured skin...... I get it!
I use 10 - 25 time optical magnifiers to find it. Then a needle work needle having a slight hook on the tip is perfect to get the metall out of the body (usually finger)...
A7 08:07-08:10 You use a saw. (Don't find the English name). A skilled woodworking friend named it "the rabbit c...k" (fast working body part...).
Did You use preferred types of wooden bords?
What will videos come in the future? Cooking? Gardening? Flying? Nobody knows, only it will be fun.

I love to watch you work. You have the patients to bring your wonderful ideas into the realm of physical reality. I made speaker enclosures a couple of times and made variable ports so I could tune them. Fiberglass insulation may dampen the cardboard box sound. Just staple a 2" layer on the inside walls.

    • @Rustinox

The problem is not the enclosure. It's the horn.

I might be barking up the wrong tree but sound waves like light like to bounce off of objects at the same angle that they hit the object, your blackboard sketch shows the sound from the speaker hitting a 45deg plane which is good but the next corner is flat so the sound would be reflected back the way it came, this would for me cancel some of the sound leaving the box, if you fitted a 45 degree fillet in the two square corners then the sound would be directed out of the cone cleaner, just my thoughts and I'm likely to be wrong but worth a try maybe, one final thing, I love wood but hate working with it because it has a tendency to burn when you try and weld it :-)

    • @Rustinox

Hello Rusty, I don't doubt that speaker design would be a difficult, frustrating experience. When I was taking engineering at university we had a course in fourth year called Vibrations and Acoustics. It was one of the toughest courses I took during my entire degree. I always found it funny that a dope smoking high school drop out could take a guitar and make absolutely fantastic music. Yet it took an incredible amount of academic discipline and effort to understand the mathematics behind that fantastic sound. Ken

Oh dear. Memories of my old failed attempts to build a speaker box at an wood work evening class at high school. I learned to my cost why high quality speakers were so expensive. They are bloody hard to build and sound just right. Eventually I was able to afford a reasonable pair of “Mission” speakers which have performed well for over 30+ years.
Today though it seems people are satisfied with the sound from a tiny “smart” speaker. How times have changed.

hello rustinox, nice video as always ;) !
I think that there is few solution for your speaker cabinets design problem, as you say in the video if you want "amplify" those low frequencies enough you need a longer length of the horn , you can also take a speaker with bigger diameter, they produce much better result in low frequency, I build (with friends..) few bass horn cabinet with 18" inch RCF speaker and they work "loudly" fine ;) ! Or why not one large bass reflex with two speaker in for more power in the very low frequencies ? Bass frequency are omnidirectional so ne need to get two units, just one big boxe in the room .. Lastly if you don't know the hornplan website go have a look it's amazing , many design with .pdf plans and sound measure !
I hope see one or more videos on speaker's theme, pretty interesting subject :) !
