- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 29 มิ.ย. 2024
- NOTE: All information presented in this video is based on publicly available information and it is intended to be a general overview of some of Vancouver's gang history.
In this video I cover some of the major gangs and crime figures that have become a part of Vancouver's history. There are hours upon hours of content on this subject out there, and this is just intended to be a general overview without going into too many details. This is also part 2 of a 3 part video series on this subject - I will be posting part 3 in about 2 weeks.
Vancouver is one of Canada's major port cities, and these urban centers have a more complex gang history than other cities in the country.
In this video I cover the following groups:
Sun Yee On Triads
14K Triads
Big Circle Gang/Big Circle Boys
Soccer Club/Chinese Youth
Bak Mei
Lotus Gang
Red Eagles
Star Wars
Ching Tao
Towa Gang
Los Diablos
East Van Saints
Collinwood St. Gang
Cordova St. Gang
Zoot Suit Gangs
Vic Gang
Alma Dukes
Grandview Park Gang
Clark Park Gang/Clark Parkers
There are more groups I didn't cover in this video that I will get to in the Gangs of Vancouver Part 3 video within a couple weeks.
I hope you found this one interesting and informative, and if you'd like to watch more of my content in general please consider subscribing to my channel - I upload at least one new video per week.
Thanks for watching!
YAY!!!! thank you for posting part 2, just started watching and I can't wait to learn
Thanks for watching - Vancouver definitely has a ton of gang history. Cheers mate, have a great week!
Well done can’t wait for part 3 and yeah, you should definitely do some of the old-skool stuff
I appreciate it, thanks for watching - I'm definitely going to cover more in part 3. Tons of history in that city. Cheers mate
been waitting for this!
Thanks for watching, cheers mate!
Great channel bro, keep the vids coming
I appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Great series. Well done and thanks for posting.
I appreciate it, thanks for watching!
Well done as always!
I appreciate it, thanks for watching!
great vid as always
I appreciate it, thanks for watching!
I really enjoy your content, keep up the great work you do, even enjoy your cooler brother🤣 I'd love some more content about Red Deer and their haunted places. I really want to know where to avoid😂 Happy Canada day to ya 🍁
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - the only haunted place I can think of in Red Deer is the old Cronquist House, I featured that in my haunted Alberta video last year. I actually plan on doing a video on Red Deer later this summer.
I'm glad you like my cool brother, he thinks he's a rock star but he part time manages a Hot Topic and lives in a rusted out Chevy Cavalier.
I appreciate the support and I'm looking forward to many more videos this year. Cheers mate!
Excellent video!
Glad you enjoyed this one, thanks for watching!
My great-grandfather came in 1898. There have always been gangs, even in the early 1900s. The Chief of Police always lived in a mansion. It wasn't just bribes; people would work for free in case they needed a favor.
Late 90s was fun. I was just walking into the club when Bindy was whacked. People ran outside and danced in the streets. My late grandfather employed a young guy who stole from him. He laughed it off and became a father figure to Fats Robertson, the top guy in BC for Montreal. My grandfather was a regular farmer. So I never believed the stories about Fats until it was on Google. He was 70+ when I met him. Regular house, no jewelry etc.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - sounds like you have some interesting stories from over the years. Vancouver definitely has a complicated gang history, way too much for one video. Cheers mate
@@krisdk... 50 years ago there were a handful of gangs in BC ... now hundreds of well Organized Crime Gangs with thousands of members and tens of thousands of associates have been given CARTE BLANCHE control of BC's streets with GUNS&DRUGS ... almost a 145% increase in gangs in 50 years ...!!!
... 2004 the rCmp/e-division concocted the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit-BC with a mission statement to DISRUPT and DISMANTLE gangs ... in the last 20 years well Organized Crime Gangs have been allowed to grow by almost a 30% increase under the watchful eye of the rCmp/e-division and the cfseu-BC ...!!!
I knew a Chinese guy in high school that was away for like half the school year or more. We were told he had a biking accident and broke his teeth biking. Years later, his close friend told me that it was actually a shooting he was involved in where a rival gang shot him in the face and he somehow didn't die and needed surgery. That's why he was away for that long. If you'll recall, I'm also the guy that told you I lost an innocent friend in the Surrey Six Shootings. The guy was just going out to go play basketball as he saw the killers coming out from a hit and they killed him for being a witness. Thanks to your videos, I've been rediscovering how much of my life has had gang violence on the periphery that I either blanked out or didn't notice until right now.
Chris Mohan
Sorry about your friend
Me too I went to Tupper in 85-88 era which included Bindy Johal and many gangs including Alley Boys and Lotus. The school was chalk full of gang members
I'm sorry for your loss 🫂
@@bostoneorge1487 Yeah, that's right. I was riding the bus on my way to college and I saw his face on a newspaper someone was reading. It's the only time I've ever asked someone if I could borrow their newspaper in my life, because of how shocked I was. The guy was so chill. I know you hear about innocents dying in the news all the time, but when it happens to someone you know, it's very different.
We need a part 3 !
I'll be posting that within a couple weeks, I didn't want to do all 3 parts too close together - balance the darker videos out with some lighter ones. Thanks for watching!
Keep it up thanks
Thanks for watching!
I watched part 1. Part 2 is equally good. Kelowna is influenced heavily by some of the gangs mentioned.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - glad you got some value out of the videos. And you're right - Kelowna definitely has its own gang history. That goes for other cities in the province as well, I may do more videos on the subject down the road. Cheers mate
I was in a DocMovie regarding the kid shot in the theatre on Broadway and Commercial. It was a Hong Kong director and it was released in Hong Kong then used in Lower mainland High Schools for Years to show grade 8’s the dangers of Ganglife. The director wanted kids who could actually Face get so he came too Al Chengs Kickboxing and offered us who trained there Roles. There was also actually Gang members in the Movie too. They basically didn’t speak English.
The Golden Princess theatre (now Rio) shooting. The Golden Princess was the only theatre in Vancouver back then showing Cantonese language movies. The shooting was big news because the Viet Ching gang member got tried as an adult even though he was 16. He got deported at 24 when he finished his sentence. The Lotus kid who got shot lost his eye but lived. Vancouver Asian youth gangs at the time were notorious for older bosses using juveniles to commit murders because of the light sentences if tried as a youth offender.
I think the movie you were in was called "Winston joins a gang", and changed the names of the people, and made the story take place at The Ridge theatre, but it was based on the same incident.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - that's interesting, and that was definitely one of the more wild gang shooting in Vancouver. Cheers mate, have a great week!
When I was growing up in East Van, there were Shaw, Golden Harvest, and Olimpia. @restoredaccess
Very interesting
Thanks for watching!
Great work. Politicians too scared to do anything about this. Disheartening to say the least.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - some of them do their best but it's definitely a complicated issue. Cheers mate
I heard a rumour that at the top of all gangs in Vancouver was ‘the board’. Old school WASP’s that are as old as Vancouver, based in a boardroom on Howe St.
I like that you mentioned the drug money being laundered through the real estate market, pumping up prices. The politicians never talk about this! It is always the other party’s fault. The problem of housing un-affordability goes back way beyond the recent interest rate hikes in response to inflation.
Thanks for watching - definitely an interesting problem that's been plaguing Vancouver for awhile! Cheers
Good job.. I remember all these gangs.. Guys would say they were in xxx gang, in grade 8. It was nuts, white kids with MC hammer pants strapped with guns.
Thanks for watching - Vancouver definitely has a long and interesting gang history. Cheers mate
4:49 Ray Chan couldn't be the guy pictured, right? The gang boss Ray Chan died in a hit in 2003 but the guy in the photo became an MP and is still alive, last I checked.
yeah cheers - put the wrong picture in there by accident, definitely rushed this video too much. I cut that part where he is mentioned
great work i'm from van - i had little knowledge of the gangs before the johal era - really eye opening! anyone heard of the phillies??? this is early 90's
Hey thanks for watching - I haven't heard of them but I'm doing a part 3 video down the road because there's just so much gang content in Vancouver
Teo gill and chico telaz started los diablos in 1986.,1st leader was teo.2nd leader became chico.then leader was garmel.the final leader was yawer khan. Most dangerous was Justin moyou.wondering how i know.
It all started for me at brittaina high school for me 1987.when i met Justin and we became best friends
You’re Corey’s brother?
Pretty difficult to compare gang activity decades ago to whats going on now. Now Im no choir boy. Ive had my share of unsavory activity. But this opioid epidemic is truly inhumane and out of control. I truly wish humans had a lot more compassion and awareness in their actions. When it comes to money? Its pretty sad many just dont seem to give a fuck about anything else. People are dying man. And they are far beyond being able to make a choice
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - it's definitely very concerning out there. And I agree - I think a lot of people just don't really have much choice when it comes to self-medicating and addiction.
Could you do gangs of Montreal too pls? Not much is known about them
Thanks for watching - I plan on covering the Montreal gangs in future videos, definitely a lot of content there. Cheers mate
Solid video bro. Saw part 1 and this popped up today. Good content. If you ever wanna collab and do like a commentary together about a topic. Hit me up. I got podcast mics
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I'm glad you got some value out of the videos. Interesting topic to me. Sounds good man, I want to start doing collaborations and interviews on my channel for some variation. Cheers brother
Paper Fan: The Hunt for Triad Gangster Steven Wong
Is a good read about Vancouver Asian gangs, Steve Wong founded the Gum-Wah's. Wonder if Strange North read it?
Thanks for watching - I haven't read that, I appreciate the recommendation. Cheers
thanks for shouting out templeton highschool
Thanks for watching - that place has definitely seen some action!
Growing up in the 90s i had a buddy who had the plug that was a Big Circle Boy. Buddy could get anything and had insane prices. He owned like 5 houses all over Van and 10 different cars.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - they definitely have a long history in Vancouver. Cheers mate
@strangenorth your welcome. Always nice seeing local news. I left Vancouver and moved up North but I still miss the coast.
Vancouver was the best place to grow up in the 80-90s was a pretty crazy time
I believe it - thanks for watching!
EVS East Van Saints were Tough as Hell in the 90s
They definitely made a name for themselves!
3:41 is a screenshot from a cool Japanese movie: Crows Explode
More videos on these chinese gangs and triads including Vietnamese etc
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I may do more videos down the road on those topics, definitely a lot of potential content there. Cheers mate
I knew most these guys haha < Champlain Heiiiiights !
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Fenta heads in Cordova. "we are the captain now"
thanks for sharing...Vancouver was alway`s my great escape from Winnipeg + I was a streetworker on the Joyce - Collingwood project + worked for Robert Kaplan ...times have changed health the UN voluntary unvoluntary organ donation + who profits the most from the enterprise ...I left the project beaten up + wanted The Canadian Army to intervene but the political will of the people wasn`t there despite the seriousness of the situation , one day it will be addressed it`s never too late if your life is in question...it`s a big ugly can of worms that needs opening + disposed of...thank you . :)
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - sounds like you've got some interesting stories from over the years! Vancouver is definitely not a boring city. Cheers mate, all the best
Forgot the shadow dragons chinese/Cambodia gang
I went to both Brit & Tech, I heard some nasty stories, about the nasty brawls between the 2 schools, 1 student had an umbrella shoved up his butt and it was opened up. Still uncertain the truth to that story, but that was the most brutal story I heard about.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - damn that's wild, hope that isn't true. Sucks there's so much unnecessary violence. Cheers mate
Hello, great video. I wonder if in your research you have come across any evidence of Ndrangetta activity in the Italian neighbourhoods originally situated along Commercial Dr and around the Hastings strip from Nanaimo to Slocan. Of course the demographics are changing but as an important Western port city I would imagine they would be here. Any thoughts?
Thanks for watching - I'm not too sure about that but I'm going to be covering more content in the part 3 video down the road. Cheers
Thanks. I have had trouble finding any information on Italian OC in Vancouver. As a port city and the importation of drugs I know they have been here for some time. From what I have seen, the Calabrians are most entrenched here. Vancouver may have been a city like Montreal where the Sicilian and Calabrian factions worked together. Any insight or research I appreciate.
Not massive to the story but I always interesting how Keaton Canadian places are named after Irish towns or counties
Thanks for watching - yeah that seems to be true!
part 1 was good, (pre-watch comment)
Thanks for watching, I actually think I rushed the prep of this video a bit but I hope people get some value out of it. Cheers mate
I live in this city, how come I don’t hear anything about those gangs?
The old Vancouver Downtown look so much better than the current Vancouver downtown. the old downtown look so classic
I agree, it's cool looking at old pictures from the 1960s-1970s. Cheers mate
Just fyi if you live in Van the Golden Palace is now the Rio
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - good to know, cheers
How about Rizzuto?
Thanks for watching - I understood they were based in Montreal and didn't know too much about their involvement in Vancouver.
“Nay ho ling aaah” means “you look pretty” in Cantonese.
…awesome video by the way.
Thanks for watching! I tried learning some Mandarin phrases awhile ago but it was tough, it's like they use vowels that we don't even have in English. Cheers mate
@@strangenorth haha, I actually learned that phrase from Wayne’s World part 1 LOL.
My. Brother. Told. Undergroúnd. He's. Desde. Know.

this must be very old old news. i dont see any gang guys in vancouver and i live in vancouver and im always in downtown or richmond.
I miss that Bino's
Thanks for watching - that place seems to have a pretty good reputation! Cheers mate
business by-law officers and other political officers came to a farm and asked the owner if they could inspect his farm, he thought he must comply to the legal artificial political personnel, so he volunteered to allow them to do their business on his property. for a few years they proceeded to accuse him of things he was doing are wrong, not to their liking and that he should do it the way they wanted, having to buy new things and changing building structures etc... he did everything they wanted. they then ordered him to shut the farm down, he had been running for over 40 yrs, never causing anyone any criminal intent, never causing damage and injury to anyone growing potatoes. so he got very angry at the legal by-law officer, just to act arrogant and totally mean, she said to him; if you had not allowed us on your property we would not have been able to do anything. the whole financial corporate legal civil political system, it's departments and services are businesses, that are only voluntary!
is the financial legal corporate system trying to hide that they are a business, that is only voluntary! should any corporation, business, service, have authority to force anything to do business in their "jurisdictional by-law authority" it's codes, rules? mcdonalds,? wendy;s? the corporate health department? the polls department? the lobbying department? licensing department etc... it's president and stock holders? popeye's chicken, it's stock holders? force your children to act as a slave to any corporation, business, service? this is what hitler did, stalin, lenin etc... the birth certificate is a corporate legal business, signed by the corporate registrar general, used as legal jurisdictional authority over any child and it's property, that has one. when any business wants to trick anyone to volunteer to their jurisdictional authority in their business, ask them to put in writing and send it to you. just state you do not want their business service, they may take you to court, before a jury of men and woman, with proof, state why you do not need the business service they offer. creatively remove the understanding(standing under) volunteering, consent into slavery, choose to be creatively free.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - definitely a complicated world out there but we should try to help each other out. Cheers mate
I thought brothers keepers were big too in BC
Thanks for watching - yes they have been active in Vancouver as well, I'm going to cover them in the part 3 video down the road. Cheers mate
Informative, thanks. I know there will always be crime, but allowing groups of criminals to amalgamate and organize is where the authorities should draw the line. Individual criminals commit crimes against individuals of a society, but groups of criminals (gangs) do large crimes against the whole of a society. Through our taxes we fund the authorities to stamp out crime as much as possible, but they are failing in this important task. The results are truely heartbreaking. Drug epidemic resulting in millions of deaths worldwide, 10's of thousands here in Canada. Money laundering and investing in real estate, making homes unaffordable to regular working people. The vast sums of money made from illegal activity funds corruption of our officials, that further enhances the corruption. It is spiralling out of control, and the authorities don't seem to be able to, or are not willing to do anything about it. Eventually, people will get fed up and take matters into their own hands. We would like to elect officials who will implement laws and fund the authorities to go after these criminal organizations, but without results, patients runs thin. Do we need to bring in the Army? What will it take to stop this runanway train crime wave?
Thanks for watching, definitely a complicated topic! Cheers mate
The Star Wars gang......that has to be a joke right?
Thay are Jedi gang
There was mention of a gang by that name that existed for a short while!
Hong Kouver
We should hand out search warrants willy nilly on report of suspected organized criminal activities.

SurreyLanka NewDelta thank you come again bastard guy !!!
....even if they didn't, they would, under "the criminal mind"
Everywhere is the world has gangster , not very unusual
Star Wars LMAO 😂
The Big Circle (Boys) are the ones in Vancouver. These old cats dont mess around, their the real thing. they lord over the disrespectful Viets. Even the red and white respect them I used to deal with one. in the 80s idiots from the Lotus and Red Eagles gangs, we beat the crap outta them in juvi lmao. The Clark Parkers have been around and far more significant compared to the Kiddy Gangs. The Moody bros are still kicking it. Im 51, i had spent over 5 years in prison before the age of 21. East✝Van.
