can't wait to see source 2 maps. I heard rumors of streaming loading maps for any effective size you want. but then knowing the source engine, I envision a worst case scenario of map-to-map loading barriers totally separating player interaction across them anyway, making it only a small upgrade over what we already have.
Describing it that way, wouldn't that essentially be the same technique as the aforementioned Go4TheKill gamemode? I couldn't imagine valve downgrading to that level considering how much of an advanced engine they're marketing it to be.
In Garry's mod there was an addon made by I think a single guy that was mainly meant as a localized gravity modifier, so you could set the side of a prop to have gravity going sideways into it, and you could jump onto it seamlessly. The creator said it worked by creating a seperate "map" with whatever surface of that prop set to the ground, and then it would sort of load it into the middle of the actual map you were playing on. They also said this meant you could have infinite (but repeating) maps, and demonstrated with an infinitely wide/deep flatgrass pit map. I'm vastly oversimplifying and don't really understand myself, but it was very clever, and I'm sure that Valve could use something like that or the technique used in Go4TheKill to make it easy to make very large maps. By manually modding minecraft, it is possible to generate the world up to 2,147,483,647 blocks in either direction, and would amount to 1.4 * 10^15 (1400000000000000) square kilometers, given that 1 block = 1 meter (according to minecraft wiki). Was waiting for you to mention Arma. I remember when I started the game and, after doing a couple of missions, dropped myself onto Stratis to roam. Wondered how long it would take to get from town A to B. They didn't even look that far, on the SMALL map in the game (though now that's Malden). Shit took me so long I ended up just quitting and spawning a car. Also, PlanetSide 2 would have been worth mentioning. It's about 8km x 8km per map, so about the size as PUBG. But those maps are all land (or traversable water, like rivers).

@@Bakerlovespibb second life i think its a little bit bigger than Australia counting every map (discarding the ones that don't exist anymore) made by the community
There is a way to measure actual map sizes with a navmesh that takes into consideration any "walkable" area "intended by the devs" (yes, it will even count mutiple floors, like vertigo). You can get the result in Hu^2, the master unit of source engine, what GabeN uses to boil his tea. This is how you do it: open a map with sv_cheats 1 nav_generate (if you don't already have a navmesh) nav_edit 1 nav_flood_select (this selects every connected navmesh tile that are accessible from one-another (not perfect, but close enough, it also detects jumps most of the time; It will also output the number of tiles selected in console (that is useless, since tiles are differently sized)) nav_chop_selected (this chops any selected navmesh tiles into equal squares, and will output the number of tiles again. If you figure out how big one of those squares is (in tf2 it's 24Hu*24Hu), then you got your answer in Hu^2) credit: 14bit
The thing I always appreciated about Counter Strike maps versus sprawling open-world maps is how dense and memorable locations feel. Large sprawling maps always tend to feel "samey" to me
to measure the length of gta v you need to set a waypoint any distance that works from you on a straight road so the waypoint is straight, theres a distance meter that measures the distance of the waypoint so you know how long it is when you look at it on the map. then use that to measure the map.
Fun Fact: Running across Altis with the Stamina Simulation disabled would take over 1 Hour and 24 Minutes (from the lower left corner to the upper right) and probally over 2 Hours with Stamina Simulation enabled.

Those maps are nothing compared to Minecraft’s gigantic map

Was waiting for you to mention Arma. I remember when I started the game and, after doing a couple of missions, dropped myself onto Stratis to roam. Wondered how long it would take to get from town A to B. They didn't even look that far, on the SMALL map in the game (though now that's Malden). Shit took me so long I ended up just quitting and spawning a car.
Also, PlanetSide 2 would have been worth mentioning. It's about 8km x 8km per map, so about the size as PUBG. But those maps are all land (or traversable water, like rivers).

"Battleroyale Map Sizes Compared - CS:GO's Blacksite"
**shows Earth at the end**
Humanity really is a battle royale.
You forgot to compare it to the planets in No Man's Sky... Literally unwatchable.
He forgot to compare to TES II: Daggerfall, which held the record as the largest map in a video game for over a decade.
Thanks for making clear, that you were talking about the map and not the country at 1:45. Not to confuse anyone.

What about secondlife? Doesnt that thing go on forever?? I don’t play it so I don’t know
@@Bakerlovespibb second life i think its a little bit bigger than Australia counting every map (discarding the ones that don't exist anymore) made by the community
but they are actually a compilation of a bunch of maps with no connection between them so i wouldn't count it on this list
Actually its 4 times
There is a way to measure actual map sizes with a navmesh that takes into consideration any "walkable" area "intended by the devs" (yes, it will even count mutiple floors, like vertigo). You can get the result in Hu^2, the master unit of source engine, what GabeN uses to boil his tea.
This is how you do it:
open a map with sv_cheats 1
nav_generate (if you don't already have a navmesh)
nav_edit 1
nav_flood_select (this selects every connected navmesh tile that are accessible from one-another (not perfect, but close enough, it also detects jumps most of the time; It will also output the number of tiles selected in console (that is useless, since tiles are differently sized))
nav_chop_selected (this chops any selected navmesh tiles into equal squares, and will output the number of tiles again. If you figure out how big one of those squares is (in tf2 it's 24Hu*24Hu), then you got your answer in Hu^2)

I am sorry but this whole video is inaccurate because you showed a round earth, we all now know it’s actually flat.
You too? Bah. It's so annoying when people think the "Earth" exists...
@@NowanIlfideme Ah, finally another planar magnetic being. Nice to meet you!

Y’all sheeple need to wake up. Gm_earth is a .bsp file. You need to install CS:Source in order to see the missing textures.
No. Its a donut
And Minecraft is more bigger than the Earth.
IDK if this counts but it also has a similar game mode to battle royale.
Yeah but it's a fan made mode, and Minecraft is entirely randomly generated.
Haltroy Minecraft was my shit

Excuse me, but Austria is certainly bigger than Blacksite.

I thought Australia should surely be bigger than Blacksite too - how else would it fit all the spiders?
