She was the one who sings “Remember Me This Way” from “Casper the friendly ghost,” very much like a precursor to Christina Aguilera before Christina Aguilera, blue-eyed soul. Though her take on it was much more pop and a bit whiny in the way most female whites singers whine to show vulnerability, she did some justice to the song. However , Oleta Adam’s timbre perfectly captures the restrained plea in this song, as well her phrasing, in particular in the studio version, where she - instinctively or strategically - skipped a beat before singing “Good” in the line “ cause I really did the best I could, not to dial your number, but it didn’t do much...(pause)...Good. “ Somehow that pause and offbeat entrance into “Good” just evokes feelings of sadness and melancholy.

The song Stand Up from the move Harriet has been on repeat. If anyone hasn’t heard it I highly suggest you do. You will not be disappointed.
