You will have to get the shift interlock replaced, unless something is up with brake pedal switch. Pedal switch probably ok if brake lights come on...unless there is a separate switch. I think that is how they work together.
You will still need to figure out what part is broken. If your brake lights also don’t come on, it is possible that it is your brake pedal switch. (Can’t remember if they have all in one switch, or 2 separate switches. All the best.
This was the problem! Actually, jiggling that switch with the ballpoint pen seemed to loosen it up, and now it's working properly again. I'll take that as a warning sign that i may need to consider replacing the switch. But this bought me some valuable time. Thanks a ton! ... I almost turned off your video as soon as you said, "I'm not going to show you how to fix it [permanently]," because i assumed you were going to say the same thing i kept hearing: disconnect the shifter cable from the transmission and manually change gears from under the hood. (That's not going to work too well if a tractor trailer takes a wide turn and i need to back up and give him space.) Glad i was curious enough to keep watching.Thanks again!!!
There are a couple things that can cause this not to shift or move out of park. With the van running, can you get someone to check if you brake lights come on? If so, It could be a wire to your brake switch or the brake switch it self. (Or it is something mor complicating.)
Not sure why this is not working on your Grand Caravan. Just double checked on my van. Yep, works! Try a pen to push down? Remember, this is not a fix. This is just a way to get you to the repair shop. You might just have to tow it there. Sorry.
I didn't do the video on that part. It is probably the shift interlock solenoid $250 or the shift interlock module $400. I would suggest you have a shop with knowledge on diagnosing this look at it. It could also be a wire going to one of these units, so guessing could be very expensive.
Just used a house key to pry it open and get it into gear to drive home. Saved us from sitting in a heavy thunderstorm. Thank you!

thats a great tip..if you didnt know and got a tow truck, cost could be hundreds for a 30 second fix
Well, this is not the fix, but sure could save some cash & not leave you stranded.
