#17 Gently place the printer on a solid surface, preferably outside. Take a baseball bat and carefully hit the printer until it is no longer recognisable. Dispose of the remains at your local recycling centre. Never buy Epson again.
Marie Desiderio if you have got a chip resetter use that,i have got a sx600fw and when i change my cartridge for a new compatable one sometimes i get that message i just take it out and reset the chip and it works ok,my mate had an r300 printer with your problem not recoqnizing any cartidges i just took all cartridges out 1 at a time and then reset the chips on all his cartridges and they worked ok after that
Mike Hebblethwaite depends on what cartridge your epson uses just do a google for your particular cartridge - the ones i know of are 7 pin and 9 pin chip resetters - you can start from there
Update: I'll be getting a laser printer at some point but in the meantime I dug out an old Cannon i560, which is well over 10 years old. After several nozzle cleans it's now working fine! (And it's been running for several days now without demanding its ink cartidges be changed!)
Here's the problem. We all work hard and pay good money to buy our EPSON PRINTER. We have paid for it, and we own it. Irrespective of whether we decide to use Aftermarket Ink Cartridges, (which all work fine, and cost only 10% of the genuine Epson Ink Cartridge), then Epson decides to fiddle with our printer - by Firmware Updates. I have no proof, but I strongly suspect that Epson could 'disable' everyone's Printer - if they so desired! I ended-up by simply running the "Print Head Clean", and suddenly, the Epson Printer "does not recognise the Ink Cartridge". It will be a cold day in hell before I ever spend good money on anything with the name EPSON. Epson sells a Printer cheaply, but everyone gets ripped-off for the following years, in paying their extortionate prices for Ink Cartridges. All of this is deliberate action to ensure that the 'rivers of cash' keep flowing in Epson's direction. Consider that the amount of ink in an Epson Cartridge is miniscule, approx. 5mL. Please also consider spending your hard-earned money on a Printer that does the job unfailingly. When you find a Printer that can do this, please let me know!
Don't buy Epson printers, the print heads are IN the machine, they clog, you have to throw the machine away. HP printers, the print head is IN the cartridge, it clogs you throw the ink cartridge away. Epson has rigged their machines to detect non-Epson catridges, theirs are horribly expensive, once it recognizes you are using an aftermarket cartridge or refill it will shut down features of your printer. This is a hostile company that makes good printers, but when there's problems you just lost all your money. I'll never buy another Epson in my lifetime.
My previous Epson printer was marvellous with almost no issues. This new one continuous to give random cartridge is not recognized and I've tried 3 different brands of ink even. I change one cartridge then all of a sudden a DIFFERENT cartridge is not recognized!
I have spent almost a full day pulling & replacing the cartridges, doing what everyone suggested here...nothing worked, EXCEPT when I put the old cartridge back in, which is no good empty. Then, after another beer & 420 session, I thought hey, why not take the little pc board off the old one that IS recognized & put it on the 'new' non-recognized cartridge...BINGO!! Worked like a champ 1st try & no trouble since. Hope it works for you.SEMPER FI
+Bill Davis good idea bill .. !! just wondering if i can transfer the ink from the new one thats been rejected.. as the one whose chip i need to replace is empty!
Epson look! third party manufacturers are now benefiting on making refillable cartridges. You should be the one to make this refillable cartridges. Don't be greedy too much, You're selling very expensive ink cartridges
Here's what WORKED for me --! 1) After opening the printer cartridge port FIRST, power down the Printer (per step #1) for 10 minutes! 2) Unplug the R380 from your power strip 2) remove and DISCHARGE both ends of the USB cable that connects the printer to your computer 4) clean the contacts on the microchip on the printer cartridge AND the cartridge port it slides into with an isopropyl alcohol pad or cotton swab/Q-tip/tissue paper dipped into isopropyl alcohol. I'd clean the contacts TWICE on both ends (ink cartridge and the ink cartridge slot of the printer), let the ink cartridge dry, and then reinsert the cartridge into the cartridge slot of the printer. Took me about 20-40 minutes to trouble-shoot! Along the way, I discovered (from spent cartridges I haven't recycled yet!) that Epson changed the microchip design on the ink cartridges. The newer print cartridges have a longer chip design and are incompatible with the old-style cartridges! The new chip may be causing incompatibility issues along with everyone's tendency to keep the power on constantly! We should all probably unplug ALL our computer hardware once a year. Yes, your printer is STILL getting some power from the power strip IF the power strip itself is still on -- regardless of whether the power button of the printer itself is "On" or "Off"! I've had problems with high-speed modems acting up after extreme weather (FREEZING cold like we've experienced in the last week) because of electrical issues. Those issues were resolved by unplugging and discharging the hardware before reconnecting it and powering it up again. I suspect something like that might have happened with my printer, too. Of course, it's an old Epson R380 dating back to at least 2006/2007. Today has been the most maintence I've done on the printer in 20 years! So, what's the lesson here, kiddies? DON'T GIVE EPSON OUR MONEY IF THEY'RE GONNA F US ALL OVER LIKE THIS!!!! The next printer I get is NOT gonna be Epson. Probably not a Canon, Dell, or HP model if I can help it, too.
#17. Return it. Try another brand. I returned a brand new XP-820 that wouldn't recognize its initialization cartridges and bought a Canon that is working flawlessly. By flawlessly, I mean it actually recognizes its cartridges and prints things. What a concept!
Do not purchase Epson unless you plan to always have a stock of all the cartridges at hand. Epson is updating all their firmware to block printing if any of the cartridges run out of ink. So, lets say you have a full black cartridge and want to print black and white, Epson will block your printing if any of the other color cartridges are empty or missing.
This is exactly what I'm experiencing. Full black cartridge. But the colour one ran out. Shouldn't matter because I'm only printing text. Even when I check the ink levels, it recognises the full black ink cartridge. i just want to use the black cartridge. But because the colour one has run out it won't let me use the black ink cartridge. I feel so ripped-off. Never buying Epson again. Will take a baseball bat to this piece of junk and throw it in the recycling.
But the printer I have wouldn't even recognize EPSON cartridges purchased at Office Depot in Epson's excitement about being Bill Gates screwing the Public.
@@cynthiawilliams2729 All the printer manufacturers are as bad as each other. I've owned HP. Epson and Canon printers, and all of them have been consistently problematic.
I wish to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your useful advice, you present it clearly and with extreme patience and detail. I tried a couple of methods before I hit on the one using an alcohol-dampened rag to clean the chips.... AMAZING!!! The only thing that I did differently was unplugging the unit from the wall and waiting overnight before going through the "Remove and replace cartridges" Epson Guide instructions again.. Lo and Behold! the printer recognized my ink cartridges . . Did I say Thank You already? Well, thank you one more time.
This video was helpful. I cleaned the cartridges as suggested as well as the inserts where the cartridges need to be placed. I unplugged and replugged and have now turned it off for an hour. I have bought I cannot tell you how many replacement cartridges and none seemed compatible although, this issue just started a couple of months ago. I think the amount of cartridges has cost more than the actual printer. I believe EPSON and I are done. Any suggestions on printers that work!!??
Please spread the word for everyone NOT to buy an Epson printer. It will save other persons from ending up with a depression. Im having all the cartridge problems as described below, and furthermore it keeps losing wifi connection, the software says ''connect with a cable if you're experiencing problems'' WELL THERE IS NO FUCKING CONNECTION TO PUT A CABLE IN ANYWAY
READ CAREFULLY: This is pretty simple because I was going through the same problem. If the printer does not recognized the bootleg cartridge just press the (C)clear button on printer to the right, then the screen will pop up and literally tell you that using a non Epson ink can damage print cartridge head, blah. blah , blah, liars. just continue and the screen will disappear. Now I do advise you to do all the little maintenance on the other screen like print head cleaning, nozzle cleaning and alignment, ink cleaning because this is actually good for the printer life spam, and the printer won't keep bugging out. PS: just a little time consuming, When printing the screen will pop up again to say "you did not install Epson genuine ink cartridge," just click continue. Yeah I know.
I've had Epson Printers for since the 90's. My current printer is 3 years old and works great and gives me exceptional quailty prints. However the new Epson OEM cartridges are really poor quality, low on ink and outrageously expensive. Half the time new cartridges cannot be recognized by the printer - the other half they will be recognized. Some times the cart will work for 10-15 pages and then not be recognized. I've had it in to the Epson repair center and it comes back with a clean bill of health. I've tried all these steps and the problem still happens. The issue is Epson's ink manager and their attempt keep customers from purchasing after market inks. If I could find some way to shut down this hardware I would jump on it - it's been out of warranty for a while now anyway.
this video should be called: 16 ways an Epson printer can show you its poorly built quality printers; annoy the hell out of you and make you regret not having bought another printer in the first place.
I appreciate the information that was given. In my case, the printer started being a little messy, leaving some streaks on that paper. The troubleshooter suggested changing the ink. At that time, the yellow ink and the black ink both showed they needed changing. SO...the problem is with 2 newly replaced cartridges. I love my printer, and I have a ton of ink right now, so I really do not want to just get a new printer. For my work, I really need to fix it as soon as I can. Please help if you have any more ideas. Right now, I am going to unplug it and wait a while. I do remember that quite a while ago this happened and I figured out what to do, but so far no luck now. Sincerely, Linda Heydt
NX400 bought used. I'm guessing the previous owner knew about the problem, but got it working long enough to sell it to me. OEM Epson tanks, it stopped recognizing cyan and magenta. I got aftermarket tanks, now it doesn't recognize cyan and black, but it sees the magenta and yellow. All the contact wires seem to be present and not bent. Cleaned the contact wires and the contacts on the cartridges, no change.
Once upon a time , things were made to last at a reasonable cost. Now it's just about cost (Too you) as soon as the thing comes out of the box. The Box itself being the largest investment on the part of the provider...
My first AND LAST Epson ever! This piece of junk is going in the garbage because I've had it up to here with the cartridge not being recognized bullshit!
The deal is this: I'm sure it's still the same... Years ago I dumped HP printers for the same reason. I think they were the first to 'chip' their ink cartridges. The short story is this. The second year after this action, the HP printer INK division was responsible for about 98% of the profits for HP. The printer is the dish in the box of soap. You're locked in to the INK. When I did the math, HP ink was selling for just under $900.00 a gallon. So I've found that today, all these HELP files DON'T work - my WIN 10 tabs don't even show a rollback back for the printer driver - so if you're using Epson, just grab your ankles when you bend over. I've used them since I dumped HP - the ONLY reason I've kept the Epson is that it is a WF and has a scanner. OH - and my printer worked fine until I turned it off for 3 weeks during a vacation. So now I'm pissed all over again. I'll use my laser while I begin the search to dump the Epson -- and give it a proper send off over a cliff.
Turn the printer off for 10 mins....turn the printer off for 1 hour? What in god's name is that all about? When I pay good money for kit then I expect it to work. When I buy kit from a company that has been around forever I EXPECT IT TO WORK. I do not want to be sitting around while printers take a holiday. Epson sucks. You can buy a printer for the cost of two sets of cartridge replacements. How this company has lasted so log is beyond me.
I can't understand why 10 minutes, or an hour. I mean what the hell is going on inside an Epson. Are we waiting for the gremlins to go to sleep or something.
No on black T-shirts, I did suck now from the bottom, now half way ok, white is printing but lite, is there any thing els, we can do to get good picture printing?
I think it's not a cartridge problem but a print head problem. Try this cleaning method: Stampanti Epson: Pulizia ugelli della testina intasati - Epson clogged printhead problem solving
There is not mentioned that in some printer models user have to go through printer's control panel, maintenance settings, change cartridges, and go ahead to the ink cartridge changing procedure. Otherwise the new cartridges are never recogniced.
Just came across this comment. My printer is doing just that. I ignored it and proceeded to instar the new cartilage. And know it’s not recognizing it. How do I do it ?
@@teresagarduno9902 You have to find settings, press Ok, and scroll down until there appears: maintenance, press Ok, and then scroll until appears: change cartridges, press Ok, and go ahead to the ink cartridge changing procedure. During this the inkhead moves to the changing position that is good sign that you are on the right track.
Try telling a retailer that there is a problem with a cartridge. You will be able to hear the laughter from space. Also this bloke is suggesting switching off for an hour and then replacing all the cartridges with genuine cartridges. Is he a millionaire?
I'm using comaptible cartridges, not real epson brand and kept getting the not recognised error messages. I have been using these cheaper brand cartridges for years without problems until changing them today. I tried the turning on /off, taking cartridge out/wiping chip/ restarting , nothing worked. then i pressed down really hard on the tops of the cartridges after inserting them for a few seconds and that worked.
Thank you Debbie, I was pulling my hair out until I tried your method. A really hard push did the trick. Thank you, thank you!! Hope I remember this technique
Fantastic, I was going mad, it was recognising a colour and not another, then viceversa. Then after reading your comment I pushed really hard and heard another click, I thought "ok now I broke it" and then the light went off and all the cartridges were recognised :D Thanksssssss!
Giovanna Buono Yep, worked for me too. Press hard where the sticker rather helpfuly says "press"; only mean it. Think CPR for printers. Great tip, thank you.
yep my husband bought me this printer "it was only 60$ " he says...THE FUCKING CARTRIDGES ARE 60$! and I went and bought a LEGIT epson black cartridge and it WONT WORK! ass holes! I NOW literally send my shit via email to the local copy shop...
Two epson 200 print cartridges have the tape that you pull off and it seems to be just tearing, i used to just pull up and the tape would pull directly out the two i used seem to be tearing without opening the area they are designed to cover. The hole at the bottom of the cartridge is pierced and it is not working
Thanks for the video. I have an epson sx425w and i have spent an afternoon trying to fix this. It has not recognised the black cartrige. I have just installed 4 compatible ones and none are now recognised. Ive have ordered some new compatible cartriges and if these do not work i will take this printer to the dump and get a new one from another company as i refuse to pay for rip off genuin cartriges.
Hello, I have the SX130 and besides having issues with the compatable's, it's now not taking the paper in. It tries a few time but no paper get pulled down. Do you have a fix for this? Thanks for the upload!
Lorraine Clarke First of all you might want to try a great alternative for your in go to CCIS "inksystems" I got this system on my printer and I have stopped worrying about ink cartridges. As for the paper try what "viandant" told you to do. Hope I was of some help.
The video was good but I will never buy another Epson printer or anything else. I changed the black cartridge. The blue one was half full, now is not being recognized. Have not been able to print one page. If was fine. This printer has just been a royal pain since it was new. Every time I use it there is something else that is wrong. No more Epson anhything.
hello, can i please know what to do if my hp deskjet 2131 all in one printer not accepting ink cartridges even i have replaced it to new one. Please give me answer fast.
Never mind all that. I smashed my Epson to bits with a hammer because it wouldn't even recognize the ink that shipped with it. I just got another one given and that won't recognize it's ink either. Where's my hammer!
Hello,Iv got problems with my epson xp630 cartriges 1out of 3 cartriges is recognised but other 2 are not Iv tried all the steps from your vid but no results...do you have any other advise?
THE ANSWER: I've used generic replacement carts in my workforce 545 since my first ink ran out. I refill the generic ones and have never replaced them. Sometimes I get the "unrecognized" error when I remove a cart to refill it. It may cause an error in the colored carts even if I only remove the black one. What I do is use a paperclip to reset the cartridge that has the error. Do this by looking at the face of the cartridge with the metal contacts on it. There should be two gold dots side by side. Use the paperclip to connect the dots for five seconds. (If there are more sets of dots, try connecting other sets of dots with the paperclip.) Replace the cartridge. This works about 75% of the time. If it doesn't work, I assume I did it wrong. Sometimes I get an error on a different ink cartridge. I try again, and again until the errors go away. I hope this works for you! Good luck
I agree with the previous comment. I could not get past printing the test pages. Bought replacement cartridges but still won't print. I just use it for a scanner now and print docs at Officeworks.

hi . l like your videos . can you please help me solve my hp printer 2515 deskjet ... the printer can not recognise acartridge after my secend black ink filling by injuction . regards
I will never buy any Epson or Lexmark ever again. Epson destroyed the reliability because they were soooooo worried about people not buying Their ink. Lexmark I had to buy a new cart everytime I wanted to print something because they dry out in a week if you dont print everyday.
Here is a possible solution. 1. Do take your cartridges out and set them aside. 2. Shut your printer off. 3. About 10 minutes later go back and turn your printer on. It will read “Cartridges not found” 4. Place your cartridges in there; wait until the printer gets done-about 4 minutes. You should be good to go-even with cheaper ink. Good Luck!
Hi viandant5, I got this problem but I failed. I got the Epson 2200 Photo Stylus printer. It's now is a headache for me. I've been trying everything that I learned all of my life but I'm still struggling to deal with it.
Hi viandant5, yes. I'm using Epson's ink cartridges only but I didn't try using another brand. I think it's time to upgrade to the new tech, lol. Thank you so much dear
any thoughts on what might be the issue if it stops printing half way through an image and claims a cartridge is incompatible? printed about 100 photos over the course of the day, nothing new about them, still plenty of ink, and all of a sudden it stopped working :(
the print heads on epsons are on the printer and not the cartridge therefore they dont want you running the printer with empty cartridges otherwise the print heads on the printer dry out and you get streaky or no image on certain colours - thats why you should print a nozzle check once a week to stop the nozzles drying out - if you want to get full use out of your cartridge just buy a chip resetter and when you get low ink message just reset that cartridge and reset it then when you put it back in it will register as full , but you run the risk of the ink running out on that cartridge and your nozzles drying out then you will get poor prints unless you clean the nozzles with cleaning fluid cos the clean nozzles function on the printer very rarely works and just wastes ink and you run the risk of damaging your print head nozzles on the printer
#6 did it for me, i bought the wrong cartridge. They looked the same at the store, it fit into the slot but dang, it was the wrong number for my printer. And i don't have the receipt. ugh
I ended up getting a Canon ink jet, that for $98 prints way better quality than my $400 Epson Workforce ever did. The print heads are removable and can be cleaned with a garden hose.
The word "Epson" could well be added to the dictionary as "1. Up-Yours"-We already have your wallet..." "2. Giving the finger to life... - actually there are no words to describe such treasonous traitors as those who choose to work for (or with) such a croporate structure as Ep-[shits]-on us all. Much sympathy to the workers who must puch that clock. Mindful of when the brand finally dies, Epson will likely market itself under a different name with the same intentions of it's (apparently sociopathic) execs who obviously place their quest for $s above all of humanity. Unfortunately, the nonsense only stops when such people (lacking any sense of personal responsibility) are all alone with a boatload of money and no air to breathe...Sad fact :(
Does anyone know how to get past initial cartridges being put in after initialization has already been done. i.e. putting in brand new initial cartridges and making them work??
probably it's a printhead problem, not a cartridge problem. try some cleaning procedures, or search in this channel "Epson clogged printhead problem solving" and try that method.
Great post - I gave up using "Genuine Epson" cartridges a long time ago - The cost is stupid and rediculous - I got an Epson Stylus Photo R1800 when I was studying Graphic Design in college and doing freelance work - Excellent printer - BUT Epson is a real bitch when it comes to using thier own inks. I started using Third Party inks because a full set of the 8 cartridges mine takes costs anywhere from $120.00 - $150.00 US - I can get a full set of third party inks anywhere from $10 - $50 US - sadly the risk is that these inks aren't always recognized or they go "empty" when there's clearly LOTS of ink left. I understand Epson is simply trying to protect their intellectual property and make even more money, but for what I paid for a high end printer (at that time) I think they must make enough from selling the actual printers themselves. It would be nice if they'd allow third party inks. I mean if you think about someone running a printing press like a heidelberg or whatever, they don't force you to use their inks too. I've read about chip resetters too but I'm going to check to see if the pins on the carriage are bent
thanxs for posting this video . this video very very very very useful . thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you
My brand new Epson XP-820 does not recognize any of the 5 cartridges that came with the printer. Customer Service is sending 5 new ones. They said the 5 new ones are for initialization. I asked "wouldn't you think that the 5 that came with it would be right for initialization?" That question wasn't in their script. I am regretting buying Epson and will consider returning...I don't think Epson cares.
I tried this and every other suggestion I could find. Nothing worked! ( I did this for over an hour!!) So, I thought I would just take the yellow ink out of the one that did not work and put it in the one that did. drilled two holes and couldn't get to the ink. Then I thought before I totally ruin the new full cartridge, why don't I try to switch the chips? The bad one slipped right off with an exacto knife. Then I took the good one off, and of course one of the gold flecky things fell off and I couldn't find it anywhere in my stupid bathroom sink. Whatever! I knew I had one more old yellow cartridge but I thought, why not try it first and see if it works. Lo, and behold, it worked! You have got to be kidding me? The funny thing is, I didn't even clean the chip off! The oil from my fingerprints all over it, and it still worked. My advice; don't throw away any of your empty cartridges!!! The Lord works in mysterious ways. He certainly has a sense of humor! LOL!
mY WF2530 WILL NOT BUDGE WHEN i INSTALL NON-OEM INK.THIS IS THE 2ND COMPANY I PURCHASED FROM. WHY DO COMPANIES MANUFACTURE THIS INK IF THEY DON'T WORK? There must be a way? Any suggestions?, cause you are right. The OEMs are ridiculously expensive.
I tried this without success not to mention wrestling for a couple of hours with different random experiments - all the time either getting the red and blue empty cartridge error message or paper jam error, for some reason I eventually decided to remove all four cartridges then replaced them left to right ... unexpected but totally effective cure, hope this helps someone
Epsom xp8500 refused to recognise cartridge , keep on with it as after so many times it will accept it . I’ve had to change 3 cartridges today all exactly the same
I solved it. I bought a HP Deskjet. I'll never use Epson products again. I had a large format one too. I had to replace the printhead. Now the 3rd party ink thing. It was cheaper to buy another printer. DONE!
I bought big packages, but one blue color and one black ink were not in original package they could have been from returned ones and they sold them to me ,they are working at all
A friend gave me his older Epson printer. I didn't realize I had to replace the ink cartridges with Epson Ink cartridges. After trying to install cartridges I bought o Amazon that would not work in the printer because they were chipped, I threw the printer in the garbage and bought one that won't cost a fortune to operate.
I am using a Epson printer Tx121, now I am facing a problem with this. I had change Cyan, Magenta & black cartridge due to low label of ink. After replacing those cartridges printer does not recognize the cyan cartridge. After showing this problem I had try with the old cyan cartridge but showing the same error. After replacing the cyan cartridge when I am pressing the ink bottom the cartridge slot moving to the left side of the printer and stop moving for 2-minutes & 12-seconds. after 2-m & 12-s the printer head come to the right side and indicate the ink red light still now. Please give me a quick solution to solve this problem.
their SX125 is rather sneaky, it has a slot about 15mm wide that you remove the cartridges through, the only way to get them out is to press that red triangle button and it moves the one that it's not recognizing the the slot, stopping you from getting to the others!! those printer companies are crafty buggers! hahaha
if all red lights flash then take out all cartridges and replace them making sure they CLICK into place firmly. I did this and the printer stylus DX4450 printed more than half of the photostat and then stopped all lights flashing again! I Repeated the same process making sure they were firmly in and this time it printed full page ok. i therefore deduce that during the vibration caused when printing thaat the cartridges might be becoming disconnected so make sure you press home very firmly and consider that this is where the problem may be. I also tried at one point disconnecting mains and USB then held down stopbutton whilst reconnecting mains and still held down stop button not sure but might also be responsible worth a try/experiment

"Warning: Driver update may prevent you from using a compatible cartridge". Why does this message not appear before installing the updates you send us? Besides, I am using the original Epson cartridge refilled. It is the non-Epson ink that they don't want us use. Now my printer is completely disabled, even they have disabled the menu. I had this problem about 20 min ago. My Epson printed a page but some of the wording wasn't completely printed. I ran a head cleaning and nozzle check, nozzle check went fine and printed, the head cleaning then suddenly said it couldn't recognize my black cartridge. I've had other issue with this Epson POS printer from day one, not sure I'm willing to go through all of this, I already tried some of it. Getting real close to just buying a new printer, after 3 years I've had it Every single time I go to print something I have to do a nozzle check and head cleaning or else it won't print, been doing this since it was about a few months old.....it's days are numbered.
printrt does ot recognize all cartridges. tried to update software but cold not find software to update in the printer, how can i solve this problem. believe it is a software problem
Epson has a bad reputation with its printers and especially its ink cartridges.......coded [chipped ] to be complicated, it becomes useless to the ordinary person, wanting to do a minor fix on it I recently had to clean the heads, after turning the printer back on then power would turn off for no reason after 20-30 seconds when turned on?.....Updated software, and this seemed to fix it.......I ALMOST took to the HAMMER but didn't, almost though! I willl NEVER buy another EPSON...Cannon here I come.....
The chip version of the cartridge is not compatible with the printer driver. Epson update the driver to create problems to compatible cartridges, and sometimes it happens that even the original cartridges have problems
#17 Gently place the printer on a solid surface, preferably outside. Take a baseball bat and carefully hit the printer until it is no longer recognisable. Dispose of the remains at your local recycling centre. Never buy Epson again.

There was actually a class-action lawsuit about this in CA, but it was withdrawn.
@@KimPhillipsLucidGal: Any idea why it was "withdrawn"?
I had the choice, buying a house or genuine Epson ink cartridges...
I change one cartridge then all of a sudden a DIFFERENT cartridge is not recognized!
snmp network hacks control everything, diagnostic memory clean from the namebrand website will do the trick.
Same. Never again. And their customer service sucks too.
How would you take the chips off?
+Ashley Baca the chip is only glued, or cut its tabs
+viandant5 yes!! It worked! I had thought of doing that before I came to TH-cam but I wasn't sure if I could take off the chips
+Bill Davis good idea bill .. !! just wondering if i can transfer the ink from the new one thats been rejected.. as the one whose chip i need to replace is empty!
+Ann Capistrano may be I don't understand, but a spent chip from an old cartridge will not work even if you transfer it on a new cartridge.
This needs a first class lawyer to take action. It has to be illegal to send you an update simply to block your printer from accepting other ink...
Yep.... after I updated it won't recognize the ink now
Epson look! third party manufacturers are now benefiting on making refillable cartridges. You should be the one to make this refillable cartridges. Don't be greedy too much, You're selling very expensive ink cartridges
Here's what WORKED for me --!
1) After opening the printer cartridge port FIRST, power down the Printer (per step #1) for 10 minutes!
2) Unplug the R380 from your power strip
2) remove and DISCHARGE both ends of the USB cable that connects the printer to your computer
4) clean the contacts on the microchip on the printer cartridge AND the cartridge port it slides into with an isopropyl alcohol pad or cotton swab/Q-tip/tissue paper dipped into isopropyl alcohol.
In my experience, Canons have feeder issues.
Awe dang :(
This is exactly what I'm experiencing.
EPSON CAN ROT ~ I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER EPSON ANYTHING AND WILL BUY ANOTHER PRINTER BEFORE I GET REAMED WITH THEIR INK PRICES~

Any suggestions on printers that work!!??
in my opinion, currently the best are Canon printers.
This company should be cast into the pit of hell.

There's many of us with the same roblem - but EPSON never says anygthng!
I will never ever buy any Epson product again.
Doesn't work any more. Looks like they've added a new blocking thing
Sincerely,
Linda Heydt
Changing the ink I think will not solve the problem, the ink cartridges are only containers. I think the problem could be the print-head
This piece of junk is going in the
garbage because I've had it up to here with the cartridge not being
recognized bullshit!
Try this cleaning method:

Omg that worked!!!
Debbie Leyshon sorry that fails too...
yep my husband bought me this printer "it was only 60$ " he says...THE FUCKING CARTRIDGES ARE 60$! and I went and bought a LEGIT epson black cartridge and it WONT WORK! ass holes! I NOW literally send my shit via email to the local copy shop...
Two epson 200 print cartridges have the tape that you pull off and it seems to be just tearing, i used to just pull up and the tape would pull directly out the two i used seem to be tearing without opening the area they are designed to cover. The hole at the bottom of the cartridge is pierced and it is not working
tge tape on the bottom of the cartridge must be pierced. remove the tape, insert the ink cartridge and never remove the cartridge unless necessary

THANK YOU BROTHER PRINTER

I will never buy any Epson or Lexmark ever again. Epson destroyed the reliability because they were soooooo worried about people not buying Their ink. Lexmark I had to buy a new cart everytime I wanted to print something because they dry out in a week if you dont print everyday.
A printer that not used is a useless printer - or a paperweight.
Here is a possible solution.
1. Do take your cartridges out and set them aside.
2. Shut your printer off.
3. About 10 minutes later go back and turn your printer on.
It will read “Cartridges not found”
4. Place your cartridges in there; wait until the printer gets done-about 4 minutes.
You should be good to go-even with cheaper ink.
Good Luck!
Tried that. Nothing worked.
Hi viandant5, I got this problem but I failed. I got the Epson 2200 Photo Stylus printer. It's now is a headache for me. I've been trying everything that I learned all of my life but I'm still struggling to deal with it.
Are you using compatible cartridges? Did you try another brand?
Hi viandant5, yes. I'm using Epson's ink cartridges only but I didn't try using another brand. I think it's time to upgrade to the new tech, lol. Thank you so much dear
This was very good.
any thoughts on what might be the issue if it stops printing half way through an image and claims a cartridge is incompatible? printed about 100 photos over the course of the day, nothing new about them, still plenty of ink, and all of a sudden it stopped working :(
the cartridge chip, after some hundreds of copies send the empty message to the printer, not important if there is still ink or not.
the print heads on epsons are on the printer and not the cartridge therefore they dont want you running the printer with empty cartridges otherwise the print heads on the printer dry out and you get streaky or no image on certain colours - thats why you should print a nozzle check once a week to stop the nozzles drying out - if you want to get full use out of your cartridge just buy a chip resetter and when you get low ink message just reset that cartridge and reset it then when you put it back in it will register as full , but you run the risk of the ink running out on that cartridge and your nozzles drying out then you will get poor prints unless you clean the nozzles with cleaning fluid cos the clean nozzles function on the printer very rarely works and just wastes ink and you run the risk of damaging your print head nozzles on the printer

My advice; don't throw away any of your empty cartridges!!!

what did you move?
I solved it. I bought a HP Deskjet. I'll never use Epson products again. I had a large format one too. I had to replace the printhead. Now the 3rd party ink thing. It was cheaper to buy another printer. DONE!
I bought big packages, but one blue color and one black ink were not in original package they could have been from returned ones and they sold them to me ,they are working at all
Can't you send them back?
how to place cartridges
Don't buy Epson EVER!
What is the music title that you used in this video?
I reviewed this video and instead of doing everything beginning with step 1, I just unplugged the printer for 2 hours. Problem solved.
Thank you so much. You helped me a lot
Please give me a quick solution to solve this problem.
try change all cartridges
I had replace with previews cartridges(Original EPSON 73N Cartridge), but the results is same. How can I reset the printer?
buntyunlimited the only way to reset the printer is to disconnect the electric cable for some hours. therre are no reset procedures
The only solution I've found for this problem is to buy another printer. :(
their SX125 is rather sneaky, it has a slot about 15mm wide that you remove the cartridges through, the only way to get them out is to press that red triangle button and it moves the one that it's not recognizing the the slot, stopping you from getting to the others!! those printer companies are crafty buggers! hahaha
if all red lights flash then take out all cartridges and replace them making sure they CLICK into place firmly.
I also tried at one point disconnecting mains and USB then held down stopbutton whilst reconnecting mains and still held down stop button not sure but might also be responsible worth a try/experiment
buen dia, una impresora epson t42wd con sistema continuo de tinta, el chip anda solamente hasta sacarlo por primer vez, luego no funciona mas, no reconoce chip. a que se debe?
good day, t42wd Epson printer with continuous ink system , the chip goes only as far out for the first time , but then does not work , does not recognize chip. for what is this? tw
+DIEGO TAVERNA the chip is a page counter, so it stop after a certain number of copies. contact who sell you the CIS, probably he has a solution
No choice given unless I go and buy one of their cartridges or dump the printer!
Thanks so much for this video! After viewing it and trying a couple of your suggestions I was able to get my printer working again!
Just had an update and now it won't recognize the ink I got from Walmart...wtf.
Epson updates are made mainly to destroy compatible cartridges
I found the solution. Screamed loudly and smashed printer to bits. I now have an incompatible Printer! Duh.
great banter.
Thank you so much it helped me alot!!
I think it's not a driver problem. probably the version of the chip of the cartridges you are using is too old or not compatible with your PC.
Tom Hoehler
right
Epson has a bad reputation with its printers and especially its ink cartridges.......coded [chipped ] to be complicated, it becomes useless to the ordinary person, wanting to do a minor fix on it
I recently had to clean the heads, after turning the printer back on then power would turn off for no reason after 20-30 seconds when turned on?.....Updated software, and this seemed to fix it.......I ALMOST took to the HAMMER but didn't, almost though!
I willl NEVER buy another EPSON...Cannon here I come.....

I've tried eevrything, but it will not print, nor will the red light go off!
The chip version of the cartridge is not compatible with the printer driver. Epson update the driver to create problems to compatible cartridges, and sometimes it happens that even the original cartridges have problems
Dear Sir, Its help full to set the mind first and then the cartridges problem Thanks for the Act of kindness Rohtash Singh
