Dyno run of 98 Mazda Protege with 1.5L DOHC Z5 motor. Modifications include CAI, Mazdaspeed CBE, Walbro 255lph fuel pump, and tuned with Greddy eManage Ultimate. 83hp 88tq
The car is rated at 92hp at the flywheel. A dyno measures power at the wheels, so it doesn't factor in drivetrain losses. If you were to add in the 15% drivetrain loss it would have 95.5hp at the flywheel at the time in this video. Also remember the car has 300,000km on it
got actualy same car euro model. the Z5 is a small engine, but runs good. mine as done soon 250.000km and still goes 183km/h whitout any modifacations :) just need to take good care ;)
I've got a 96 with the 1.5, not exactly a quick car, but gets where you want it to go, more reliable than good for performance, quite durable too. I've never had any starting problems with mine aside from once when the starter cable rotted. They just have a lot of problems with the altinators.
lol yes this is the cars true horsepower The year this dyno was taken the car came in first place, in Touring 3 (the slowest Ontario Solosprint class). It was also came in 4th place overall for 2007. If the power/weight ratio changed beyond what it was, it would have been classed higher and done far worse than it did.
haha the swap harness or the emanage patch harness? If you have a 97-98 Z5 I can make you a plug-n-play kit with the emanage patch harness, set the jumpers, and even load my fuel/timing maps on. Then you just plug the unit in, make sure you run 94 octane fuel, and than it'll be the same setup as my car :)
Nice protege, but these bad boys aren't made for tuning, well at least the 1.5 L. I also have a 1.5 l 1995 protege but i know that if i go the tuning route, im def gonna do an engine swap, but nice dyno run
Not really, I also have an ES Protege with the 122hp 1.8L BP engine. After driving both back to back, its very obvious how slow the Z5 is. I've also run it down the 1/4 mile, as well as been on the track with many types of cars, and its usually the slowest accelerating car there.
Slow?: yes Economical?: yes [but right now mine is eating up gas. Trinidad & Tobago traffic] Can it fit a 324lb guy: Ohhhhh yes Can it fit four other guys LIKE me: Ohhhhhhh yes 1997 special edition 323f 3EAT Auto trans w/ manual mode [very handy with hills]
I have a 1.8L 97....I just love it..simply because its reliable....it started in -40 whether without any plug ins....

I have the EXACT same car. Same color, too.

I have a 1998 Mazda 1.5l mazda 5 speed standard transmission. It is a quick little car

Needs boost. Z5 responds very well to boost. 300whp max on stock internals.
I remember that motor :P GO BP!!!! Bye Z5 :D. Great job Pidgeon
Im shocked the mounts are stil intact, with all of this power!
Its the little one that could!

there is a restrictor in the exhaust that needs to be removed to make more power its just behind the first resonator
Well at the flywheel the 1.5L is rated at 92hp, but on a dyno it only registers as 83hp. On a dyno, the 1.8L would show about 115hp
@angelosdavos It could.but it would be pure chaos to put that beast in!

That must be quite the fancy intake to give you 19 horsepower..
Fury.

Yo tengo un Protegé LX 1996 y es muy bueno y económico, aunque con la transmisión automática no es muy rápido que digamos.

I don't operate the dyno facility, I just brought the car there. I believe it is $85.00/hr
btw - if you guys see my other videos, there are a bunch of videos of this car on a race track
H&R makes lowering springs for the car
i agree because i have one it hits 80 in third and over 100 in 4th but in 5th its not able to stay over 100

I have a protege 1998 1.5 dohc se ho much HP did have
how much it cost to get all of that customs done
question: i have 98 protege lx 1.5 could i swap it with the 1.8? and would i require any mods to do it?
i wish mine was the 1.8l mine was a 5 speed but the fuckers before me took it out lol no idea why
did they sell the 1.5 in the U.S.?
does that motor have a problem?
about the same as this, maybe less torque
haha of course its slow, it actually pulls for a 1.5 mazda with 92hp, when i have my car packed it pulls slow as shit though haha
Yeah ikr , i have a 1.6 and it lives up to mazdas slogan ... zoom zoom
haha the cars slow as balls. But it races in a slow class. I had to do the dyno run to prove that it only had very little power
He's good, but I'm pretty sure he can't telepathically dyno your car.
Bad tuning bro, this engine should have 88hp at stock no mods. haha
LOL! if i only had time to waste like that guy in the protege.. SMH
lol dont wanna hurt anyone's feelings here but is this a joke?
