I found this is the best explanation I've seen - the diagrams in particular helped me , I also want to thank you for your recent video on attaching lead shot - I have struggled with shotting floats for years - main issue being moving shot to change pattern - your tips on fixing , moving the shot then discarding the last bit of line , solved my problems - and I actually enjoy shotting up now -thanks !.
With summer coming we have a whole season of fishing to enjoy, lets hope for a good year. Thanks Dan I really appreciate your comment and the best of luck.
This man sounds and knows what he is going . Great tutorial, one with many interesting specifics. River fishing is a difficult sport to master and takes years of practice I'm still figuring it out at 48 . Thank you. 👍
Am going out stick float fishing tomorrow, kind of for the first time. I have done it before but not properly. This video is excellent and has given me so much information and confidence to try it tomorrow!!
Excellent, another clear cut lesson/tutorial that I will take on board and watch again and again. They really are fantastic videos you produce no bull, stupid loud music or blatant advertising of tackle. A big thanks
Returning to angling after many years away. Reason for returning was mainly due to my son expressing an interest, so borrowed some kit and took him a few times to a local stillwater where we landed some roach, rudd, perch, and of course a few gudgeon too :-) . He loved it, and I had forgotten how much fun it can be. Some great videos uploaded to this channel. I especially like the longer and more technical ones explaining the use of stick and waggler floats, as well as the significance of the tell tale shot. Thanks! Now have more confidence in achieving good results going forward when I purchase ourselves some tackle of our own. Please keep the videos coming.
will you be doing a video on using a centre pin casting the amount of line loading the reel . as there is little of it around and using a pin is tricky even for we anglers that fish with them a lot . for example loading line from the top is better in windy conditions . but for casting and batting line back in . line coming of the bottom is better ext ext
As most of us probably did I started out float fishing and over time moved to more leger and feeder tactics, targeting larger fish. Recently I took a float rod, some bread and a pint of maggots with me to the river and rediscovered the fun of using a simple float setup, 4lb line, a 2lb hooklength and a size 18 hook. Initially feeding some balled up bread&maggots and then little and often with maggots, I had constant bites, multiple good sized dace and small chub. Typically fishing with static hair rigged baits, boilies, meat, pellets etc I'd forgotten how enjoyable this type of fishing can be.
A very good instructional video, one of the best I have seen on stick float fishing. I am going to try what I have learned at Winkton on the Hampshire Avon this weekend.
This has to be the most informative Video on Stick float fishing, saved me hours trying to tell folks, i send them to this video instead :), Brilliant Video Sir, a big thumbs up
Very well explained! Will be trying this soon when river condition is right not done it for years ,will make a change from fishing the carp puddles lol
Awesome video, loads of info I've missed in the past and never thought of, thanks. I am after a centre pin reel and rod myself can you recommend any please
Mostly I use a light 13 foot float rod with a line rating of 1 to 4lb, but I do quite a bit of Roach fishing, you may need something different. A 4.5 inch reel with a 1 inch wide drum should be fine for long trotting and general river fishing.
I have watched your explanation about float fishing. Would you be so kind to mention the three types of floats you mentioned in the video and so that I can buy them in Holland thank you very much. Have a good Christmas.
I really appreciate your prompt response and you should know that I am watching each and every one of your videos. If you allow me a suggestion, it would be good if you could say the components of your equipment that you use in each of your videos because it would help us fishermen who do not have experience a lot. Thanks again
here in the states we don't feed the swim and that could be the reason why our catch ratio is low on our day sessions ...will have to remember to feed the swim when I get out on the river with me new centre pin
Another excellent video. If you put the stick rig on a winder what method do you use to tie the rig to your mainline? Look forward to your reply and keep up the good work.
Hi AA. I am just getting into river fishing, trotting especially , can you tell me what knot you would use to tie your ready made rigs to your mainline so I can look it up on you tube and learn it. Thank you this is a fantastic tutorial
Loop to loop using figure of eight loop knots with the loop in the main line large enough to pass the winder through. Loop to loop also allows you to easily change the rig if needed.
only just found your channel and very good it is to. I'm thinking of trying some fresh water fishing as it's something I haven't tried yet and your videos have been very informative. would you ever do a sea fishing video or is this something that doesn't interest you
For a small bait like pearl barley, I would fish the stick. Bigger baits with heavier gear I might use an Avon. I would only use a waggler if conditions demand.
Hello ! I've seen your video more than once and I think it's great how you explain it: Could you please tell me what rod and reel you used? Thank you so much
this is the second of your videos i watched B2B, absolutley brilliant and so much information in them. Great job
I am glad you enjoyed it. best of luck with your fishing.

The floats are Lignum dome stick, Alloy stem dome stick and Alloy stem shallow water stick by Dave Harrell. Available at daveharrellangling.com
Nice vid so well explained.

Little and often is the key. Best of luck.
Another excellent video. If you put the stick rig on a winder what method do you use to tie the rig to your mainline? Look forward to your reply and keep up the good work.
Loop to loop the rig on, make sure the loop in the main line is big enough to pass the winder through. Best of luck with your fishing.
@@AmateurAngling Thankyou.

At the moment I don't know enough about sea fishing to make films of interest, but I never say never.
Brilliant I wish my father had explained all this to me
Nice vid. Would the shotting pattern be different for seed baits? or would a waggler be better?
For a small bait like pearl barley, I would fish the stick. Bigger baits with heavier gear I might use an Avon. I would only use a waggler if conditions demand.
Brilliant thank you
You're very welcome best of luck.
This is great. Any chance of doing one about the other float methods used on rivers?
I might do something on waggler fishing a river later in the year. Thanks for your comment, best of luck.
Great stuff, thanks for the reply
Hello ! I've seen your video more than once and I think it's great how you explain it: Could you please tell me what rod and reel you used? Thank you so much
The reel is a Greys Bewick Centre Pin and the rod a Hardy Marksman 13" float, but I don't think either is still being made, best of luck.
Great explanation! Thank you!
One question - where to by such float?
I found. This is Dave Harrel float. :)
That's right, Dave Harrell angling, best of luck.
That was fantastic no frills no skateboarding drop shot fishermen no silly made up words that end with z jolly good
Most informative vids mate !
or you can use bolo rod...
