The Bible also says it's not up to us to say who goes to heaven and who doesn't, so I wouldn't be comfortable opining on Dahmer's fate. What I will say is that we generally have our focus backwards. Where the Bible gives codes of behavior, we're supposed to compare our own behavior to it and make changes accordingly. What we tend to do though, is look outwards and judge others according to them.
@JervisGermane It's why I said that I won't believe that he's saved simply b/c of the video. Not saying that I have a say in the slightest, but we truthfully don't know. Maybe it WAS just him on his last breath desperately trying to gain sympathy. But either way, issues like this aren't super black and white. And sometimes it's more than okay to say "I don't know".
Okay um quick question how best should I punish my babies for being manipulated by a predator? Yes I made sure I knew it was going to happen and didn't do anything to help my babies. So since god used the curse of death what should I use? Maybe mercury? Its slow. Perhaps you should go look into the behavior of god for once you'll quickly see that he is a terrible father.
@JervisGermane oh that's right I forgot we humans have a superior sense of morality. My bad I forgot that if we followed God's example we would be criminals. See we would punish the manipulators of children not the children themselves. We would prevent manipulators from harming our kids instead of doing nothing. We would give our children knowledge of good and evil to better themselves and protect themselves with instead of forbidding it.
@stevengull6703 "We would give our children knowledge of good and evil" knowledge that inherently comes from God. You're not even arguing the existence of God, you're arguing his morality when your own definition of morality comes from a Judea-Christian western world. It's kinda like telling an inventor you can make something better, and then just ripping straight from his idea.
I think looking at how Judaism traditionally conceived of the afterlife is helpful in this conversation. Centuries of simplifying Christianity to ease communication to medieval peasants has turned the afterlife into a naughty/nice thing in the public image, which is part of the truth but far from the whole truth. In Judaism, hell (or the closest analogue thereof) was conceived as a time period, more than a location. If you failed to follow the teachings of God properly in life, you would be taught them in death. It would not be a pleasant experience, but it would be a finite experience, and when you were spiritually ready for heaven, you would go there. The sacrifice of Jesus changed the stakes somewhat, created essentially a fast-track to heaven by making spiritual readiness achievable on Earth, but that function of hell still remains true. Once a hellbound soul is ready for heaven, because it has truly embraced God and atoned for all of its failures in life, however difficult they may be to atone for, it will go to heaven. As you say, everything is possible through God.
Jeffrey Dahmer saying that he recognizes Jesus as his savior before he died is literally the same as Osama Bin Laden saying the same thing in that one family guy scene where he is instantly teleported to Heavan after they kill him.
no because him saying it doesn't mean anything, if he truthfully believes it then he will because we must accept Christ's death for us to allow to us to go heaven (because we all deserve hell).
we've arrived at a contradiction. "God alone is good" and "there is no consequence for evil behavior". because of the lack of consequence, God is enabling people to act in evil ways, spreading pain and suffering when they could have stopped it. anyone who encourages, enables or actively spreads pain and suffering cannot be good.
I think you misunderstood the passage. If you interpret it as "you cannot cherry pick deeds to perform and still get into heaven" then the contradiction is gone. the rich man was unwilling to give his money to charity despite everything else he was doing. Jesus dying does not absolve you of all sins forever, it simply cleans us from the original sin which every person is born with as a curse.
@Aaron-vd4vi There is a consequence for evil behavior: hell. Christianity does not teach that there is no consequence for evil behavior. But God sent his only son Jesus, who gave his own life for you and for me, paying the penalty of our sins so we won't have that consequence on us anymore, and we can live with him :) God bless!
@@SolfegeSilver but if murderers are allowed entry to heaven because of a snap decision to accept jesus after the fact, then there is no consequence for evil behavior. that evil behavior is erased from their verdict and they are allowed entry into heaven. that's no consequence at all
You can’t contribute to your salvation in Christ, good deeds are merely an outward sign of your faith, trust, and salvation in Christ.
