1997 was the last model year for the TIB 2WD(and TTB 4WD) Ranger. The coil-sprung 2WD ones drove fine and didn't chew up tires so much. All 1998+ 4WD and EDGE 2WD were torsion-sprung. Towards the end of the run, the torsion 2WD was the Sport.
Had one of these stolen a few months back miss it. The only option it's had was A/C and loved it. Had to go into first when going up any incline greater than 2%.
My Isuzu pup had torsion bars. Never tried crankin um up though. It was a unique 4wd that sat at almost 2wd drive height. Which made a winter time “ sleeper”!
Ford's twin I-beam suspension also gave a magical turning radius. I think it allowed more steering articulation, but even the F-150 could turn on a dime and gice you a nickle's change.
Old school Ford Rangers are the best, I had owned 1999, 2001, 2002, 2008 models in the past and now I bought a 2009 Ford Rangers xlt clubcab with original 15,154 miles in January 24th of this year. It was in mint condition
Your points are true of pick-up trucks generally before the became suburban status symbols and the norm became crew cabs with vestigal beds. Hurray for the small Ranger! The Maverick doesn't come close.
You know... most people's arm-span is within an inch or two of their height.... all he had to do was stand next to it, spread his arms, and compare fingertip to fingertip. (This is how I measure network cables.)
The 2.3 and the 3.0 V6 actually have about the same performance (having owned both). The 4.0 V6 isn't much better. I had three TTB Rangers and never had alignment issues (about 400K kms of driving). I am currently running a 2008 Ranger SuperCab and a 2024 Maverick Lariat Hybrid. The a/c and cruise work fine in the 2008. It currently has 259K kms and has been oil rustproofed since new. The Porsche 356 was a Reutter coupe (uncommon style). A Speester has the cut down windshield and therefore has a very different profile from a Convertible. My favorite year was 1990 (of which I had two). The restyle of the body added extra doors to the SuperCab but took too much steel out of the body so it feels flimsy compared to the 2008.
My dad had a couple of these Ford Rangers. Finally gave them up because the gas mileage was so bad. I swear America didn't stop loving these small trucks, the big three sabotaged them with terrible automatics and even worse gas mileage. If they made the same truck but with an engine that could get 20mpg they would sell so fast
true, I owned a 99 Supercab 2WD with the 3.slow and manual. No joke it had the same fuel economy as my much newer Ram Quad Cab 2WD with the Pentastar V6 and now my F150 4x4 SuperCrew with the 2.7 Ecoboost. But there is always something about driving these compact trucks around town, able to park anywhere, not needing a ladder to get things in and out of the bed that feels so right. For the record 2 of my uncles owned 4 cyl Rangers with manual transmissions (a 2.5 and 2.3) and they got mid 20s MPG all day long. The low mileage was an automatic and V6 thing
DT driving around LA and admiring street parked cars could be a whole series.
Agreed!

This is so bizarrely interesting and entertaining.
I had a 94 extended cab. Traded it in after 10 years and 250k miles and it still ran great.
So many cars and trucks, so little time😻
I love the Ford Ranger Ditty..( NSFW)
When I became a hub driver these were good little work trucks😊
4 bangers and the smaller v6 I loved

I loved a 3 onn the tree!
If there's anything America appreciates, it's hard work -DT

Crank the Torsion bar, Who cares about tire shoulder wear.
CV joint will likely wear out faster, too.
@@theautopian1551 ball joints too. But being honest that also happens with all those Amazon and Ebay leveling kits you pay $100 + labor
