Keep going, I'm self taught been a dev for over 20yrs, when it wasn't popular and harder to break into this space. I use to say in my early yrs "I went from street to geek". A key is, like you said commit to it. Also, you must be super creative. I've been in the industry when brothas were few and far between doing this type of work. Of course I don't know you, but you remind me of my daughter so I will say, "Im proud of you and what you've accomplished".
this video is so interesting, it is nearly 2 years I had started studying to code on my own and , and I graduated from med school and recently achieved 4 years of Master Program in reproductive health field and I can tell trying to balance between working , master Program, studying on my own , no bootcamp and no mentor it"s a mess... so I have been trying to figure out a new pathway to achieve the minimum that allow me to have a confidence to be able to pass interviews or to get my first job... thank you for sharing your insights...
LEON really has changed the world man there are so many of us out here learning from him. I drop videos everyday talking about it and go live playing his videos spreading it out to more people because of this. I'm a fullstack dev that just joined a start up and feeling all impostery and shit but im pushing through. its crazy i also used freecodecamp and team treehouse but I live in error screens and going back and fourth with chat gpt just trying to make shit work. I'm never giving up though wings are gained in the fire
Yes!! This is so awesome and inspiring! Thank you for sharing! Leon truly is a blessing and he’s helping so many people. You got this! All the best on your journey! I will check out your content!
I’m self taught took me 2 years to land a full time job This journey is endless. You WILL ALWAYS be learning and be challenged 100% of the people who don’t make it quit Do NOT TAKE SHORT CUTS. Take your time and learn to understand Build projects and contribute to open source If money is your primary motivation then you will not last very long Keep going and keep moving forward
Your journey is very similar to mine, except I let my imposter syndrome trick me out of trying a junior dev role. Learning how to code through college wasn’t the best for me, so now I’m starting over and teaching myself. I finished two classes/projects just today alone. We got this! ❤
thank you for your words :) we can definitely achieve anything. you just have to focus and keep investing on YOURSELF! I'm changing my career now to IT at age of 32. its absolutely OK!
Thank you for this video! Imposter syndrome has held me back as well. I was thinking like coding is just to hard for me, but I had to realize that as long as I keep saying that something is to hard for me, then of course I’m not gonna pursue it. So definitely change my mindset❤
Exactly!! I had to tell myself that yes this is hard but only for the moment. Ots hard today but it may not be tomorrow. Each day gets better. You got this!!
I agree it can feel like that! But find your people. I found meetups near me and online. There are so many people out there learning and probably at the same level as you. I highly recommend 100Devs (not sponsored) for this reason. The community is unmatched! Even though the cohort is not currently live, there is still a discord you can join with so many different resources and people that are still active. Hope this helps!! You got this!
First off, I'm proud of you for taking this moment to reflect. Secondly, I think if you used learning tools like CS50, which is actually a very challenging course and teaches you a lot about the methodology behind programming, you probably have the skills and tools you need to succeed. Sometimes you just have to own that your good and live in it. It's great your really taking the time out to do this deep dive though, this alone proves you really care and your gonna put in the effort and time to make it work.
I second this, after going over the CS50 course and doing the projects along with it, I gained more confidence in my thinking process for coding things. I honestly think if ppl wanna have a structured way to start learning or even supplement learning CS50 is a great way to do so!
So im all the way in the caribbean and saw your video .. your a coder and a videographer .. i see how you frame your shots and put all that effort into your videos. your one hard working woman .. i get paid to create content lol and i dont even put all that effort into my shots for the sake of story telling ... your a boss
you gained a new subbie here... I've being starting and stopping programming for 3 years now. I had to leave a good school due to life circumstances.. I don't have any children but i understand its tough...you give me hope. don't stop trying and good luck
Thank you so much for your support! I know what you mean about stopping and starting but if it's something you really want, keep going because you got this!
I have been inconsistent in my journey wondering if its worth it at all, mostly me trying to stay in my comfort zone and afraid to fail. But what you said is true, sometimes the journey isn't linear, it has its twists and turns and you have to go back in order to move forward. Thank you for showing your resources with us. I am also going to start using free code camp along with my Udemy course and of course 100devs. I find that those alone weren't enough for me but maybe altogether will make a difference. :)
That is an awesome plan!! I know there will definitely be times you question the journey but you got this!! It’s definitely worth it if it’s really what you want. 💕
Wow..this video is so me! I don’t finish what I start or move to other things! I started few years ago wanting to run my own business and learning web design.. now I’m interested in the developer side!! I enrolled in Codeacamedy signed up for a coding group next month in April!! I need to do this for me and advance what I already now and start a new career !! I have to set aside time even tho I’m tired from my 9-5, kids etc!

I appreciate the video . I’m currently growing my development skills and sometimes this journey feels a bit lonely when you’re teaching yourself.

Email Developer is also on the table.
Yes I did a little of this in my last web dev job! It’s very interesting lol 💕
You gained a new sub .🎉… I was literally thinking about that today and you just made me comfortable to start over
Glad I found your Channel I don't know too Black Developers, so I have no one to talk to about Web Development. I get funny looks lol.

Been following for awhile now, thinking about starting this coding journey and from watching this I will pursue this journey. Thank you
Thank you so much for supporting! You got this! I'm so happy you've decided to start your journey!
Active recall and spaced repetition helped me on my learning journey
Great advices! I would also suggest doing pair programming, taking turns being the driver and the passenger.
thank you so much, it mean a lot to me
Thanks for this! Super helpful!
Thanks for being honest.. really good video
Thank you so much!!

Same feeling here been working for 4years as a fullstack dev but I feel like I got some much gaps
alot of facts in this one. I def Need to get out of tutorial hell and start building and breaking things.
This is me everytime I open my IDE
For real! lol. You got this!
what free online sites do you think is the best place to learn full coding when starting?
Hello! I have a lot of videos on this but 100Devs and freeCodeCamp are my favorites at the moment.
Do you have an aff link for 100 devs? Would love to support you!
Thank you so much! There are no links as this is a 100% free resource. I just truly love the course!! Thanks so much for wanting to support!! 💕💕
Are you signing up for cohort 3, 100 devs?
I heard there was supposed to be a third one but haven’t seen any details. I would tho! I’d love to take the course live.
