There should be a class action lawsuit over this design. A super thin plastic axle that is subjected to bending stress every time you 'click' the wheel. This was a deliberate decision to skip maybe one manufacturing step and sell more remotes on the back end.
My dad spent way too much money on this tv and they emphasized it was because of the remote...I haven't told him my kids over clicked the wheel in the past year or so and hints why I'm here before he flips out 😬. Just looked up a replacement one and it's anywhere between $30-$50 😮💨. Since my kids did the damage I'm trying to do my part by fixing it, but man this looks complicated I may just have to pay up 😅.

There is one one place we found selling official LG remotes and it wasnt an LG site? I find that odd. So here we are with a broken wheel again! We do have different gage wires but may be same issue with being too thin to stay inside the wheel. But knowing what it needs is the key! Thanks so much! In reality they dont need to make the wheel "click". That should be a separate button but in reality the only ENTER function is clicking a wheel that HAS to spin. But the entire thing could be changed the arrows around the circle have same function as the spinning wheel. And up and down arrows. So two choices on that! The middle could just be a clicker only. And the red arrow is also a pointer. The only thing that counts is the one thing that breaks. Enter! It also doesnt have to simulate a mouse for computer. They need to keep it simple. And will be writing to them!
For those wondering how to pry open the case (since it’s not shown in the video), I found a plastic card (like a credit card) works nicely, although it ruins the card a bit, so perhaps pick one you don’t care much about (membership card to something).

I was about to order a new one untill I stumbled on this vid. So having nothing to lose, I tried it: Worked like a charm. My toothpick didnt fit, zo I had to make it smaller by "splitting" it into smaller parts. Perfect, thanks!

For me, the other ‘axle’ of the wheel- the one that goes inside the switch was broken. So I did this : - Picked out the broken part of the ‘axle’ from the switch using a sharp pointed pick. - put the wheel on a vice so it remains upright. - little bit filing on the wheel where the axle connects to make a smooth joint. - Using a magnifying glass as a aid, i put a very tiny amount of super glue on the wheel. - using tweezers, i gently placed the broken axle on the wheel, just making it sit, without any force. then let it dry. - mixed up some 2 part epoxy and using a toothpic, I applied to the joint. Let it dry for 12 hours and put everything back. Voila ! Now thinking about my steps, I think I should have made a separate video out of it.
I have the same issue. Plastic sheered in two flush with the wheel. There seems to be a metal sleeve holding a piece of plastic.. Not sure if that has some solder points on it - part of electronic contacts or something. The sleeve has a hole where I think the broken off part would have attached flush to where the wheel has sheered off. Luckily I have an IFixit PC repair kit and some plastic pieces that look like guitar plectrums were helpful in prying the case apart without any outward appearance of damage. Four wafer thin pieces of plastic seem to shear off (2 on each side) where the top/bottom clipped together (just around the bottom of the joystick whee; section and between the +/- volume. If you pry the top from the bottom of the case carefully all the rubber buttons stay in the top making life easier. It's just the little rubber wheel that comes out. Gonna ponder how to fix it and contact LG after the weekend perhaps. Get their advice. They should perhaps make the axle out of a piece of metal instead of plastic so it doesn't give out so easily.
@@jeremyflowers8908 Indeed. It’s a poor design. Imagine the pressure a human puts using their thumb on the wheel. That whole pressure rests on a plastic “shaft” that is 1 mm thick. It’s gonna break at some point. Luckily for me the epoxy is holding out well. But subconsciously we are more careful when using the wheel now. A metal shaft is definitely a better Upgrade. I hope someone sells it as a aftermarket part upgrade.
Thank you very much! I had one that just quit electronically. I was sent a replacement and bazar misfortune spilt liter fluid on it and the witch fused the 4 way button. Following your lead I was able to open that clam shell and swop the faces out. Walla back in business.
My wheel was not clucking easily. Pivot in wheel was broken. I managed to completely destroy the remote cosmetically and functionally while trying to fix it and I'm an engineer. Putting the unit together was the tricky part. Wish I had not tried at all. Beware!!!
I havent tried fixing ours yet but if you need a small pry to open it try glasses screw drivers or sewing machine accesories. I have many vintage machines so many small tools. Even those old keys to open cans they have a skinny pry end. Once you get it open a bit on one side run a dime or something around it. Ive done this on lots of tiny hard to open doors etc. on kids toys, machine parts, even the dang metal key rings that break your nails. Start skinny and work your way around with thicker items.

Pull the tiny broken piece of axle from the housing. Put a tiny bit of super glue on the tip and sit it onto the wheel. Wait to dry and put back together.
i wonder how he managed to brake the klicker! normally the other side breaks, just like mine. that little 6 sided pin who goes in the scroller is just so tiny it has to break one day. thats a mayor design flaw by lg. i repaired mine but its very hard to scroll and press the button.

Had mine just over a year and it broke.Ironically it sat boxed in my house while I waited for an electrician to fit it on the wall with a bracket. So used less than a year in reality. Seems like a common design flaw.

Hey I dropped my AN-MR600 remote and it seems like one integrated circuit broke off. It's near the ir led and has the label U3. It's an 4 or 5 pins IC. Does any one know the part no?
That button won't last long this way, this remote is costly but you don't need to buy the same remote again, simple remotes are also available in the market @ Rs 150/- only
My issue is not the wheels, Is the click in select action that is malfunction. It doesn't bounce back. Not the black rolling part but is the clicking button on board. Do I have to get a complete remote. Anyone knows how to fix. Please share will be appreciated.
Lol I'm having the same issue.....Have u called lg for the warranty, I'm gonna call them tomorrow, my tv is 5 months old my remote shouldn't break. If they say no I'm gonna buy a new one, amazon has it for $20.
Update: I opened mine and lg made it to be cheaply broken so they can sell u more remote. The plastic that hold the wheel is weak and skinny it's meant to brake with each press (the more you use it). And also i've watch 3 different repair videos and they all have different wheel model that holds the wheel up. the newest model is the weakest one (which I have). I'll try to super glue it but than again it's meant to be broken so it's whatever.

On the newer remote ALB758555001 the fix was just to glue the axel holding the wheel back to the piece soldered on the motherboard.
Same! They should make the axle out of metal and free of the wheel.
