    Another possibility is that there is a problem with the vent system. For example, the cap on top of the vent on the roof might be pushed down, or the vent stack might not be long enough, or there might be trees or such near the vent. If the vent stack is not long enough then wind and weather can disrupt the flow and cause overheating which causes the switch to trip. Read the install instructions for your heater carefully.

    I know this post is old but that switch is a safety switch for the high limit so it doesn't get too hot it has nothing to do with carbon monoxide

      Any gas heater has the potential to leak it’s carbon monoxide exhaust into the indoor living area if the flue is not properly vented

      @@HeartHandsMikey I've been looking online for the 84166 Cozy Heater Spill (limit) Switch and the blue connection wires. I see the switch around but not the blue wires.
      Is there an official name for those blue wires and where did you buy your replacement switch and wires? Any info would be helpful. Thank you.

    Yes, it protects against backdraft by opening circuit when it overheats due to obstructed exhaust

    Finally went to my mom's house to check her wall furnace (cold weather and rain expected this week) that had the same symptoms as yours. I was ready to remove and change out that switch/sensor. I took off the cover and saw that there were a lot of dust bunnies everywhere including the inner grate. I cleaned out all the dust bunnies and voila...heater is working again.

    Did you write a song about it when you (and Florida guy) finally fixed it? I don't care for that particular kind of safety switch, (the one that went bad) with the exposed springy contacts on the back. As you found out, they can stick slightly together resulting in you trial & tribulations. I have different ones on my furnace (called Spill switches)and they have a re-set button on the back of them. So if they are tripped, you know you have excess heat backing up.

    So after I had a technician from SoCalEdison out here last week who couldn't pinpoint the problem, I decided to check for any TH-cam videos which brought me here. I have the EXACT same Cozy wall heater with the same identical problem. The tech listed off all of the same possible problems: gas valve, thermostat, etc..... I even told him that when I'd tap the top area of the unit (you know, the area right next to the safety switch), it would turn on. You'd think these techs would watch TH-cam videos from time to time to pick up on other people's experiences but I guess not. Turns out, my safety switch is fine; it's the connection of the two wires to the tabs that was faulty. Not sure what kind of wiring your unit has but mine are both aluminum (which sucks compared to copper!) I ended up splicing off the ends which exposed clean wire. I then crimped on new connectors and attached them to the switch tabs. So far, the system turns on every time the temp dips below the 67 degree preset I have on my thermostat.
    Thanks again for taking the time that you did to troubleshoot this! If I had to deal with another experience of waking up in the middle of the night to a home under 60 degrees because my wall heater didn't turn on I was going to lose it!

    • @CoyoteDan1
      @CoyoteDan1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yeyopedroza6594 You have to use the correct switch for your furnace! You can't just put any random limit switch into it's place. You can look in your manual or go to a good HVAC supply place (Locke, where I am, but there are hundreds), give them the exact model of your furnace, and tell them you want the blocked flue limit switch. They can look it up. But it is better if you learn how to read the parts diagram for your furnace yourself, as well. It will have the part number. Some switches will work in multiple furnaces and go by multiple part numbers, but you must have the right one. If you don't, then it will either trip too easily or not at all -- and not tripping at all is a major safety hazard!

    Hello Mike,
    Well, if your "Blocked Flue Switch" method is the solution, I wish I could split all the money the plumbers who installed our POS Cozy heater have bilked our landlord for, and we'd be able to buy SEVERAL heaters.
    This thing has tormented me since it was installed, and the plumbers always blame the fact that I have installed a more sophisticated thermostat than the POS one which appropriately shipped with the POS heater.
    I try to explain to them that it's simple physics: a switch is a switch is a switch.
    I appreciate you spreading the word about what has had to be immensely frustrating.
    My best,
    Paul

    • @HeartHandsMikey
      @HeartHandsMikey  ปีที่แล้ว

      What's funny is that I heard that too, that you cannot install any kind of technical switch to it. The thermostat/switch has to be the one that comes with it or just like that one that comes with it. I went through many thermostats...I do not believe that that played a factor. Then again, who knows...these things have ghosts in them.

    • @HeartHandsMikey
      @HeartHandsMikey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm no professional. In fact, I couldn't find a professional that would touch this furnance with a ten foot pole...but yes that sounds like the valve to me, which I have a video on. Everyone makes it like the valve is an impossible job, but it isn't at all. If a musician like me can do it, anyone can. Just be safe with gas and shut it off, have proper ventilation, don't do obviously dumb things like smoke or have open flames close by, do the classic soapy water test, and I whole heartedly suggest that you buy not only a carbon monoxide detector, but also a gas leak detector. I got mine at home depot for like $12. Better to spend $12 and detect a small leak and be able to simply tighten the fitting on the valve than has a small leak you didn't notice and be dead!
      But honestly, the valve is a little pricey ($100 I think) and the wrenches I bought to get proper torque were big and therefore a bit pricey, plus some pipe dope and pipe tape and good rubber grip work gloves to really grip the wrenches, but it wasn't "hard", it was more so just having the tools to do it and if I didn't have them, making yet again another trip to walmart or home depot.
      It found it to be like anything home improvement wise: not hard, just need to be safe and do it. And that's coming from someone who isn't that good at home improvement. When you cold and have no help...you get motivated.

Your a life saver. Literally, a life saver. Thank you thank you thank you.

    I just watched a different video that said you fixed it by cleaning and tightening the safety wire connections, then accidentally came across this one about safety switch replacement. Is it still working now ?

    • @HeartHandsMikey
      @HeartHandsMikey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, has been a very long road of thinking it is fixed then it will run for an hour or a day or a week and then I am back to the drawing board. I am happy to say that according to my dad that is up there and checking on it every so often that he reports it works fine, kick on and off and warms the house.
      I recommend you watch all the videos and start trying the different things I suggest and the different things people have suggested in the comments. Everyone has similar issues, but the fixes are all different.

      @@HeartHandsMikey thanks for reply!! My first ever. I did get it to fire up - for a second. :( Maybe that safety switch - can’t remember if heater guy replaced that before we gave up last winter. Anyway, thanks!!

    I changed the safety switch wire out with 18/2 gage solid copper strand and I haven't have any issues since then. I believe the original wire was to light and it was stranded so the current was having an issue tripping the safety switch. I also wrapped the wire at the top of the heater where it connects to the safety switch with aluminum foil because it gets really hot and it will help keep the wire insulation from melting or cracking. So far only part not needed was the safety switch. The replacement wire is 25 foot at Lowes for only $5.00 I will keep you posted if the problem comes back, but so far so good.

      this is great info. Was your old wire getting hot too, or just the new one?

    • @brendastringfellow3130
      @brendastringfellow3130 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HeartHandsMikey they were both getting hot. I don't think heat was the issue the original wire was just to thin and the milli voltage could not generate enough power to operate the safety switch. I just wrapped the wire because it won't hurt anything & possibly help in the long run. I only like to do a job once & not have to do it over a few years later. Heater still kicking on all night & day with no issues in 4 days.

      @@brendastringfellow3130 wow good for you! I wonder then if I even needed to replace my gas valve? Mine seems to be working perfectly now, but darn, out of all the advice I sought out online as well as from local heating professionals, no one thought to use a heavier gauge wire. Way to go!
