    Beautiful wrists,taste,class, and what else can I say.Any drummer that can reach a level of sophistication that this man has reached is to be respected and honored.Simply put the man is a genius.

    I had the pleasure of meeting and learning from Colin in 1993 as he visited the Humber College Music Program in Toronto Canada to do a masterclass for us. I was later lucky enough to get a private lesson with him as well, and attend a show at Top of The Senator as he was playing drums for Carol Sloane. He is a gentleman, a great teacher and a pleasure to hang out with. I remember the swing he had being incredible and absolutely taking over the room. So infectious and dare I say badass. Paul Delong was there that night as well and we were both really inspired by Colin. Colin was friends with Ed Shaughnessy, Jim Blackley, Jake Hanna and Buddy Rich to name a few. He played with people like Joe Pass, George Shearing, Benny Goodman and even Miles Davis. Truly a living legend. I'm fairly sure that no one, including Colin, is going to give a shit if anyone "likes" this video or not.

    Really enjoying Colin's playing at the moment. It's refreshing and refined, and really quite inspiring.

    Gee guys! Wow...lighten up..it's really hard to get a beautiful sound like that..I enjoyed the heck out of this..really nice and as someone said "relaxing"...when's the last time you heard that adjective to describe a set of drums? Really nice flow of ideas...bravo Colin!

    This man is tops. Studied from his books for years and still studying. Can't listen to "Peanuts" soundtracks without thinking of Colin. His technique and style reminds me a lot of Joe Morello. Both master players.

    From what I could tell, Colin was just warming up and towards the end of the video his mastery of the drums started to really show through.
    It is not always easy to come out of the winter cold onto a drumset and then play maniacally fast stuff... Gotta warm the honey up a bit before it flows!

    that was sweet.....this guy has the hands of a concert snare percussionist and opened doors on bass drum technique....wonder if you guys will be playing half as cool when u reach his age...Colin is amazing....swings like crazy and has played some amazing music through the decades....listen to him with Vince Guraldi and you can learn and enjoy so much taste from him.

    why the dislikes guys?I know, he should have dumb ed down his playing and started imitating Travis Barker and Justin Bieber, then you guys would like it.

      Really talking about Justin Bieber and Travis Barker like they're the same? Bieber is a shit musician, we can agree on that. But Barker not a bad drummer.

      Travis is banging the drums, Colin is playing the instrument - that's difference

    Colin Bailey wrote what would become for us the Bible kick pedal. Only here is clearly a lack of prior preheating or something like note.

    We would all stand for some lessons with a great teacher such as Colin. Just the first few sections from his book on phrasing have done more for me than anything found in the Riley books or even Syncopation(and I don't mean to put down either of the two).
    His technique on bass, is equally valuable. There is no need to seek Freddy Gruber, just get in touch with Colin.

    Colin Bailey's phrasing makes sense. He's has a great touch. His sound is dry and crisp. He doesn't sound like he's borrowing licks like most drummers. I hear some Gene Krupa for some reason. Very creative.

    • @thecrippledrummer
      @thecrippledrummer 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Krupa was one of Colin's early influences

    • @Jameskeith1972
      @Jameskeith1972 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha ha. I made a contradiction! What I should say, is that his doesn't sound cliche, or generic. As far as the Krupa thing, I hear the influence. Colin has captured the spirit rather than recycled what some call licks.

      Bet if he went into some loud funky groove midway, he'd get more likes. I was interested in the lessons from him, he didn't hit hard on those either.

    Not what I call musical drum playing at all. This guy is harshy and dry. I don't like it. Dave Weckl is totally on the other side of the Moon comparing to Colin.

      Well, in my experience, the content that a drummer should and should not learn is all relative to their situations. I watch all the vic firth videos as well because vic firth endorses some drummers that really capture my attention. But since I don't play technical jazz or really any form of jazz at all, this is not something I would immediately benefit from. I agree that everybody is trying to tell us something, but if I don't want to hear what someone has to say, I'm probably not going to listen. Lol. Like I said, great drummer. Impeccable skills. Just not relevant to my taste very much.
