That is an awesomely styled watched. I really like the way they used the crown as a spinning propeller with the aircraft's wings done in relief on the side of the case.

The dash of the Jaguar XK8 was styled after the Spitfire’s wings, with round vents to mimic the RAF rondel. The XK8 was manufactured in a factory that made Spitfires during WW2.
Mark I agree 100%,these are beautiful, both colors work and the extra leather strap is awesome .Thank's for the showing, much appreciated . Wonder how much better they would look with the silicone oil inside the casing,do these watches have the rubber gaskets?
I'm into dive watches, but, always wanted to get a fliegler type watch to put on a bund style strap. These are lovely, but, aren't flight watches supposed to hack by nature?
I just got this watch. Are you setting the time per the manual, by rotating the crown clockwise? Or counterclockwise? Does it matter or would the mechanism damage? I hate how rotating it per the manual moves the time backwards instead of forwards.
Interesting dial if a little too busy / confusing. I like the green face and band color. Grey is not for me. I would miss the stop seconds ability. Cool rotor and display back. Thanks for showing them off.
Beautiful watch & great attention to detail ,thought you were gonna say miyota 9 .... nooooo the 8 series then i went soft {even tho i have an 8 series running at +1sec isn't the point) the styling & finish 0f that watch deserves a better grade movement ie: at very least 9 series. the other dimensions i'd happily live with & that rotor is the bomb..ah well but definitely the best looking aviator iv'e been drawn to.
Avi-8 had a watch after the P-51 Mustang using steel from actual Mustangs. This is not the same with old Spitfires, is it? Like the design on this one, though.
I saw these on their website not too long ago and I can dig it! The dial design is really nice, more subtle than some of their other pieces. And on a metal bracelet with milled clasp. Now if Seiko would just do the same on some of their watches. Solid end links with a stamped clasp, not a good look in 2020 Seiko. Same thing with Orient on the Neptune.
the watch is cool but completely overshadowed by that jazzy hoodie....just when you think he can't get any more Original G he hits you right between the eyes with another hoodie from heaven
I know you're not the watchmaker, but why can't they just put in a NH35 or equivalent. It would then have the hacking function. With that said though, I heard the newer 8000 series miyota movements have since added the hacking function, so I wonder if they couldn't get a hold of those movements?
@@islandwatch Well Marc, their penny pinching has lost a sale to me. I was on their email notification for this model and really looking forward to getting one until I discovered they had put a non-hacking movement in it. Aaargh! Why in this day of age are the makers still doing it, when there are plenty of cost-effective alternatives that hack. Accountants should stick to counting numbers rather than having a finger in the design philosophy. It's a real shame because it would have added nicely to my other four (4) AVI models in my collection 😞
Smiths were the big supplier of cockpit dials for along time and producers of fuses for ordanance. Made watches in the UK for about 20 years as well. Made famous by Hillary,s summit of Everest in the 50,s who also took a Rolex with him.Sorry to be a bore! Cheers.!
@@paulwilberforce9659 lol, not everyone who wants a smaller watch has thin wrists. Mine are a flat 7 inches and I prefer watches around 40mm. I know aviation watches are supposed to be large, but I don't like my watches large. I think it's kind of gaudy, and honestly just prefer a more classic fit.
Two dials with interchanged hours and minutes marks, looks like original design, but completely mess for reading time. I would pass it. Just like that seiko flight master- complete mess i was thinking its citizen first :)

Gotta say, this is the nicest aviator I've seen in a couple decades. Particularly the thumbnail one with green markings.
Thanks!!
@@islandwatch you're welcome Marc.
Wow, nice rethink of a Flieger. I think I'll save up some and get one from you. I love the look!
Thanks so much!
Love that rotor in the shape of the Supermarine Spitfire.
The rest of the watch is nice, too 👍
Thank you
An interesting design. I don't think I have seen it before. Watch is too big for me but was fun to look at. Thanks
Thanks Scott.
Cool that the crowd is like the nose and those lines are the wings
Nifty, isn't it?
That is the coolest rotator!
It is!

You cannot fill them with oil; they are autos.
Maybe I missed it but what does the inner dial do (not the seconds hand)? Just aesthetic or something else?
Aestheics.
@@islandwatch great thanks for the reply
Thats the bit I don't like :)
When are your Islander Pilot watches coming back into stock? The Isl-16 would definitely be my next Pilot watch purchase!
Hoping next month.

That Squale is the best watch in the video!
LOL, I will not argue.
Liking those a lot. Do like the Flieger patterns, and this just makes choosing my next one even more difficult 🤦♂️🤣
Thanks much!
That rotor is pretty cool
Simple, and cool!

That mesh band looks gorgeous! Would love one for my Flight Master. Where can I get one?

Thanks for watching none the less.
Nice fresh take on an aviation watch. It looks very thick though.
very nice!!!! I need a 39mm version!
Isn't that always the story.
Exactly as the date window sort of gives it away of that small movement inside.

this is regular steel.
Damn, why’d they choose a base movement? I would have got one of these.
Sorry it's not to your liking
im looking to buy something on long island watch but i need to know if the price listed is set to my currency.(cad) could you confirm this?
love the dial, rotor, crystal, etc.. but I don't love the fake rivets. but man, that dial... awesome.
Thank you
Very good design and implementation. Thank you.
The ad during your video was for FAA pilot training, LOL.
Be a pilot, then get the watch!
Appreciate the review Marc!

I like the design of this watch.
Me too
Mark, Basel World cancelled...any thoughts?
Another nail in the coffin
Simulated rivets on the side, very cool.
How to choose? Both are magnificent. I want both.
I think there's two more out there, so don't go looking too close!
Very cool watches. Size is slightly large for me.
Thanks for watching!

Thanks for sharing,Marc.
Thanks for watching.
I want the grey dial in the stainless case, that would be hawt
Would be a good match.

If it was 39-40mm with a 9xxx series Miyota I’d be all over it...never happy are we Marc!😏

missed opportunity for a propeller on the crown to match the wings on the side of the case

A non-hacking pilots watch?
Yes sir.
These are very nice
Thanks!
The name avi-8 is a little on the nose. Still a very very cool watch
