It's insane that you can sell a skx variant fully customized for 2 to 300 dollars. I'm sad that seiko is killing the brand but really impressed that you are keeping it alive. If someone wanted to do all of this custom work on even a used skx they'd be out 150 to 200$ plus another 2 to 300 in parts, plus the cost of installation if you aren't handy with watches. Marathon field watch. Its not DIVER water resistance, but unless youre actually diving, why add bulk? As for lume, it uses tritium tubes. ~20 years without a lighr source they will glow
G'day Marc, hoping you will see this. Received my ISL17 yesterday and I'm super impressed with the application of the lume on this. I let out a little "WOW" after I hit it with a flashlight and turned the lights out, and I'm no stranger to good lume! The crispness of the dial markers and text just jumped out! Out of the box, the leather strap is quite stiff, but a few minutes of flexing it back and forth added the suppleness I like for leather bands. Thanks for bringing these models to market 👍👍
Beautiful line Mark ! I’ve been sharing your new models with the firefighters in our dept. and they keep asking if any of the divers will be released in a larger case (44mm). Most all of our guys wear larger cases and I know that’s not a popular request, but one many fire/rescue/dive guys will ask. The flat, coated crystal seemed to reflect much less than the domed, so great job on that ! Love the matte finish you chose, non-glossy dials, great lume etc. Plus, you are offering multiple size options etc. As you expand that line, there will be no reason for buyers to look at anything else.
Long Island Watch Thanks for the reply. The biggest complaint I hear from our dive team and fellow pilots, is the dislike for glossy dials and polished case tops. Our team bought every member a DB Master 1000 to evaluate. They loved the size, the matte face, but disliked the pointless He valve and HATED the thin hour hand ! Of course the lume is not good either. You have a one-stop, look no further watch started. A group of guys are just waiting for a matte 44 case, with flat finish face (dial) and do a group order. Plus, the dept is going to replace the M-1000’s with ?? Great no-nonsense line you are creating, that checks off the missing boxes !
My brother bought an 04 for our dads 60th birthday. He let me take a look at it before gifting it to him and I have to say is it an amazing watch. The action of the bezel is so much better than whats on my SKX013.
You’ve done a terrific job with these watches. Just bought a Breitling but when the fun with that settles down I’m a buyer. The SKX styles are all walk off home runs.

I saw one of the earlier Islander dive watch videos and why they're not ISO certified, but for me that's a must have and I'm willing to pay more for it. Without it I'd rather spend the money on another type of watch.

Secondly, for those who aren't dedicated divers, it's not about "need" so much as "want", and isn't "want" a major part of any hobbyist's approach to his or her hobby, whatever that hobby may be? As i said, I saw the early video and I understand your reasons for not having it, but I was thinking part of the reason for your TH-cam channel was to stimulate discussion of all points of view within the hobby, not just for commenters to be in lockstep with you. I admit I could be mistaken about that, though...

I have to admit I am keeping an eye out for the ISL-09 being back in stock. I might need a 17 as well, the only type B I have is the SNK807, so it might be time for an upgrade. I look forward to seeing where you take this next, and wish you continued success on this venture. About the only other watch currently on my radar is that abalone Phoibos ( unusual dials are my weakness ).
I LOVE my 38mm Pepsi Islander. It’s beautiful , tough, accurate, and is the most comfortable jubilee bracelet I’ve ever worn. My single bit of criticism is that it was extremely hard to size. I am comfortable removing links and the pins were extremely tight. So much that I broke 2 sizing tools, and bent 2 pins removing them. Even still, I LOVE IT!

Very nice looking watches! However, to this day I still do not understand why Seiko puts the lume pip on the aft end of the second hand. If for styling, why have it lumed?
I bought an ISL-16 blue type A flieger dial aviator, and it looks every bit as good as the sterile dial Stowa, and is in some respects better with 100m water resistance and a screw down crown. Fantastic value for money. Marc is super responsive, and has a great product.
This line is pretty awesome Mark! I've been looking for a Type B Aviator with hacking, and a blue dial in the 42-44mm range. A sapphire crystal and screw down crown are added bonuses. Not to mention lume. Good lume seems to be a bit more difficult to find in an aviator. Just waiting for the ISL-17's to come back in stock. In unrelated news I have my eye on the ISL-04 too.

Nice. I really wish there's a 42mm to 44mm automatic field watch with 200m water resistance with an offset crown at 4pm. Bertuccu is nice, but it doesn't come in automatic.

I have the original black dive time bezel islander and the black pilot watch. Couldnt be happier with them. I did change the hands on the dive islander to MM hands with the red and white second hand . I have too many seikos with those normal hands and they get boring to look at after a while
I really want to get the 38mm Islander dive watch but the reviews about the bracelet have kept me from pulling the trigger. Any news on a new batch of bracelets coming....?
Best of both worlds if you like modding Seiko, etc. Plenty of great choices. Seiko makes some great watches, but they always leave something to be desired for me with their choice of crystals, bezels and bracelets.
Got the blue dial sapphire bezel, it’s pretty! I was hesitant, but it looks way different in person than on film. Beautiful blue in the sun. Spacewatch grade lume!
I mostly agree and I bought one, but there's still a few more things I'd like. I'm probably in the minority but I'd like the option to get 2-3 more mm's in case width, a non tapering bracelet, no day or date complication, a Swiss movement, and maybe an option for a exhibition case back.
I would go nuts over the orange faced diver with the sapphire blue bezel! Of course I’d love to own any of these! I just got a pay raise so I told the wife with my first paycheck I’m buying one of these watches!!

I picked up the ISL-12 a few weeks back. It's a great watch, I love the double dome sapphire crystal. I changed the strap to a grey nato... I have 9.5 inch wrists so I look for a strap that runs 300mm plus. Marc you mentioned maybe doing a sandblasted bracelet to match, is that something that is still in the works?
As far as expanding the line, the aviator is a dial swap away from being a field watch. To carry on the theme of picking up where seiko has recently left off, I am interested in a 38mm dress watch. Into the realm of wishful thinking, I would love to see a GMT and a chrono, but I imagine sourcing suitable movements would be difficult.
...it really is a good looking collection Marc...it seems like only last year i acquired my original DualTime Diver ! that beautiful black cushion case diver with orange hands is pretty nice...eagerly awaiting this years' new releases !
Congrats... and here's to another 17 years. I think you really checked the main boxes that I've heard WIS talk about for years. And for those who claim that the Islander is an SKX knockoff... DUH?! It's basically a pre-modded SKX... which all of us were doing for years... for a lot lower cost than separately purchasing the ($200-$250) donor watch (still with archaic movement), ($25-$50) dial, ($15-$20) chapter ring, ($20-$40) hands, ($50-$80) sapphire crystal, ($40-$50) bezel, ($20-$50) insert and ($60-$100) solid-end-link-with-milled-clasp bracelet. I modded the SKX for years and, depending on the part, those were the actual prices I paid for parts. And if you upgrade the movement and stem it only got -uglier- more expensive from there. And I STILL didn't have drilled lugs! As long as you like the colorway of the islander you chose, $299 is an absolute STEAL for a watch with these specs. Especially, since the SKX is gone and the 5KX lacks many of the features of the Islander.

Needs to lumed for iso certification so that a diver can see the watch is working at a glance. Doesn't have to be at the bottom though.

I have the original black dive time bezel islander and the black pilot watch. Couldnt be happier with them. I did change the hands on the dive islander to MM hands with the red and white second hand . I have too many seikos with those normal hands and they get boring to look at after a while

Best of both worlds if you like modding Seiko, etc. Plenty of great choices. Seiko makes some great watches, but they always leave something to be desired for me with their choice of crystals, bezels and bracelets.

I mostly agree and I bought one, but there's still a few more things I'd like. I'm probably in the minority but I'd like the option to get 2-3 more mm's in case width, a non tapering bracelet, no day or date complication, a Swiss movement, and maybe an option for a exhibition case back.

I would go nuts over the orange faced diver with the sapphire blue bezel! Of course I’d love to own any of these! I just got a pay raise so I told the wife with my first paycheck I’m buying one of these watches!!

I picked up the ISL-12 a few weeks back. It's a great watch, I love the double dome sapphire crystal. I changed the strap to a grey nato... I have 9.5 inch wrists so I look for a strap that runs 300mm plus.
Marc you mentioned maybe doing a sandblasted bracelet to match, is that something that is still in the works?

As far as expanding the line, the aviator is a dial swap away from being a field watch. To carry on the theme of picking up where seiko has recently left off, I am interested in a 38mm dress watch.
Into the realm of wishful thinking, I would love to see a GMT and a chrono, but I imagine sourcing suitable movements would be difficult.
...it really is a good looking collection Marc...it seems like only last year i acquired my original DualTime Diver ! that beautiful black cushion case diver with orange hands is pretty nice...eagerly awaiting this years' new releases !

Congrats... and here's to another 17 years. I think you really checked the main boxes that I've heard WIS talk about for years.
And for those who claim that the Islander is an SKX knockoff... DUH?! It's basically a pre-modded SKX... which all of us were doing for years... for a lot lower cost than separately purchasing the ($200-$250) donor watch (still with archaic movement), ($25-$50) dial, ($15-$20) chapter ring, ($20-$40) hands, ($50-$80) sapphire crystal, ($40-$50) bezel, ($20-$50) insert and ($60-$100) solid-end-link-with-milled-clasp bracelet. I modded the SKX for years and, depending on the part, those were the actual prices I paid for parts. And if you upgrade the movement and stem it only got -uglier- more expensive from there. And I STILL didn't have drilled lugs! As long as you like the colorway of the islander you chose, $299 is an absolute STEAL for a watch with these specs. Especially, since the SKX is gone and the 5KX lacks many of the features of the Islander.
