Asia & BJ continuing their ' Van Halen ' education👍👍. That sound Asia speaks about was made in 1978 & still sounds fresh today thanks in large part to the Mad scientist ' Edward Van Halen '👑👑🎸🎸
Every time I see Asia & BJ react to VH, I have two different emotions. I can’t deal with Eddie’s loss (over two years now). I still get emotional when I realize I live in a world where Eddie is no longer. I still drive by Eddie and Alex’s childhood home, (Pasadena, CA) where all these songs were conceptualized. As a musician from a certain time period, I can attest, there will never be another. These songs you’re reacting to (1978 debut) were recorded in September/October of 1977 at Sunset Sound records in Hollywood, and to my ears, still sounds fresh and relevant. Eddie and the boys changed the game from that point forward. Literally every band tried to copy their formula, but never came close. Every singer wanted to have the charisma and swagger of David Lee Roth and every guitar player THOUGHT that they were Eddie. This became known as “80’s rock”. But my other emotions and thoughts are that I’m happy that their music will live on and I hope a newer, younger generation of fans discover their music.
Indeed. Nobody sounded like Van Halen, try as they might. Nuno Bettancourt and Extreme came closest which is probably why Gary Cherone joined VH for a New York minute. It's kinda like when Quentin Tarantino hit the scene. Lots of Hollywood directors tried to make the next Pulp Fiction but... Anyway, yes. VH (especially the DLR records) still holds up today. R.I.P. to the Dutch Master.
@@TANTRUMGASM I'd pick Aerosmith over Van Halen and Soundgarden over both of them, but... We're talking short hairs. Metallica is a little different. They were much heavier and belong in an another category along with TOOL.
@John McMahon He's dead. Get over it and move on. You never knew him. People die every day. It's one thing to feel that way about close friends and family. Not some musician who fast tracked himself to an early grave.
@@skiptowne5724 Eddie Van Halen gave me joy since 1978 and i heard VH on the radio and it felt so weird Eddie Van Halen is gone , i felt sad and like i can't believe he's gone.
I have a great pic for you two - oh, you're going to love this one. "Beautiful Girls" is one you have to react to. It has everything in it from VH and DLR is great and ad libs big time. Great riff, Singing, and of course Guitar. It will put a smile on your face FOR SURE. Another good one is their remake of a song Linda Ronstadt made famous, YOUR NO GOOD. The guitar work is just killer and that solo is one of Ed's BEST. They totally VAN HALENIZED the song. IT IS SUPREMELY BAD!!!!!!!
This song is about a girl who has a one-night stand and lives to regret it. She wants a deeper relationship and feels used by the guys who hit it and quit. She considers writing him a letter asking him to call (remember, this is before texting), but she knows it will get her nowhere. David Lee Roth wrote the lyrics, which is a little ironic considering his many one-and-done conquests.
I disagree. I don't know the history of the song, but for me, I think this is about a girl dating a guy that expects sex - like maybe it's date 3 or whatever and he expects it to payoff. She turns him down and feels bad about it. She doesn't want him. She doesn't want a one night stand. But she feels bad about rejecting him. She wants to soften the blow with a letter, but she knows it will just lead him on and he will think he has a chance to get with her. I hear nothing that implies that she slept with him.
@@powtoast You may be right but using the lyric - Now Jamie's been in love before And she knows what love is for It should mean a little, a little more Than one-night stands. Made me believe it was one night only.
@@powtoast You're half right. She wants him, but she wants more than a one night stand and she knows that's all he's after. Hence the reason "Jamie's Crying". She wants to send him a letter expressing her true feelings, but she knows it is pointless.
Great reaction to a fantastic group !! Eddie makes that guitar “cry” ! You should do a reaction to “Little Guitars with intro” to see how diverse Eddie’s guitar playing was ….keep those Van Halen reactions coming !🔥🔥
Hold up….Hold up…. I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!! I can’t even explain how much I loved watching you both listen to that for the first time and just hearing and watching your reaction. This was great for my spirit. You guys are badass!!! I’m hooked
Our legends are dying. Eddie one of the best if not the best. It's sad to see these artists pass away but our generation said we would rock forever and we all have. Our music still sounds fresh.
As much as 1984 has its great moments, Van Halen’s first 5 albums are major “desert island albums”… Complete Gold. And Asia has herself a really nice voice .👍
I love this song! And I loved your reaction! It does stick in your head. I have niece named Jamie. When she was a kid and would get mad I’d sing this to her. “ Jamie’s crying” She’d start laughing and didn’t believe it was a real song. Thanks for the memory. That’s what music does though
This came out my senior year of high school. If this was all you heard, you wouldn’t know that the guitarist would go down as one of the greats of all time. At least until you heard Eruption!”
Keep going down that Van Halen rabbit hole! Some deep tracks that are worth checking out 1.Secrets 2.Outta Love Again 3. Girl Gone Bad 4. Atomic Punk 5. Sinner’s Swing.🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One thing that I've always loved about Van Halen is that they always kept their music fresh and interesting without compromising their trademark sound. Of course one the Young brothers from AC/DC thought VH had a definite pop music vibe to them, but I think that's bs.
I think the Youngs talking about VH was just friends ribbing each other. They drank together whenever they got a chance. They were actually tight, especially Eddie and Malcom. They pretty much loved each other.
I just subscribed to you guys so fun to watch! Eddie Van Halen can obviously play anything but at the end of the song he just played the basic melody. So simple and so perfect. RJ’s great point it sounded like Jaime was crying. Great job guys!
Wife here...My personal favorite Van Halen Jam!!!..You guys on point..!! I always perceived her (Jamie) as Heartbroken!! That full Rock Sound..AMAZING...I agree Ms. Asia that guitar always banging..Skill level off the chain!!! Super Innovative!! And Jamie's got those morals..Shout out for sure!!.
VH is my favorite band of all time. They put out 6 amazing albums in 7 years. Then lost DLR and went on another 12 year tear with a new singer Sammy. RIP Eddie!!
So many good Van Halen songs came out of the first 2 albums and Diver Down. Speaking of Diver Down - you wanna here some classic Van Halen guitars in a super cool jam with a fun vibe - listen to “Little Guitars” - be sure to play the intro that comes right before it so you can hear Eddie shred it up on the acoustical. Awe yeah!
That guitar sound you're hearing is Ed's distinctly developed 'brown' sound. Basically humbucking pickups set in to a strat body and tuned down 1/2 step...took the rock world by fricking STORM ya'll!!
I love your videos, you both have genuine reactions. It's really cool! I grew up on Van Halen and still play a lot of the older stuff on guitar. Did you know Tone Loc sampled the guitar riff and drums on Jamie's Crying for "Wild Thing"? Listen to it and you'll definitely hear it. Keep up the great video, I love them all. You both are amazing!
You guys did react to Linda Ronstadt's, Your No Good. Listen to the way Van Halen redid her song. It's just sick it is so good!!! You can only imagine how Van Halen added their own sound to it. You'll love it!
David Lee Roth said this song is basically a hard rock rumba! He and the Van Halen brothers were well-versed in jazz and swing, and it shows in many songs.
My favorite band of all time. Very astute observation on Eddie making the cry, I never thought of that. Ton Loc sampled the drum fill for Funky Cold Medina. Y'all are awesome!
Just found your channel and love your reactions! Lifelong Van Halen fan and would love to see your reactions to Mean Street - a raw, powerful song and Little Dreamer - amazing harmonies. Thanks!!!
Asia and BJ you two are the the BEST - I mean it. Asia you are so cute ad BJ you and your wife give great commentary. Van Halen is just in a class of by themselves. It seems every one of their songs are a BANGER and that's just weird. EVH is the greatest guitarist ever and there will never be another EVH, Diamond Dave is just the best front-man ever. And then you have those great background vocals mainly from Michael Anthony. I have never hear a voice like that - just incredible highs from him and harmonies from the rest of the band. Love you guys for sure!! Glad you did this one!!! You knocked it out of the park and everything you said about the band's talent is right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why their songs are so good is because of this reason. The Van Halen Brothers and Michael Anthony raised on classic rock ‘n’ roll music. David Lee Roth was in to Motown and R&B and wrote lyrics that way. The two combined made just fucking awesome songs! I recommend you guys do an album night. The first two albums should be Van Halen one and AC/DC back in Black. Love you guys God bless!
It’s not just about EVH technique but he was a pioneer when it came to the hardware of the guitar 🎸 everything He did to his guitar was customized just like a hot rod car no one else before him has ever done that before including inventing new types of amps and speakers he used to experiment with when he was younger Because of him the guitar industry has expanded and had to ask for permission on how he built all his equipment
the earlier stuf has always been the best imo. what i grew up having a brother 8 years older. still plenty of good stuff throughout the years tho for sure. thanks for hittin this band. love the vids!

Tone Loc picked up this riff for Wild Thing.
Yeah that drum roll is nasty
That drum intro i said from day 1 in '88
Totally! Very recognizable.
And they remixed it into a different melody, which is how sampling should be done.
I never noticed that but you are right,
One of Van Halen’s best songs!
Not even close, weak solo, there are much better songs from VH
Not their best but I loved it when it came out!

The incomparable Eddie Van Halen on guitar as always
Certainly one of the most exciting and energetic concerts I ever seen when they played here in Vegas in 1981.
Tone Loc sampled the drum and guitar riffs from "Jamie's Cryin' " on "Wild Thing."
Sure did and he paid for it once he got sued for using it without having permission
How can a band be so huge and still underrated? Amazing song, one of their best
