If you shoot on an L mount or other full frame cameras, what's your favorite zoom? I wanna try more out!
24-120 from Nikon Z mount
and
28-200 from Tamron FE mount
the two lenses making me lazy enough to forget to bring prime lenses
and even making me diligent to go out more often with cameras.
I have sigma 24-70 F 2.8 and lumix 24-105 F4 and these are really cool lenses. But the sigma has a sharper picture quality and a better focusing ring.
Just adding in to anyone who is "worried" about the money-spend and the lens-tech: the 20-60 is an AWESOME kit lens. You may even stop there for the time being, or get just a 50 prime afterward and call it a day. It's not quite the classic 24-70 focal range, but it is adaptable enough to work for what you get. The LUMIX brand of cameras have incredible ISO technology which pairs well with a lens that goes only as wide as 3.5. You still get decent separation and bokeh, but it works pretty well. I would argue that 3.5 CAN BE SHARP ENOUGH if you know what you're doing. Maybe not for shooting still portraits, but for video, unless a professional is watching, most people will not care about that part. Maybe you can't film local bands with it like I do for fun, unless there's front-lighting on the stage with lights, but you can definitely vlog in most daytime and dusk conditions.
Thank you for sharing this nugget. I just got the s5ii with kit lens and I spent quite some time learning the camera as well as researching my next lens. After readin this comment, i decided to stick with the kit lens and work with it until i get to some level before i invest in my next lens.
@@_eugenechia that’s excellent!! I intended my comment to help with that exact purpose
Exactly what I did and after a week so far it’s been amazing
what are your shooting settings for video? this video looks crisp. When I shoot in vlog it doesn't look as sharp. ( I have an s5iix btw)
between the sigma 28-70 and panasonic 24-105 for travel photography :/
The 24-105 is an awesome beast. Highly recommanded.
Good choices, good video. The new 28-200 Lumix zoom is pretty sweet! Just picked it up. Perfect for travel. I'd consider it in my top-3. The f4 -f7.1 f-stop is not a big deal when using outside on vacation (daytime, lots of light). My 24-105 and 20-60 will stay at home this trip... My 16-35mm f4 and the 28-200 are all I need for this vacation.
My go to lenses are the 20-60mm kit lens and the 85mm 1.8 for vlogging/photos and the Lumix S Pro 24-70mm f2.8 for client work.
L mount really needs some smaller lenses and/or pancakes. We have nothing but beefy lenses for this mount.
agree, I would love a pancake option for sure
Hey ✌i've desidet against the zoom Lens 20-60mm. I use only two Prime Lenses 18mm and the 50mm but in some situations it's quite nice to have the zoom.
Thanks for another great Video Nigel.
Yeah zoom is my go to for most things but i do love a good set of primes!
J'ai fais l'acquisition d'un S5 iix avec sigma 30mm f1.4 L-mount. Cela enregistre en APS-C. Pourquoi le FF n'est pas activé Oo
I got the Lumix 20-60mm in a kit with the S5IIx as well as the 50mm F1.8. I wasn't happy with the sharpness/detail on the 20-60mm so I bought the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 which is razor sharp. But when I'm doing color grading, I now add a slight blur to the image because everything looks too sharp for the film look I always go for. And in the end I get a similar result as I had with 20-60. I convince myself that buying Sigma was a good move because of the low light. But on the other hand, the S5IIx is so good in low light that I had great results with the 20-60mm as well. Low light is not no light. When I shoot at night in the city, there are always some lights and I don't like it when they are blown out. In the end, I have to admit that the 20-60mm is a very good combo with the S5 series of cameras.
EXACTLY. 20-60mm isn't sharp but thats why it's slightly cheaper but a great kit lens!
The kit lens was my go to for a while. But switched over to the sigma 28-70 f2.8 and really love the size and quality it gives for the price. I’m sure it does wonders on the S5ii.
What is the autofocus performance like on the S5 with this sigma? Worse than a native lens or is it on par?
What an outro!
so im trying to decide to get the sigma or lumix lens and i have an S5 any suggestions? I have vintage lenses so i kinda want this one for auto focus features
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I own 20-60mm and 24-105mm. Many dislike 20-60mm because of image quality, but I found it's pretty good :) What are yours impressions comparing it to Sigma?
Yeah the 20-60 is a great starter lens, not perfect but pretty decent for the price
excellent advises, thx !
Bought a used sigma dg dn28-70 f 2.8 for 609$ instead of 24-70 sigma art. Cheaper way lighter so perfect on gimbal. Despite i was going for the art sigma 24-70 I'm so happy i choose the 28-70 no difference in vidéo.
The used market is FLOODED with this kit lens. Only a complete moron would buy it stand alone new. In Australia, the kit lens is actually free with the camera!
Nigel x WB 🤝
1. Lumix 20-60. Very good lens, but the lack of an aperture like f4 all the way made me sell it quickly. Also VERY STIFF zoom rings !!
2. 24-105, excellent quality, with ibis, but heavy, and with stiff zoom rings also. (not like 20-60, but annoying).
Now I use this lens (24-105), but for the 2 reasons I mentioned, I would "rate" it 4 out of 5.
The lens lineup still sucks but the kit lens is ridiculous good!!!
what camera strap are you working with?
Nice job. Good product compare as always.
What make the shots just right the sooter the camera and a Good Lenses
damn i am between the 28-70 or the 24-105 is the size difference between these two significant? I am looking to video 9-10 year old soccer games maybe the 105 reach will be needed or should the 70 be enough?
The 24-105 stays on my S5ii. With the ability to switch to shoot 4k 60fps cropped, this lens is nearly 24-160.
It would be amazing for sports videography, and I'm finding it very useful for nearly everything else as well.
Its been awhile since I saw your videos
what cage you are using?
2nd comment: hey Nigel, quick question. There's an added focus grip on your 28-70, where can I get one of these? It might be really nice to have for the hands.
or I guess it's a "focus rubber ring" or something. There's geared versions on B&H i think?
What’s it like pulling manual focus on the Sigma and the Panasonic 24-105? I’ve been trying to find a good zoom for my S1 and then you make this video, great timing!
I'd say the their about the same when it comes to pulling focus, both are great options!
Leses are very trick and versatile great video Nigel
S1h or Fx3?
Anyone else’s s5ii card door sort of wobbly? I notice it creak and move when my hand is on it taking photos.
Same issue 😢
@@kaktamdela now I keep getting card write issues on my s5ii. I’m not sure if this has something to do with it or not.
My favorite lens is the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 L mount, I also own the Lumix 85mm f1.8 and the next lens I would like to buy is the Lumix 70-300mm
Nice! I'm going eventually start trying out those lumix primes!
Sigma 28-70 is my favorite!
yeah that's pretty much what is on my S5IIX all the time now haha
These lenses look kinda boring and expansive 😅😅😅
zoom lenses can be for sure, and the problem is the L mount is still relatively new when it comes to third party lines but hopefully soon there will be more good options!
The lens line up is one of the weakest and most ‘boring’ I think and I say that as an L Mount user. The Sigma 28-70mm f2.8 plus Lumix 70-200mm f4 are my primary pairing but I have had many others.
There are many Sony users eyeing up Lumix if they ever release a camera with FF 4K60 no crop, but the fact that they don’t even make a 16-35 2.8 is going to be a tough sell.
