Fredro’s betrayal was really shocking because he was Michael’s brother and that he was killed for it made Mike seem much darker killing a blood relative.

It’s saying something when I can’t even remember any of the antagonists from Part III outside of Eli Wallach.

Carlo a threat? He could only show his toughness by beating on Connie.

The most dangerous enemy is not the external enemy, the most dangerous enemy is the intefnal, the one from the intimate circle.

I always felt that Licio Lucchesi was a bit of a caricature - like, they tried so hard to make him badder than Roth that he came across like a bit of a comedy villain to me.,,,

Excellent ranking. I guessed right that the number 1 enemy was Fredo. "Family Betrayal" is the most dangerous and worse thing you can experience

Ironic that Barzini said "It's not like the old days when we could do what we want". That was exactly Barzini's ultimate goal: Remove the Corleones, becoming the boss of all bosses, and therefore be in the position to do whatever HE wants.

    *DRUMROLL*
    Himself.

The way I see is that out of all of Michael's enemies the toughest and the one who damaged Michael was Hyman Roth because although Michael won against Roth but Roth damaged Michael like having his(Michael's) brother Fredo betray his own brother then Michael had to kill his own brother, because of Roth's wits, his wife Kay found out who Michael really is then took their kids and separated Michael so their kids won't get involved in the mafia life and as result from Roth's wits Michael suffered the consequences in GF Part III when the mafia life came back to haunt him, with Altobello, the corruption of the Catholic Church, he repented for killing his brother and his daughter's death.

Actually, the most dangerous enemy to Michael was . . .
      . . .
      . . . wait for it!
      Tom Hagen.
"What?" Apparently, the original idea for the titled "The Death of Michael Corleone" third film was that Tom, finally, realized Michael could not be their father and was a liability. It is subtle in the second film, but we see how ruthless Tom has quietly become. After all, he is the one who has a prostitute murdered to reel in the senator.
      But.
The Suits did not want to pay Duvall like they would pay Pachino, and Duvall felt insulted. So like Clemenza, he "died" prior to the film, and we went from an Awesome Film to, well, what we got.
      "But GF II IS Awesome!"
Imagine if it was Clemenza rather than Frankie. Now I liked Frankie, but Clemenza feeling betrayed by Michael has so many levels of tragedy. A film where Tom takes out Michael? Possibly with help from Connie? That is so many levels of awesome just never was allowed to happen.

@@DoctorX101 Actually had Robert Duvall had been in GF Part III it would have been interesting being that Tom Hagen would have betrayed Michael being that how weak Michael was in part III but the root of Michael's weakness came from Hyman Roth who damaged Michael in so many ways into what he became in Part III especially his daughter's death.

Don't get me wrong, an enemy within is very dangerous; but Michael's most formidable enemy was Sicily itself!!!! He knew how to deal with people in the US but Italy was another story altogether.

Eli Wallach had the worst Mexican& Italian accents in all of filmdom. i think Enzo the Baker is the most underrated character in The Godfather and was the one who opened the blinds in Michael's bedroom.

If Don Lucchesi was a truly formidable enemy, it never appeared that way. Due to the poor storyline and acting in the Godfather Part III. My personal choice for Top Three Enemies would be Hyman Roth, Carlo Rizzi and Fredo Corleone. Roth did everything in his power to make Michael see him as the kindly Father Figure. The Havana Deal was nothing more than a ruse to avenge the death of Moe Greene at Michael's hands. Once the hit on Michael failed, he successfully angered Greene with his questioning of the attempted hit on Frank Pentangeli. All but openly admitting his own complicity to Michael. In one fell swoop, Roth goes from Genius to Dunce. Nearly as dangerous as Fredo to Michael and Vitos power was the Lecherous, Wife Beating, Traitorous, BACK STABBING, BASTARD CARLO RIZZI. Protected by Italian tradition, Carlo is safe from retaliation for the Atrocities committed against Connie. This " Peach of a Guy" manages to have Sonny assassinated by Don Barzini. This one act leaves the Corleone Family on the brink of collapse. With Michael in hiding, only Fredo remains at Vitos side. Like having Bozo the Clown as your personal protector. Of course, Corleone Enemy Number One is Fredo Corleone himself. Fredo is a true " Triple Threat." STUPID, JEALOUS AND GREEDY!! More dangerous than anyone else because he is at the heart of the inner circle. Too weak to be feared. Too stupid to be trusted. Had Fredo had his shit halfway together, Don Corleone would not have been sent to his Sick Bed at all. Fumbling Paulies Phony Call Out and his own Hand Gun during the Hit. All the family misery was a Domino Effect stemming from this one event. Later after rising to the Pinnacle of Power, Michael is again nearly brought to his knees by his dim-witted Sibling. Eagerly swallowing Hyman Roths Stack of Baloney. Michael sinks to the lowest depths, executes Fredo and loses the remainder of his family in the process. Proving the most dangerous enemy of all, is the one you trust the most. Especially the one totally undeserving of any trust at all.

I dont see why?? The angle to the banco Ambrosianao, the Vatican scandal was well put.
Oil and water don't mix (friends and business partners).
The killing of joey Zaza and the helicopter scene was too Hollywood.
And the donkey braying at the end was too much.
Sophia Coppola played the innocent kid well, I think.

HISTORY ALWAYS PUNISHES THE GLORIFICATION OF CRIMINALITY
Don't believe it? Take a look at America rotting in crime 50 years after "The Godfather" series.
