    I just started using a 5 foot fitec super spreader here in Ohio and I love it!

      That’s a good net and they come in a 1 inch mesh which is really good to catch this cutter size gizzard shad!! Thanks for watching

    I have a 4' x 3/8"', 8' x 3/8", 10' x 1/4", 10' x 1/2", 10' x 1", and a 10' x 5/8" taped from Fitec, Betts, and Barracuda. I fish for crappie, cats, and striper, which require different bait sizes, and the bait can be at varying depths according to time of the year. A net is a tool, and you have to have the right tool for the job at hand!

    still learning to throw one good but i don't give up when i get better i'll get a bigger net

    • @slungercatoutdoors
      @slungercatoutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah don’t give up and honestly sometimes it’s easier to throw a bigger net than a small one. I know that doesn’t sound right but believe it is. Thanks for watching

    Chris I hate it when the shad I catch get hung up in my cast net. I then have to sit there and pluck each one out by hand. They then of course die right away. Yeah, I've snagged and tore up a few cast nets in my time. Comes with the territory. Good luck out there and be safe!

      Lol nothing like pulling a net up and it looking like a Christmas tree. Thanks for watching!!

      Just borrow your buddy's net and put it back in his boat with the hung up shad still in it. ......Be sure and tell thanks and remember to never let him use YOUR net.😂😂
      (Same with fingerling catfish. Just leave them)

    What are your go to net sizes Chris?

  • @flippindocks8183
    @flippindocks8183 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is the smallest shad size that a 1/2" mesh will safely catch without gill netting them? (Threads and Gizz)

    Hi Chris! I recently ordered a Fitec GS 1000, 8’x1” mesh, 1 pound per foot cast net, BUT it has plastic coated steel weights instead of lead weights. It was less than $50. I was wondering if there’s any disadvantages to the non lead weights?

    • @slungercatoutdoors
      @slungercatoutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question Matt and yes there is a slight disadvantage as they sink slower than actual lead but it will do just fine most of the time. Not to mention that’s a killer deal at 50$!!! Thanks for watching

    I teach youth fishing in 4-H. I'd love to hold a class on how to throw a cast net. The kids would love it. Do you have a recommendation on a good net for kids 8 to 14?

    • @ryanboodhoo3512
      @ryanboodhoo3512 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A smaller net would do personally amazon has some good cheap nets i would think something in the 4-6 foot range would work i can link one if you have trouble deciding

  • @davidwalker6438
    @davidwalker6438 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey Chris, do you have a video of how to load and throw a Taped net? I can throw a regular net without issue, but get my butt kicked by a taped one. About 1 out of every 20 throws I actually get it to open. And a 7 foot net at 1.6 lbs per foot, That will wear you out.

    • @slungercatoutdoors
      @slungercatoutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I don't but will definitely do that for you.
