Get a Sigma MC21 adapter for EF to L lenses. The. You have a great choice of inexpensive but great quality lenses. I’d go for a Canon 24-105 f4 or if you like something wider perhaps 17-40 f4 L. Both are great optically and stabilised.
So, how did this go, you posted the video, they saw it let you know there was a big discount? OR You posted and went to find the link and saw the discount? How do you know the discount is just for today? I can't find that information on the page.
I scheduled the video because I’ve been wanting to make this video for a while now, and Blackmagic just happened to do their discount today completely separately, which worked out perfectly. I can’t remember where I read it was a one day only thing. I know it’s definitely a time-dependent sale for sure
Dude! Thanks for the Davinci tutorial along with the detailed camera overview. I took advantage of the sale to nab this camera, just as I did 11 years ago. I hemmed and hawed over other cameras, mainly the S5iix for BRAW out since I own the BM VA 12G. But in the end, I love their menus and the whole sensor in a box routine. I was going to go with Pyxis, but the value at this price is too much. Also, with the Pyxis I'd want the viewfinder and that's more than the 6k FF camera! The only thing I would like is IBIS, but I'm hoping that the gyro data can help with that. I'll be using Contax glass (Duclos EF) so hoping that will be my ticket. But you hit it, it's the BM look that has some filmic magic so all those other features are just...noise really.
@@ThatGuyOverThereWeird I love the Video Assist, I've been using with my Pocket OG for a few years. I thought it was interesting that Panasonic S5iix could record BRAW to it.

Hey! Have you ever use Super 16 glass on this Full Frame 6k on the Super 16 mode? Or shot on it in general? Wondering what the image is like, noise etc. And also: Do you know if it's IR filter is more resistant to mold than the Pocket 6k and 4k? (Which are very prone to that in more humid environments.
I have no idea how the mold resistance is, but I'll keep an eye on it going forward, thanks for the heads up. Michigan isn't terribly humid year round but I'll definitely keep in mind anyway here. As far as 16mm glass- I haven't tried it on this sensor, but I'm sure it would work great, especially since it's l-mount and you can adapt almost anything. The noise will seem "bigger" than in a higher res mode but honestly when shooting with 16mm glass you might actually want to go for a 16mm film look with extra grain. Does your BMCC6k FF Unit have any Fix Pattern Noise / Horizontal Banding Noise Issues? I am interested in purchasing this camera but basically every single review/video I've seen so far of this camera since it's release has mentioned awful fix pattern noise, noise smearing, and noise banding issues. You are literally the only person I've ever heard say they like the noise, and have not brought up any issues. Are you aware of these issues and fully confident that none are present in your model? Have you used other BMPCC6k variants and have a point of reference for the noise output? I am really interested in this camera but the noise issues are a complete deal breaker.
I actually didn't notice any FPN or banding in any of the footage I shot. I'll test this further in the next couple of weeks though, I know some people have certainly noticed it in their BMCC6ks. I'm wondering if it's been helped with firmware updates maybe? Maybe sensor calibration helps? All things I would like to test out and get answers to. The look of the normal grain itself I am very attracted to, I know that for sure
@@jakehayden998 I feel like it kinda jumps right out at you, so if you haven't noticed it yet your camera probably doesn't have it. Unless you haven't really used the camera much yet, in that case I would really appreciate it if you shot a couple lowlight scenes all at different ISO's and posted it to TH-cam! I'm sure it would be interesting for a lot of people to see, considering the only stuff on YT about this camera and it's lowlight capabilities shows the HVBN issue.
I've had mine since early December last year and not noticed any such issues so I wonder if it is a problem just affecting some units, and I always check all my footage projected big after grading to make sure there are no issues that might be harder to notice on the 24 inch screen I edit on. I always make sure to light properly when shooting in low light conditions though.
@@Fedorevsky if you're properly lighting your scene then you won't see it, thankfully. But it's definitely there in low light situations. I've experienced it with under exposed footage with ISO 800 footage shooting into a bight window with a dark interior in front. I haven't seen it with the second circuit yet, ISO 1250. It seems like the technical term is CMOS smearing.
I actually haven't tested any external recording options but I can look into this in the next couple of weeks. That would be weird if you couldn't get external prores out of a Ninja V or something
Have you tried the gyro stabilization? Which cameras with IBIS have you used and which ones do you prefer? I'm always curious which IBIS systems people like
@@jakehayden998 the gyro on 6K is awesome. I have tested loads of cameras and all the systems have their strengths and weaknesses. Some, like sony, are better for wide lenses and struggle with telephoto. Some are better with telephoto and not great wide like Canon and Fuji. I find Nikon, Panasonic and Olympus to be sort of a sweet spot for stabilisation. Sony has a benefit of gyro, but the implementation is far from perfect as the the stabilised file re-encoded through Catalyst loose a lot of original quality. I like using OIS lenses but always find that there is little benefit in ibis equipped bodies. Somethings I would even conseder a ois lens a hinderance and I would wish I could choose between an OIS and IBIS but no camera offers this. With Blackmagic I kind of have a choice because if I need a different kind if stabe all I have to do I turn of the OIS and crank the shutter a bit and Gyro will take care of the rest.
After reviewing all those cameras, which one would you purchase today under 2000$. I have the bmcc6k, s5iix, sigma fp, r6ii and fx30 in my cart lol , im just browsing youtube and vimeo looking at image quality, but just wanna know what you think. Thanks.
Depends if you want true run and gun, or want to rig it up. As tempting as the BMCC deal is, the "one man band" ability of the S5II(X) is a better fit for me.
Sigma FP is limited in many ways like frame rates and dynamic. R6II has a benefit of full frame 4K60 but it’s also has poor dynamic range in clog3 in comparison to other modern cameras. S5IIX is pretty solid apart from forced crop in 4K60 and autofocus although good can be improved. FX30 is pretty great but it’s a step down to crop sensor territory. You could go for ZV-E1 which is a baby fx3 with better stabe and AF. It’s almost perfect as long as you don’t shoot long form in hot environments.
@@LiveMyJourneyTom thanks! It was between the s5iix and the fx30, and went with the fx30, strictly off pricing and autofocus. The s5iix was what i wanted, but i watched over 100 TH-cam videos and that autofocus its finicky, and as a person that records himself i can risk it autofocus on a tree branch for my 30 minute rants 😂. Thanks
With the sale price, it's a no-brainer. It's the PYXIS in an uglier body. It's wild that you can get a 6k cinema camera for $1,600 now. Most movie projectors still project in 2k.
Definitely true, I used to think it was entirely pointless to go over 4k, but recently I've really been enjoying the flexibility in crop modes and the effect oversampling has on reducing visible noise
@@jakehayden998 oversampling also helps in getting better color reproduction (a 6K Bayer sensor produces a 4K resolution image and a 3K full RGB pixel image)
@@jakehayden998 Yeah I don't get this complaint either personally in my use case, but maybe it's not being able to put a battery on the back because of the screen? I dunno. Great video!
Hot Take: it’s the S1H, arguably the best IMX410-based camera to date that will be the cult camera in a few years. I mean, Pyxis finally put the IMX410 in a box camera, but the S1H has 5-axis IBIS and a better build than this “pocket-body” 6K FF from BMD.
BUt what about the image it produces? The biggest thing I think alot of people over look. Like I seen alot of people say "Get the Lumix (I dont even remember which one) It's open gate Ibis and cheaper!" But when I watched test footage of the camera.I was not a fan of what I saw. I adore black magic because the image quality is insane. And there is very few cameras on the market who has internal raw. Let alone at that price range.
@@BreonnickThat's because Red owns the patent for internal RAW video. Blackmagic got away with it because their B-RAW is not actually RAW... It just behaves more like RAW than say MP4 or H.265
@@Breonnick The image is impeccable. 10-bit V-Log is perfectly capable of containing the IMX410’s dynamic range and color fidelity. While “raw” is a nice boon, it’s really not necessary with that sensor. “What about the image?” That you can’t even remember which LUMIX says a lot, they may look the same on the outside or even the spec sheet, but there are a LOT of sensor implementation differences in the LUMIX S-line cameras. The OLPF makes a massive difference in the S1H’s video image quality versus other S-cams.

I scheduled the video because I’ve been wanting to make this video for a while now, and Blackmagic just happened to do their discount today completely separately, which worked out perfectly.
I can’t remember where I read it was a one day only thing. I know it’s definitely a time-dependent sale for sure
"but only some of us love"
But you hit it, it's the BM look that has some filmic magic so all those other features are just...noise really.
you recommend getting the video assist? I got this deal and the s5ii
@@ThatGuyOverThereWeird I love the Video Assist, I've been using with my Pocket OG for a few years. I thought it was interesting that Panasonic S5iix could record BRAW to it.
@@dollhausenx can you control the black magic camera with video assist? Mainly toggle autofocus on screen, record button, false colors? Trying to record myself so not behind the camera.
Maybe I'll do a video on this in the future
Hey, great video! Any lens recommendation for the full frame?
Just bought the 4k.... Now Wondering if i should have just shelled out the extra
The 4k is really awesome too, really depends on the lenses you’re using I think. What lenses do you have?
@@jakehayden998 mostly older vintage lenses that I have adapted to either EF or N and put on a speed booster ( I have both of the metabones bmpcc EF and n versions because I have the og also) or just directly to mft

what camera was the talking head stuff shot on?
Canon c200 and Leica Elmarit-R 35mm

@willkeiser215 it’s an old vintage lens that uses Leica R mount so I had to pick up an L mount to R mount adapter
Price cut today. Good call.
I was so shocked this morning when I saw that, what a coincidence
So no external recording to prores? Weird
I actually haven't tested any external recording options but I can look into this in the next couple of weeks. That would be weird if you couldn't get external prores out of a Ninja V or something
@@jakehayden998 Thanks. I’ve looked for it. Can’t find any info. But if you can you can use this camera for clients who need prores.
@@carpballet It's my understanding that the HDMI out is capped at 1080p so not really a compelling option on a 6K body.
@@oedipax4 Thanks. Personally I think that’s not cool for black magic to do. I understand why (I think) but still not cool.
i farted into clut cassic
Were you able to look into the future?
i wish someday they put IBIS on bmpcc..
no AF no problem, for me
Have you tried the gyro stabilization? Which cameras with IBIS have you used and which ones do you prefer? I'm always curious which IBIS systems people like
@@jakehayden998S1H IBIS is amazing even years later
@@A388Flyer thank you responding ♥️
Thanks
Originally I was gonna save up for the Pyxis..... but the full frame at 1500. Yea you got a deal black magic.
I know, I totally picked one up too. Hard to pass that one up
@@jakehayden998 Maybe ill get the pyxis if they do this with that camera in the near future.
I'm so tempted even tho i really want the Pyxis
For double the price
The pocket is the best gimbal camera.
Diode is my #2 favorite
I’ve got a lot of noise in my hair too
@jx3Mom that’s your best one yet, mom
Oh, you have shots of me 😂
Does it have AutoFocus?
yes but it's not the greatest. It doesnt constantly track faceses. You hit a button and trys to focus in on the shot and that's it.
@@jakehayden998 oversampling also helps in getting better color reproduction (a 6K Bayer sensor produces a 4K resolution image and a 3K full RGB pixel image)
if only it was built to last.....
Honestly, I hate using this camera due to lack of ergonomics. Picture quality is fantastic.
What part of the ergonomics are challenging? The screen placement or the grip or what?
@@jakehayden998 Yeah I don't get this complaint either personally in my use case, but maybe it's not being able to put a battery on the back because of the screen? I dunno. Great video!

So exciting

yep 1600 us dollars promo :) not money :(
Hot Take: it’s the S1H, arguably the best IMX410-based camera to date that will be the cult camera in a few years.
@@Breonnick agree, in all tests that I have seen so far, the image quality of BM 6K FF is better than the one from S1H internal recording.
@@Studiotek Arri has there own raw codec too for the very same reason. But blackmagic and Z cam are the only two companys that I know of doing that in this price range of cameras. Hopefully now that Nikon owns Red. They will chill the fuck down with the patent trolling.
