    I've used VCDS for my check engine light and got the P11AD code for the cam 3 times on cylinder 4. The shop I had to run codes, just in case, said they came back with the actuator code instead of the sensor. Another OBDII scan got what I did. Should this fix that code or should I go with what they are saying and it possibly be the actuator or gasket? 2011 Q5 3.2. Only symptom is on initial cold start a rough idle that goes away. Thank you so much if you can help!

    That's great!!! Thank you for taking the time out to make a quick video. Any suggestions on what to do or check for if the code comes up again after replacing the crankshaft sensor? Or if my car still has to crank for about 3 seconds before it turns over?
    Thank you

      If you take your sensor out and there will be no spacers under it, your problem is not with this sensor... but if there is a spacer, measure the spacer and try to reduce the thickness of it. Make sure not to take the spacer out with out making sure that the sensor is not going to rub against flywheel with out the spacer...

    • @vedadsiljkovic8684
      @vedadsiljkovic8684 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow...never thought of the spacer being the cause of the problem . I'm almost 100% sure that it is either missing the spacer or the spacer Is too think. I will try to check it tomorrow. Thank you man. You're a great

      Missing the spacer most likely not going to cause a problem, unless you take it out and see that it was rubbing against flywheel... some models don't have the spacer in there... there have to be space between the sensor, just sometimes it's too much space...

    • @vedadsiljkovic8684
      @vedadsiljkovic8684 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      EDGEMOTORS thanks. Do you know if spacer comes with sensor for 2006 a6 c6 ? But I guess either way, the space has to be right and that is probably what is causing the 2-3 seconds cranking before it turns over ?

    Thumbs up guys, way to get the camera in there, its hard enough to just get your hand and a light in there, so you definitely deserve an A+ for effort. Now can anyone tell me where the Crankshaft Position Sensor is on a 1995 A6 2.8 FWD so i can change it? Also if i get the VAG COM adapter cable that goes from the OBD I White and Black ports in the engine bay fuse box, will it connect to a OBD II scanner my friend got from his Snap-on rep? Thanks, Milo

    Hello, Great video, to bad my A6 is older, I believe it is a 1995 A6 C4 (2.8L FWD) and i have a CRANK, but NO SPARK, NO START issue. I have replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor (once last year (10-2017)and that solved my problem until this past weekend when the car just stopped while driving), I have replaced the Camshaft Position Sensor again (11-21-2018) but it just cranks, NO SPARK, NO START. I got a Crankshaft Position Sensor (IE: Engine Speed Sensor) today but i can't seem to find it and as the 1995 was the year when many things changed (mine is early so it has OBD I & R12 where as later 1995 A6's had OBS II & R34, just to name two major differences). ANY HELP YOU CAN PROVIDE, DIAGRAMS, NOTES, COMMENTS, INSTRUCTIONS on either 1. How to trace what is causing the NO SPARK or 2. How to find the Crankshaft Position Sensor WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. THANK YOU, Milo

      Have you checked for spark?

    • @ryanmacewen511
      @ryanmacewen511 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      EDGEMOTORS I’m honestly not sure how? Leads are so short and hard to the coil. If I pull one away and insert a plug, and ground anode, not sure there is room. Car was running rough, so I cleaned out plug wells of oil, and plugs of oil. Took it for test drive, odd starting, but ran with much more power. Parked it for night. Got up for work, hard starting to no starting. I suspected Pump module, but after powering tank pump directly, it still would not start. Starting fluid just in front of throttle blades didn’t yield any start. I opened throttle part way to draw in vapors. after sitting and trying to start for a 1/2 sec I hear a slight metallic noise from under the hood. (Sounded like possibly from mechanical pump?). Brief noise only reoccurs after some rest, not with immediately trying to restart. I have a VCDS WiFi, but I’m soo new to using it to even see rail pressure. I cleared data since I unplugged coils and pump. Maybe a dumb move. Need to do lots homework. Any tips for checking spark on the 3.2?

    • @EDGEMOTORS
      @EDGEMOTORS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, if you spray starting fluid and it still don’t start, it’s not fuel problem... or most likely not. Does the engine sound normal when cranking? Or a bit too easy going???
      Did you spray starting fluid right into throttle body? Were the spark plugs oiled it’s fuel when you took them out?
      WiFi vcds has USB port, you could use it just like the regular one... just download the software and plug it in. See if you have camshaft position sensor codes.....

    • @ryanmacewen511
      @ryanmacewen511 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      EDGEMOTORS I first sprayed into the plastic ducting close to filter. I then sprayed onto the butterfly, but not into the intake with blades open. Engine sounds normal when cranking, except for a quick mechanical clank, if first cranked after a rest. I did see a camshaft position A, and B code in one of my scans. I also saw code for intake runner module. I thought I would pull them and clean or swap. Local parts store only had one cam sensor on hand, not two or I’d have changed them out. Didn’t make the run there yet. I also have a 2007 A6, and thought to swap them, but they differ. Yes my VCDS does have USB as well. I’ll try the laptop tomorrow. Plugs looked mostly normal color, crusty, tan at electrode. I cleaned off with emery cloth. Only ceramic was oily on a few as well as the coils packs. I sprayed and wiped them out with electrical contact cleaner. No plugs were wet with fuel. I also did not notice any fuel smell, aside from Ether. I found a small broken vacuum line near HP pump. I was thinking pulling HP pump and looking at it.

    • @EDGEMOTORS
      @EDGEMOTORS  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if you had camshaft position sensor codes, I’m pretty positive there is a timing issue... don’t bother changing cam position sensors... it won’t help.... there is probably a timing chain issue.
      Check compression.

    I have a 2011 Audi A5 Quattto, it was part of a mass lawsuit for defective timing chain tensioner. I wasn't informed when I bought it. So when it broke, it destroyed my timing chain, destroyed my head, etc. I had the heads redone, replaced all timing parts, replaced crankshaft sensor, camshaft sensor, high pressure fuel pump, normal fuel pump, and replaced the unit that the normal fuel pump connects to in back seat. However, when I start it, it cranks and turns over multiple times before finally starting. Every few minutes it has a studder or small shake, or if I stop fast it will studder like it is about to die. Doesn't have normal power when you first accelerate. The ECP light and check engine light is on. I didn't realize that the crank sensor needs to be relearned or reprogrammed, would that cause my problem? I've replaced fuel lines, every sensor under the hood, etc. Only thing I haven't replaced is the computer. So only thing left i can think of is that the timing was done incorrectly, or the crank and cam sensor wasn't relearned????

    Great video. One question, on a 2010 Audi 3.2 Q5, some other videos show 3 other so-called "Cam Shaft Position" sensors. Are these actually something else? One such sensor is located front - right corner of the intake manifold. What sensor is that? Thank you again!

    • @crislabossiere6234
      @crislabossiere6234 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      on your engine there are 4 cam shaft position sensors. Two on each bank. One for exhaust, one for intake cam. The intake cam sensors are on the forward inner upper corners of each bank. The exhaust sensors are slightly rearward of centre of the block on the outside wall of the cam deck, below the level of the coils. The four sensors are identical.

      Same problem except i have a 1995 A6 2.8L and i have changed the ignition Coils in 2011, the Camshaft Position Sensor in 2017 and now i am about to change the Crankshaft Position Sensor.....If i could only find it, I don't have a Bentley Publishing manual and my "local" dealer that is 76 miles away one way, has no clue as they mostly deal in VW's (They don't seem to grasp the idea that both car brands come from the same design place), so i am stuck looking online for a answer. Did you have any luck finding out what your problem was? @@edgarcastaneda9086 Hello, I have called it a night for today, i really need to find the Crankshaft Position Sensor location (it must be somewhere on the bell housing as the sensor has to get feedback from the flywheel so there are only some many spots that it can be, but in the 2-3 hours i spent on it today after work I was not able to find it. I changed the Camshaft Position Sensor again, and still no spark, no start but it cranks no problem. My big concern is why am i only getting 10.74 Volts off the harness that plugs into the CPS, this should be 12 Volt, the signal is good at 5.04 Volts and the ground is good at 0.01, i will try again tomorrow before getting a lift to my families house for Thanksgiving dinner so if you think of any ideas, or you know where the Crankshaft Position Sensor is on a 1995 Audi A6 2.8 liter FWD then please leave me a comment, Thank You and Happy Thanksgiving

      Oh, i haven't used the alarm in forever, but if i lock the car it does make that quaking Audi arming alarm sound so i think we can rule that out. I am running a crap ton of other stuff like a Sony MEX-5DI headunit with a 1200 Watt Rockford Fosgate 2 channel amplifier pushing two 15" RF Punch subs and a 1600 watt 4 channel Rockford Fosgate amplifier driving six RF 4 3/4" speakers & two 3-way 5x7 Pioneer speakers, also connected is a Sony x300 unit that allows additional input from RCA or 2.5mm jacks as well as a Sony 10-Disc Changer, a 1500 Watt Power Inverter and that about completes all the aftermarket add ons, everything is stock and aside from the center council light by the sunroof switch sometimes not coming on no electrical issues have been detected. I am thinking about ordering a VAG COM adapter cable to go from the OBD I ports on my Audi and connect to a newer Snap-on scanner but that comes from Germany and will take 4-6 weeks as the one place that sells them doesn't offer overnight service at any price, well, that is about it, Thanks for looking into this and Happy Thanksgiving. Try to swap the cam adjuster solenoids side to side, and see if the problem doesn’t follow, most likely timing chain tensioner will need to be replaces

    Can the position sensor be responsible for the car stalling?

      Yes it could you have to scan it and see if you have codes for crankshaft position sensor

      It could work intermittently, the car can run off of camposition sensors, just replace the sensor and you should be ok, unless someone replaced the engine and put a wrong flywheel on:)

      thanks. I have a 2006 a4 3.2 and it dies when sitting too long idling. when I start it up back up and try to drive off it kinda bogs and I leave the pedal matted down until it stops sputtering and I've got full power back and it'll drive fine as long as I'm not idling too long. any ideas what it may be?

      This car should start with bad crank sensor… just longer crank time and codes… it will use cam position sensors to run. If it don’t start, you may have a different issue
