It's really amazing how much dirt that 550 moves and how much progress you can make in a few days.

Intoxicating to follow the progress of this project.
"Remind" versus "teach" - Robert shows to be (is) solid help.
The owner - David - has been a huge help as well on his project.

A scoop here and a scoop there, and all of a sudden there is a great looking dam and pond. Magic before our eyes, and so great to have Chris take us along for another of his creations.
    Smooth as clockwork.
You, and we, are gonna miss the 550. Awesome machine.

Thanks LetsDig18 for bringing us the world of the Volvo 550 excavator - these last series of videos have been brilliant. The amount of dirt moved in just a short time is amazing where it has been manipulated to form two huge pond dams. Perspectives given were much appreciated and interesting. Great work.

I can't help but keep saying it - that 550 has really allowed you to get this particular pair of ponds done so fast. Glad that Volvo allowed you to demo that thing for these ones - made super quick work of them for sure.

Do love the Volvo 550E! An awesome machine! I was watching the skies for that Chinese "weather balloon" in the skies behind the 550E that passed over North Carolina today. Apparently a no go. That would have been an awesome video shot! Wrapping up on this project, Chris and looking forward to viewing the next!

The 550 sure did it’s job. The fuel consumption using your excavator would have been sky high compared to the amount of dirt moved not to count the hours you shortened with the 550. I actually enjoyed watching the 550 change the landscape on this job and seeing Cottontop help out. I bet you’ll be ready to get this job behind you and on to your next one.

Wish I was on a fun job like this. But no, I'm stuck digging a sewer main line that's a 12-23 feet deep trench in the street with gas lines, electric lines, and water mains crossing - not to mention the power lines hanging above, and all of the traffic going by less than 15 feet away next to me, lol.

Best Channel on the Web ! Sitting, watching and thinking back to the early days when I began my journey in Civil Construction. 1970, when a pilot motor was sometimes a necessity to begin your day, an old Fordson, six stick backhoe and of course the trusty shovel, more times than not with a 60lb jackhammer. And in any spare-time study plans, and learn all facets of surveying. Whatever it took to broaden one's knowledge. Did I forget to mention pipe-laying, pit building, be it stormwater or sewer, sometimes concrete culverts.
You make this ole Aussie bloke as happy as a pig in, ?? well, you can guess ! Again, many thanks and the best of wishes mate. 👍👍🍺🍺🐓🐓(Rooster, is my nick-name bestowed on me.)

Front slopes have been extremely steep on both these ponds. A gentle front slope will make for a stronger damn. The water has more area to able downward pressure.this helps hold the damn in place. If the front face was completely vertical all the pressure would be acting horizontally on the damn trying to push it over. The more slop the less horizontal force.

Dirt perfect has nothing to compare with what that 550 can do. Let's dig 18 wow what a wonderful machine that is. I have a few questions to ask
Question 1: How much does it cost to move the 550 from 1 project to another?
Question 2: How much if you can answer does a 550 cost? Question 3: Are you going to think about or are you going to purchase a 550 in the future? Question 4: How many tons of dirt did you finally move with those 2 ponds you built?
