    Thank you so much for this review! It's been more than thirty years since I have purchased a sewing machine. Sewing machines have changed so much in recent years, I have to say, I've felt bewildered, and quite intimidated, looking at new ones. Thank you for making it sound so much simpler than I feared!

    I've just bought my new Brother FS100WT Sewing machine. At the moment I'm just getting used to all the new functions it has. This morning I came across your video and decided to watch it. Might I say it's very good. For today's lesson for me is to try a button hole. You explained it very well and I'm sure I should be able to achieve one. Thank you.

    Listen carefully! Your manual says not to oil as you are expected to take your machine for service by a repairman WHO WILL OIL/LUBRICATE it.
    If your machine never needs maintenance or you service it yourself, you definitely must lubricate periodically. I learned this the hard way! The company serviceman at Brother told me all this and when I asked him about the machine manual, he said "permanent doesn't mean forever." I doubt most sewists would know this unless a repairman told them bc permanent to most of us DOES mean forever.
    Hope this keeps your machine out of trouble.🙋

    Since you asked . . . When winding a bobbin, I do two things differently.
    1-set the speed control slider button to the middle, and
    2-disconnect the foot controller, then press the Start/Stop button (looks like an arrow pointing up ⬆️ ) to begin winding, and then
    3) press the Start/Stop button again when bobbin is finished winding - partially full or completely full.
    Yes, make sure the thread is set to wind on the bobbin; NOT underneath the bobbin.
    It may take a little practice, but after mastering this technique, I realized that my bobbins stitch so much better because the thread was wound onto them at a consistent, uniform speed.

    I love your review. It is a great machine to do little things such as sewing fabric, button holes, zig zig for applique but I couldn't help but notice your REAL workhorse in the background. The Juki! I have the 2010 and absolutely love it. I can see why the Brother would be perfectly fine for ordinary sewing but they need to know if they plan on sewing anything heavy duty, they may be a bit disappointed. That said, it looks like a great machine to do all normal sewing. Thank you for your review & time!

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi. Thank you for the very informative review. I'm considering a purchase. Could you tell me if you've tried the lettering stitches as of yet and any quick comment on those. Also, could you state how many actual decorative stitches there are as opposed to the usual zigzag and overcasting stitches. In other words, actual stitches as opposed to stitch applications which include what a single stitch - i.e. the zigzag stitch - can be used for. Thanks.

    • @DIYOnTheHouse
      @DIYOnTheHouse  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried the lettering stitches yet. Our daughter is getting married, so I have sewn miles and miles on the machine in the last month making table clothes and napkins and altering dressed!! Totally love the machine. I will try the lettering this weekend and let you know!

      @@barbaramack2897 I just looked, there are 60 decorative stitches. I just quickly tried the letter 'A" - SUPER EASY. • @barbaramack2897
      @barbaramack2897 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DIYOnTheHouse For me, the decorative stuff is the most important. i do hand embroidery and smocking which I've used with my doll dresses, but I plan to incorporate more decorative machine stitches into them so the more available the better for me. Thanks so much for replying and I hope you greatly enjoy your venture into the wonderful world of decorative stitches and monogramming!
