One thing I have found is when switching to different size rivets they will either not insert into the gun properly or the pins will not release & stay stuck in the jaws. This often requires dismantling the whole assembly to remove the stuck pin & then re-assembling. What I have found helps is to not fully tighten the large nut in the lid of the collection jar. This allows you to adjust the barrel that runs up to the fingers that grip the rivet pins. Insert a rivet fully with the handles in the wide open position & adjust the barrel until you feel the fingers just touching the rivet pin. Hand tighten the large nut & you should be all set. They should have included an instruction sheet with this.

I think its better to have both. Gun type works good when I had to replace revet on my tool box drawer. Two hand type wouldn't fit inside my drawer to do the work.
But I highly recommend to get the chunky gun riveter not the cheapest plastic/sheet metal one at Harbor freight.

thanx for sharing, these things are cheap enough that you don't upset when you loan it out to your brother and he claims he brought it back to you, but really didn't

Can you buy rivets with longer collars? I've seen some rivets on surfaces that are thicker than these e.g. lawn chairs they might be on like a 1" tubing for example.

Washers on the inside can really increase the impact of the rivet.

I'm currently assembling my W140 Lorinser bumpers and I decided to avoid using rivets. Too much PITA when removing rivets especially when that old bumper plastic is so fragile. One tiny mistake and your bumper mounting plastic bracket is cracked...

Yes those brackets can be a pain. Mine broke. I fixed and they broke again.

Do these guns work with plastic rivets for automotive inner wheel fender walls?
