    In your opinion, what are the plusses and minuses of the Iowa CIty area?

    • @JuLioVasquez95

      It's a safe and great place with many opportunities. On the other hand, the long winter and cold weather couldn't be something so good but if I wear the right clothes, everything will be ok 👌 😊

    • @timnewman1172
      @timnewman1172 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The minuses must include the current political climate of the state... our Governor and the majority party in the Legislature are very anti-public education!

    • @timnewman1172

      Also, the polluted water from ag runoff as well as the STINK of large livestock operations!

    • @Jellybeansatdusk
      @Jellybeansatdusk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn’t be scared of it! As long as you’re reasonable and aren’t out for a long time on the days when it’s absolutely freezing. Wet, cold snow is the best for snowmen and sledding!! Plus you can have a blizzard on one week and 80 degree weather the next. My gran always says something along the lines of “if you don’t like the weather, it’ll change soon enough!”

    We were born and raised in the Des Moines area and I remember the cold, snow and wind but it’s So So beautiful in the Spring and the fall. It has such a great family atmosphere. Everybody wears Hawkeye shirts and I do miss it sometimes. We’ve been in FL for 31 years and when we see someone with an Iowa license plate we get excited and wave at them.

    I have a snow question. Does it come and go, or keep piling up on the ground for months? In northeastern Kansas, we have a few snowfalls, but the snow usually completely melts in a week or so.

    • @EmilyFarber
      @EmilyFarber  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Diane Stewart If the winter is “normal” the snow often melts after a while...although not necessarily in just days. It’s not unusual to see bare ground in winter. However, if the winter is more on the severe side, you can get snow fall upon snow fall piling up. Last winter was a bad one, and we had deep piles of snow for quite a while!

      Christine Peñacerrada I don't think Americans are as racist as it sounds like we are to the rest of the world. Iowa City is a University town and extremely liberal. I would recommend Iowa City over other cities but Des Moines should be nice too. Hope you like corn because no mater where you are in Iowa, there are corn fields in every direction for as far as you can see.😃

      There are lots of lakes and rivers, but nothing on the scale of the Great Lakes. Tons of people go tubing on the Cedar River though and you can definitely do things like fishing and water skiing, it just depends on the area you’re in.

  • @alexandriaann6031

    I agree with most but I will say Iowa city is not affordable 😂 you can’t find a small house for less than $200,000 here and if you want a decent size home be prepared to spend $300k to $700k on it

    • @EmilyFarber
      @EmilyFarber  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iowa City IS more expensive than many places in Iowa, but when compared to the nation it’s not terrible. It is possible to find a single family home 1200-1800 sq/ft under $250,000. It won’t be new, but it is possible if buyers are open to looking in a variety of neighborhoods. It’s a hugely competitive price bracket so buyers need to be ready to be decisive and act quickly. The entry point for 2bd/1ba condos is generally the low $100,000s. A home in the $700,000 range would definitely be considered “upper end” and the square footage on a house that size would easily be around 3,500+ sf/ft.

    • @Jellybeansatdusk
      @Jellybeansatdusk 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have never met anyone who owns a home worth more than $250,000, but where I grew up we really didn’t have the most competitive real estate market. My mom and stepdad ended up buying a 5 bedroom, two and a half bath with an unfinished basement and huge beautiful kitchen and two living room areas for $185k, and it’s by far the fanciest home I’ve ever lived in. We had to do some minor renovations and had to buy a washer and dryer and replace the glass stovetop, but it wasn’t terrible because the house was such a steal. So it definitely depends where in Iowa you live!

    IT SOUNDS LIKE PARADISE COMPARED TO THE POPULIST B.S. I"M DEALING WITH ON THIS COAST. IF SOMEONE CALLS ME JAZZ ONE MORE TIME I'M GOING TO SCREAM. Hi David. I moved from No. California to Iowa a few months ago. I miss the more comfortable weather of California. In contrast, there are many positive aspects to living in Iowa City. It has a lower cost of living, is safe, has less traffic and people, better schools, better sense of community, MUCH less of a homeless problem, etc. Unfortunately, there are waaaaaaaaay too many low-life and ghetto blacks here! :( Iowa City has a 26% poverty rate which is no surprise. :(
