    As to the question about tornadoes, being as you're in Iowa City, I remember the Iowa City tornado, Apr 13, 2006. I was on my Krispy Kreme route in Coralville for that one.

    I love your channel! My wife is from Parkersburg, IA, but went to school in Iowa City! We are currently in Montana and looking to move to the Midwest. I love how friendly everyone is and the humidity (I'm weird). We just got back and I am already ready to go back. :)

    I enjoyed the video, and gave you a like. I like your channel. I am from Urbandale, a suburb of Des Moines and have not lived there since the 80s. Things have really changed (for the worse but I am just talking about urban sprawl...it is is still a great place to live). My home town was rural in my day and now is city -- over-run by Des Moines. But it still has that small town feel. I never hung out in Iowa City but it looks OK to me, much preferable to my current situation in Ohio (which sucks). People are generally nice in Iowa, food is great and I say relocating to Iowa is a great move. Another thing I noticed: People talk slower in Iowa (at least central) as compared to Ohio -- I can't understand people here and I am no dummy, I have a PhD in engineering but Ohio folks talk at the speed of light. Iowa is more relaxed, I guess. Iowa is great but please don't ruin it so I can retire there and be left alone. I love Iowa!

    Nicely done, haters be damned.I'm originally from the Cedar Falls area, and I am looking forward to moving back later this year. You videos remind me of all the things I have to look forward to. Especially looking forward to Taco John's, and Casey's pizza.

    Other outdoor activities, shooting, archery, hunting, fishing, boating, Iowa may not have an ocean, but it has an east and a west coast and lots more in between. Hiking, camping, although little backpacking, horseback riding, cross country skiing, snow mobile riding, winter bicycling,. While there is precious little tallgrass prairie in Iowa, there are many parks where you can experience this. There are numerous historic sites, 3 small national park sites. And sometimes it is just nice to take a break from fishing to watch an eagle soar above the lake you are at. Running is made easy because of all the bicycle trails, rural roads and sidewalks in most towns. In some Iowa state and county parks or private locations you can hunt for fossils, explore caves, dig for geodes, walk in cool woods on a hot summer day, and because the soil is so good in most of Iowa you can do some gardening. Small towns have summer softball and tennis leagues, there are school sports, running clubs, cycling clubs, you can rent canoes and kayaks in many places. There's no mountains, but some small downhill skiing and tubing. And then there's always cooking and eating outside in Iowa.
    Traffic?, I'm from Massachusetts, lived in 5 other states including Iowa and traveled extensively. Even a bad day of traffic in Iowa with a winter pileup on I80 is less of an inconvenience to driving almost anywhere in Massachusetts, or near Chicago, Columbus, Indianapolis, Cleveland or Dallas. The winter pileup, you get off 80 onto US 6, go a few miles at a reasonable speed then get back on 80. Iowa City and Des Moines very rarely have bone numbing traffic jams. Most smaller cities and towns barely have traffic lights.

      @@EmilyFarber And I forgot to mention all the golf courses in Iowa. There are over 400 golf courses in Iowa. It would take a couple years to play them all. And for viewing outdoor sports, the PGA has many minor and larger tour events in Iowa, there's minor league baseball, and every high school and college sport to watch or have the kids participate in.
      I escaped from a communist country (Massachusetts)to be in Iowa. I love it here. The exurbs and rural towns are almost like being in 1950's America. I miss seafood, but there's lots of crappie in the local ponds and lakes.

    Most annoying bug in Iowa in my op is the may fly! OMG they are awful but it's a brief season! You can repel mosquitoes with avon skin so soft and it smells nice, non toxic...not DEET anyway.
    I went to a Luther League (church youth group) in Denver Colorado when I was in high school. There were kids from every state there. We got asked regularly if we had electricity in Iowa. This was in 1985. 😂

      Oh my--the may flies can be INTENSE in river towns. They literally cover everything....but you're right. Only for a few days. Thank God!

    A lifelong Marylander, I recently retired and moved away, Maryland esp. the Baltimore/DC area is just too expensive. I came to Iowa out of curiosity and I have been here 2 years now, it's very nice and yes the people are friendly and hard-working. However, I don't agree with this "bottle fee" thing, perhaps you should mention how that works in your next video.

    I was wondering if you had any opinions or advice on apartments and shared housing near campus for students? I understand that you’re more into buying/selling, but I bet you know a good amount about the rental scene.

    According to my research on Iowa. Iowa is ranked 12th lowest cost of living, is this true? How many prairies does Iowa city have? You are the greatest ❤️ miss Farber. Great educational video.

    • @EmilyFarber
      @EmilyFarber  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Cost of living ranks very depending upon the source. I’ve seen Iowa ranked as 12th least expensive, 17th least expensive, etc...so I don’t have an exact answer for you on that. Finding actual virgin prairie can be difficult since so much of Iowa is in farmland, but there is still prairie left to explore...some examples of places in or near Iowa City that have prairie are Hickory Hill Park, Finkbine Prairie, Williams Prairie State Preserve, and FW Kent Park. Thanks for watching, Ted.

      Iowa City is definitely on the pricier side, but there are some dirt cheap places to live, so it all depends on location, location, location 😂

    Why no helmet law in iowa

  • @Cabbage_Town

    Why do people in Iowa pass you and pull 1/2 car length in front of you? I learned to merge over with at least 3 car lengths. I have bad luck with rocks being flung up. Drives me crazy people pulling inches in front of your front bumper.

    • @EmilyFarber
      @EmilyFarber  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I learned the three car length rule of thumb, too. I don't know what to tell you about drivers in Iowa...I haven't noticed that drivers in Iowa are any better or worse than drivers in any other state I've visited recently.
