I'm back with a new update on our barn conversion / French farmhouse renovations. I don't have a lot of time to make these at the moment so I haven't been able to add the subtitles for my last few videos. I do apologize for this as I know some of you may not be able to follow. I promise I will add them again after this huge sprint we're doing to get things finished before the cottage re-opens!

The „problem“ of people with visions: they are able to see the finished beauty before their inner eye. And forget those endless little steps before everything is accomplished. Plus the myriads of tasks running different businesses, looking after children, feeding the family, cleaning, mowing etc. Your future kitchen is turning into a gem!

So much work but the pay off is going to be huge! You are creating such a beautiful home. I can’t wait to see the floor when it is finished. I think the variation in the tile color is going to make it far more interesting than if the tile were all the same color, but what a job to lay them out to their best effect! 😊

Haha! It is my way of taking a moment to pause and keep calm in the chaos. My friend and I just loved our little picknick!
Don't forget you will have to linseed or some kind of penetrating oil those tiles and they will be a darker and maybe more pinky hue in the end. Try one and see what it will look like. 😉

Good tips! In the US, I've relied on my minivan (essentially a cargo van with the seats down or out) for renos. Can't wait to see the floor!

Tigrette! So calm and beautiful. The tomettes are a challenge- you will need to sort and utilize your artistic sense. It will be just what you envisioned when done.

The floor is going to be drop dead stunning. All of your work so worth it. I am without words while watching you and Olaf wrestle back and tame your home and grounds. I know something of living in a building site - my 1st (yep) husband and I built a home from the ground up. It was the end of us. I was PG with our two children over the course of the 2 year process. To be fair - we would have ended anyway - but those were hellish days. Listen Marloes - my 3rd (yep - took a few runs at it to get it right) husband and I are so easy - and we will NOT cause you extra work when we come stay with you. Whatever you’re making yourself for breakfast is fine by us! XO Do take care of yourself along this way - we all are so amazed and impressed - no worries as it relates to us. In fact - put us to work if you like!

OMG. I promise I am not making this up. We just picked out 8 inch hexagonal Saltillo tiles for our kitchen. During the remodel (still not done), I had to smash all the square Saltillo tiles so the cabinets would sit on the slab. I wanted a different style to set the kitchen different from the rest of the house (squares are everywhere). Mine come pre-sealed so that will save me a step.

Et selon eux l’entretien et le nettoyage vv plus faciles avec le vernis et la cire donc ça m’a convaincue 😂

I'm thinking that your kitchen is going to be amazing with its finished! I'm excited for you! It must be like a dream living there. I was wondering if you have to oil or put a sealant on your terrace cotta tile floor. I have seen another reno video of a couple renovating an old villa in Italy and they redid the terrace cotta floors and oiled them. Alot of work, but they turned out beautifully. I'm sure yours will be beautiful as well. Can't wait to see it finished. I will tune in after we return from the Netherlands. Exciting.

Crossing my fingers for you! Technically you don’t need permission. For this one (under 20m2) you only need to declare it with a déclaration préalable de travaux.
You say you did" a treatment "what exactly does that mean are your fruits and vegetables from your garden organic... or not😊
It’s nematodes that’s like a bacteria that will eat the grubs and it’s complete harmless for your garden.
I love the tiles. Do you have to seal them once they’re laid? That has put me off using terra cotta in the past. I’d drop oil on them for sure and then be annoyed at myself forever!

The reality of making beds! Isn’t that the worst, putting on the quilt cover? You must have so much washing too, with family AND guests. And cooking, and collecting things, and gardening…. Oh to be young enough to be able to keep up again.
Oh yes, never ending laundry. We are happy we started this project in our early 40s as we knew it would be so much harder if we waited another 10 years and be less fit 😂 We’re putting in the hard work now so we can enjoy it when we need more rest!

It doesn’t annoy me at all! I only tie it back when cooking for guests or when it is inconvenient while performing an activity. I actually keep it down on purpose while working outside as I have an allergic reaction to sunlight so I mix between wearing a sun hat and keeping my hair down (and I use sunscreen). Thanks for your concern though!
