fantastic video! im currently doing a DS2 playthrough for the first time in about two years and ive learned a few good tricks from this video and will definitely be putting them to use
21:00 weapon buffs in ds2 are weird, they're intended to be used on infused weapons, adding 30 + 30% of their respective element on the weapon. Wirh equal resistances, this results in around a 15-25% increase in damage, depending on the weapon
That being said, resins only work on unupgraded weapons. Also, ds2 uses a defence system similar to ds3, where it has a flat reduction based on area, and then a % negation (or bonus if they're weak to it) based on the enemy type. Physical damage is the only type that can ever do more than its AR because some enemies are weaker to is (~30% weakness to strike is pretty common), whereas all spell damage is resisted to some extent, and a 'weakness' is just determined by which elemental damage type that enemy resists the least
Yeah I didn't realise that ultra greatswords had sweetspots either until after this run, I thought it was only halberds and reapers. One thing this run highlighted for me is how terrible a lot of the info online is for this game compared to the others in the series. Re infusion buffing though, resonant weapon is so strong it still gives a bigger boost than for example using great magic weapon on a magic infused weapon, this I actually did test myself.

The best damage you can get in the basically requires using sweet spot weapons, mundane infusion, and going full hypermode. The end game version of the build generally always devolves to full strength bonk builds or helix spear.
Could also be a headshot, though that's probably less likely, as a lot of humanoid bosses in DS2 strangely dont have headsgot hitboxes, even if it makes sense for them to have one
Dark Souls 2 truly is the best Souls game out there, letting you experience both extreme highs of happiness and extreme lows of sadness and depression and everything in between. There are two weapons you might have overlooked during this run, which would be the Gyrm Great Hammer and Gyrm Greataxe. There's also the biggest bonking stick in the game the Giant Warrior Club.
Reason why you sometimes did little damage to najka is that if you hit the tail while they're on the ground from the stab down attack you deal something like 1/3 of your damage. (in exchange of cutting the tails off.)
I like to imagine that epic metal music was playing in real time as JK slaughtered the npc's. Such an epic montage. It's a shame you couldn't do more, but you did fantastic with how far you made it. It was a good shot
About the fear of locking yourself out of Climax: Why didn't you just start a new character, cheat in everything you want, kill the old man, beat Dark Lurker normally, and check if you get Climax or not? That'll give you the intel without ruining your contest run. Unless there's a specific rule saying "you are not allowed to gain intel you don't already know", which I highly doubt, since you could use wikis. And that's a suggestion if you want to keep it "in-house". Other one is asking the community if it's locking you out or not. Of course, expect mixed answers, but if 90% say "it doesn't lock you out", I'd say it's valid enough to believe them. I'd still check myself using the first method, though :)
To be fair, I could have done that but I so was convinced that I would have locked myself out of it and didn't want to waste 3 hours waiting for Grandahl's gravestone to appear just to test it. In the end, it made for a better story anyway that I got that far without the most powerful spell in the game 🙂
You can animation cancel channler trident's buff with rolling. If you do that too early, it does not give you the actual buff, but it is actually possible to cancel animation and get the buff
This, in my opinion, was more interesting than the Dark Souls run due to the vast amount of options and combinations at your disposal. I definitely think this shows to how creative they were with build options in Dark Souls II

He's doing another one? Still waiting on the results of the first one that he kept having technical issues with. (Still gonna watch tho, fun even outside the competition)
First one has been out for 4 months
Have I got news for you
Lo I /was/ gonna say “no one tell them” but nah. Bro got the heads up. Love the comment tho my dude😂
Even with all the brick walls in this challenge your persistence is commendable. Well done green man
leveling vitality was a mistake- having less equip load means you get tne bonus from Flynn ring
Your videos never disappoint me. The rhymes in your videos summon chimes to my ears.
Your videos are entertaining, keep it up!❤🎉
Gotta miss vanilla letting you buff your infused weapons. Honestly would love to see this challenge done on vanilla.
I feel like lemon is trying to instill the same kind of existential dread that he felt in the immolation only run with this one.
Hi JK, thanks for this amazing Video. I have massive respect for you and the other contestants doing what cannot be done. 🎉
"Hey its Lemon, Welcome to the phone call" is top teir
Nice video and well played as always, cheers from Germany
That looks just like the bandits in "The snuggly duckling" From "Tangled"
There are two weapons you might have overlooked during this run, which would be the Gyrm Great Hammer and Gyrm Greataxe.
There's also the biggest bonking stick in the game the Giant Warrior Club.
I can not fathom how you manage to pull so many puns out of your videos! Pure Gold imo
0:31 this is my ringtone, automatically i grabbed my phone lmao
Awesome Vid!
Thank You very much for Your Work! Greetings from Germany!
Reason why you sometimes did little damage to najka is that if you hit the tail while they're on the ground from the stab down attack you deal something like 1/3 of your damage. (in exchange of cutting the tails off.)
Absolutely madness, good luck to the others who will participate
Surprised Lenny isn’t in the contest
The content feast begins. Going to be watching DS2 runs for the next few weeks/months.
Yeees, was hoping we would get one for DS2 too
Yes!
Retro, I remember people sending these runs on Dark Souls 2 release! Going to have to play this game again.
I like to imagine that epic metal music was playing in real time as JK slaughtered the npc's. Such an epic montage. It's a shame you couldn't do more, but you did fantastic with how far you made it. It was a good shot
You know, I can believe that Lemon would start a call with "welcome to the phone call"...
The selection of background music is immaculate
About the fear of locking yourself out of Climax:
Why didn't you just start a new character, cheat in everything you want, kill the old man, beat Dark Lurker normally, and check if you get Climax or not?
@@JKLeeds better story, yeah, but at the cost of your poor poor sanity.
Here's waiting for your next challange run :)
Challengerandy does some crazy runs but he never gets enough attention
Me at 13:30 "oh no, does he not know you can stack infusions and spell buffs in this game?"
16:55 "oh thank God"
You can animation cancel channler trident's buff with rolling. If you do that too early, it does not give you the actual buff, but it is actually possible to cancel animation and get the buff
Rules of Nature goes so hard for this theme lol. Peak
Cant believe you really did this speedrun oneshotting all these bosses on first attempt! Amazing! 😊
Andy being forever the gigachad like last time I see, a whole google doc is crazy
YES! Oh, sweet, sweet suffering! Pure and unfiltered.
Damn that's good!
In all seriousness - amazing job JK! Good luck in the contest.
Hug ❤
Final strike on LGK did 1337. This was truly the fate of the Chosen Undead.
Let's hope Lemon can squeeze out some extra damage in his summary video...
The smelter demon kill was actual genius
I'd have told you that it's ok. the Lemon Can't hurt you... but well... You took up the challenge.
Btw you used halberd wrong, they do more damage if you hit with the tip. Considerably more damage
This, in my opinion, was more interesting than the Dark Souls run due to the vast amount of options and combinations at your disposal. I definitely think this shows to how creative they were with build options in Dark Souls II
i love this vid keep up the good work
