Sorry for you mate. We have idiots like that in my state in Australia that want to lock up all the wilderness areas. They prevented controlled burning and half the country recently burned up. I'm referring to the idiots that prevent you from using trees for your hammock. I use a wide webbing for my hammocks that protect the trees and should keep everyone happy, much easier option than a big rack to take with you.
We call them Greens and they are usually from the city and have no clue about true conservation.
P.S. I enjoy your vids and product reviews. 👍

For winter hammock camping, I use a good old fashioned mil spec poncho and liner (woobie). I set up the hammock and attach the liner to the inside of the poncho. Then I wrap the poncho around the hammock and snap closed. This creates a blanket/waterproof liner that I push down to the foot area. If I get cold or it starts raining, I just reach down and pull it up over me. I add a small line to it and attach so I can’t pull it too far leaving my feet uncovered. Try it out. It is easy and lightweight and surprisingly warm.

You are absolutely right about the west coast especially Washington state. And be aware that even if you are camping on BLM land and the law sets you can stay 14 days and must move at least 5 miles away. They will threaten to tow your vehicle and arrest you. That was our first experience in Washington as we tried to spend a month around the Cascades. The hammock is awesome btw. Gonna have to check in to one as I like taking the dogs out on the spur of the moment

In Australia the storms knock over trees like 10 pins at a bowling alley. So your idea is great. Also freestanding hammock stands are great, I ride an Adventure Motorcycle suitable for spanning the entire continent and space is limited so I go with the Tensa Solo setup, keeps me up and away from snakes, scorpions, spiders, because everything in the bush in Australia wants to kill you. In my next life I am going to be born in New Zealand there are no predators in that country,

Ii think it is so cute that you think you're old. Heh, I'm 55 and I still ground camp from time to time. I use my DD Travel hammock as a bivi and a 4m x 4m tarp which I fold Into a variety of shelters/tents as the situation warrants. The only problem I have is finding a decently level spot here in WV so I don't roll down hill in the night. Thus, I usually hang the hammock. That having been said, I love this and all your videos. Thank you for all the info!

Don’t put the carabiner directly on the metal hole. Put the hammock cords trough the hole and use carabiner on the outside of hole to keep the cord from slipping back out. It also helps to use a little piece of hose on the cord to keep it from fraying. I ruined some very expensive carabiners by snapping them directly to the metal loop hole.

I have the McLean Metal Works Adventure Hammock System that’s similar to what you have and I love it. 1 minute setup. Relax anywhere.
