Black rifle coffee company had some instant coffee at one time. Course it is sold out right now but it was called Black Powder. Says its coming back soon on their website. Maybe they would give you a free sample as a fellow channel.
After several weeks of watching this channel, I assembled a "pack" for myself and decided to try an overnight. My son in law has 22 acres with a little patch of woods on the rear of the property, located in Central Kentucky. I arrived around noon, trekked about 1/2 mile back and found a place to set up camp. After setting up my lean to, using "Quick Deploy Ridge Line", I built my wind screen by cutting seven or eight trees. It wasn't exactly what Corporal Kelly would call "Excellent" or Good to go", but it wasn't bad for my first time. The leaves were to wet to used my trash bags as Grouse bags, so I just laid my sleeping bag on top of them. I then started about the task of gathering firewood. My son in law arrived about 4:30 pm. We set up his tarp as a lean to. Once again, using the QPRL. Since I am out of shape and the tree cutting and hauling wore me out, I let him collect the rest of the firewood. I will spare the details of the meal. (No Bacon, though) We were warm for most of the evening until it got to 27 degrees and most of the firewood was gone. (Hint: we you think you have enough go get the same amount or more). I was fine in my Ol School Coleman, but Cody just had a bag that was rated for 50 degrees or so. Poor guy nearly froze to death and was up all night stoking the fire, which was fine with me because there were some coyotes just across the creek. MY only request is for a video showing how to set up for two people. We had our lean to's facing each other and the wind screen running perpendicular between us at out heads. All in all, I had a great time and didn't fare too badly for an out of shape, overweight 62 year old. I did find out I NEED a good, lightweight sleeping bag, a sleeping pad and more comfortable boots. (I wore my slip on Cowboy Boots). Thank you Corporal Kelly for you inspiring videos. I will definitely be going back out again. Maybe with some Bacon.
As an audio engineer, I can tell you, that the audio mixing/sound quality in this video was amazing. Almost ASMR level of detail, tone, etc. The older 30+ minute videos, and the longer commentary and shooting the sh$t, the more formal/detailed descriptions and thorough breakdowns of your actions, I really enjoy those things. Thanks for many years of great content. My daughter and I love watching you, she has grown up with you as a role model. Wishing you the best Corporal.
Hi Corporal Bacon......love your videos.....bacon at the top of the food chain...yum yum....I learn so much from watching your videos....I am 73 and had a stroke and can not do what you do anymore but it is refreshing to watch you teaching survival skills...…..
It pays to have watched many of your earlier videos because you do an outstanding job of showing the techniques you’ve been teaching all along the way. Choosing a site, hanging your bag, the three prong rake, clearing your site, setting the ridgeline with a timber and truckers hitch, pulling the tarp right with prussiks, staking the tarp and sealing with leaves... and on and on. Constantly using the skills you teach. When you first raked up the leaves I thot you were going to stuff them in one of those heavy duty plastic bags you’ve used before and make a mattress. In the morning when you woke up, I could hear the “rough night” in your voice. Dead tired but can’t get comfortable... I hate those nights. Daybreak can’t get there quickly enough. Another great video CK..! Thank you!!
Have you ever thought of entering for the true survivor series, Alone from the History channel? With your skills, it would be a no-brainer for you. Plus, it would be awesome to root for a person we know. Nothing beats beannies and weenies for happy tummy syndrome on a cool night. Great idea for teaching techniques with the overnights! We'll keep watching! Thank you for sharing a part of your day with us!

My very fave camp coffee: Folgers Coffee Singles. Real ground coffee in tea bag containers. They are single serving. Toss in cold water and it’s ready when the water is hot. Put used bag in camp fire or bury - actually good for the soil. SECOND fave: General Foods flavored instant - various flavors, pre-sweetened, etc. and comes in single serving like your Tasters Choice (or at least it used to). Great vid - I’ve never tried a wind screen like you built - thanks for the hint and the camp recipe. Ray, near Durango.

Buy a cheap spool of twine or thin rope and practice your knot tying along with Corporal while watching these videos. Easy excuse to practice those knots over and over, until tying them is second nature.
I started binging on these general preparedness videos randomly, and found your series. I have to say: your focus on "getting out in the field" to learn skills and learn how to employ the gear is the number one value content of your entire set. Camping is fun in and of itself, and by golly, you do not want to be fumbling around learning or trying to do basic stuff on day one of a local or national disaster, should one occur. Keep charging, and thanks for the uploads. (edit) RE instant coffee, MRE coffee instant type 2, try MRE Mountain, get sack of packets for $2
Like you, I’ve been looking for a good tasting instant coffee. Don’t think they have little packets but I really like Medaglia D’Oro instant espresso. Put it in those little snack baggies for pack trips. Haven’t tried the Black Rifle yet but plan on it. Appreciate your tips and really like the way you regularly show how to tie your knots in slow steps even if you’ve shown them many times. 👍
Coffee: I tested many types of instant coffee and have been using Bustelo Supreme in the jar (Target) on a daily basis and Bustelo yellow packets for camp (also Target).
Hey Man, really enjoy the videos. I have a request, can you think about producing a video incorporating one-handed techniques, or methods to utilize in the event of an injury and you have to get through the night before you can bug back home? Thanks and keep up the good work!
@@bradquall1547 Thank you, brother. I'm still fairly new to bushcraft/greyman, but I'm not new to this planet; I've seen some shit. So I try to think scenarios through and prepare accordingly. Getting hurt in the woods as a new bushcrafter is a distinct possibility and knowing how to adapt would prove to be a powerful tool.
I agree with ya 100 %.. I run in my head alot. What ifs..i study maps on where to go if anything did happen. Elevations , ridge lines , gullys to use for moving throughout the woods unseen. But your thought is one not many think of..lots of people dont think things will happen to them. I was watching his video here and got a chuckle..cause when i was in my 20s out on my own.. I Couldn't start a fire with a gas truck and blow torch..all i could think of for a bit was if i was there doing what hes doing in my earlier years waking up to a 9000 acker fire..cant start a fire when i want one and wake up ta this ? LoL. I good now .. Fire skills are better.. 😆
@@bradquall1547 Totally, it's easy to take the obvious like starting a fire for granted when your sitting behind your computer, I'm guilty of it. Though I try to practice the hardest fire-starting methods under fair conditions in my back yard at the fire pit; ferro rod and my Benchmade Bushcrafter or a bow drill set knowing that I can start a fire in the rain with some Gorilla tape and a Bic lighter. If you haven't seen the Corporal's video on that, check it out, good one for sure.
Well it says the comment did not go through, but to this old 7th Fleet sailor, the best way out of your predicament is to use REAL coffee. One Tablespoon per two cups or one mug. You can either cook the coffee in your canteen and filter it through a sheet of a paper towel into your mug, or just make the paper towel into a little pocket over your mug, put the coffee in the middle and pour hot water from your canteen over it. Either way real coffee this way is ten time better than instant any way - and this is coming from a former forward deployed steaming, screaming E5 Gunners Mate who runs exclusively on high octane black coffee.
I use a tea infuser (also known as a tea ball) and regular ground coffee. The tea infuser is about the size of a 35mm film can so it doesn't take space or weight. With the tea infuser you can use any coffee you like. Give it a try and you won't drink instant coffee again.
Starbucks VIA Instant Coffee is really good. A lot better than the Folgers or Maxwell House instant coffee. I took a bunch of it out to Arizona when it first came out. I think you can still get it at Target or Walmart. Think they have about 4 different types of roasts to choose from.
came here to say this, I had one this morning just to see if it would be sufficient because I like very strong coffee and it was the best instant option I've tried.
Yep, was going to say the same thing. One of the better one's I've had to date but I haven't tried them all yet. I see some other brands mentioned above that I will have to try.
From what I've read so far "" recently "" with Starbucks policy on self protection "" "IE" police not being armed and welcomed in their establishments, guess I'm not going to be supporting them any longer by purchasing their products.
wish i could afford a class. im still new to camping / hiking but fell in love when i picked up an eno hammock / tarp set up when watching one of your videos with it a few years back. i usually go with a few friends at least once a year in the north jersey area of the AT. the only way i learn bush skills are from watching channels like yours and maybe ill come across an experienced outdoorsman on the trail thatll give me some advice, and what i learn from my own mistakes when out in the woods. this has become a really big part of my life despite being new to it, living in the city all my life ive noticed how beautiful the nature is outside of the concrete jungle i live in and how much im missing out on every day. cheers corporal kelly sir, i really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to share your knowledge and experience with us. individuals like you are truly what make this country the great country that ive been so blessed to be born into. god bless!
Bacon, eggs, beans, What's not to like? In my younger days, it's been bread and roasted squirrel. And if you don;t know there is damned little meat on a squirrel.
I'm an absolute newbie, and absolutely love your channel, packed full of useful tips and techniques. Like cutting that branch while securing it between the crux of your knee, priceless. Thanks from the UK
I used to crave my “candy coffee” full of sugar and creamer. But lately I learned to enjoy it “hot, strong, and black”. My solution to camping coffee is Turkish coffee. It’s super fine ground coffee beans. you just simmer a heaping tablespoon in some water until it foams up. Let the fine grounds settle and pour into a cup (or sip carefully to not stir up the grounds). Could be done in your empty bean cans so no special equipment needed!
David cirval I actually use a fairly fine grind for my cowboy coffee. It comes out great. No need for a course grind. The ground still settle. In regards to “boiling the crap out of it” ...that’s what makes it so good. Boiling it mellows it out. Give it a try if you haven’t
Let me just say from one vet to another thank you for your service. I enjoy your content very much, especially now with your playful banter with a touch of humility 😏😏😏... keep up the good work marine!
If you're willing to experiment... Use an auto drip coffee, and the filters, with a stapler to make "Tea Bags". You have to adjust how much coffee in each filter, and how many filters you will use to make each portion. Ziplock bags keep them fresh, so to speak. Good luck, and yes there is nothing like a Percolator. Have a good day
Black Rifle Coffee Company; took their coffee with me on my last deployment and it was fantastic ... BUT ... I just throw the ground coffee into the pot of water and boil... when done add a pinch of salt to get the grounds to settle and enjoy the brew ...
I watched some hiker guy recently who was showing his food supply - he was eating all kinds of interesting things like Salmon, Ghee, and some super gourmet coffee...I will see his name again and remember you. I enjoy your videos. In the meantime, Medaglio D'Oro instant comes in a real small bottle and I love it. For a lighter coffee I like Starbucks Via Veranda Blonde, which you can buy in individual packets, but the real Veranda brewed is just amazing. Thanks for all you do. Greetings from Vermont.
Some of the K-cups are instant coffee . If it has grounds in it after brewing it is regular brew coffee if it is empty after brewing it is instant. Even the brew type K-cups are good for carrying pre-measured coffee to brew in a french press or pour over type coffee maker.
maxwell house isn't terrible instant coffee and as an old infantryman myself I still enjoy solo camping. however now I have a pickup with a camper shell and a 6" foam mattress. Now I carry a chair, cooler and mr buddy heater and anything else I wish. I enjoy your videos. HOOAH!
Really enjoy your site! I was an Air Force survival intructor '55 - '58 at Stead AFB in Reno!! did LOTS of camping!!It's amazing all the things you can make from a parachute!h
FOLGERS COFFEE BAGS is what you're looking for. They work just like tea bags. In a minute you'll have a real cup of tasty, smooth coffee...just like home brewed.
I live in the UK and we can get coffee bags that work in the same principle as tbags they come in foil wrappers and keep for ages. They make good coffee.
Jacobs Kronung Millicano - the best instant coffee I have discovered so far. It actually tastes like coffee not some synthetic whatnot - the only drawback is it comes in tins not those small paper packages, but I usually just take as much as needed and seal it away in small airtight ziplock bags.
It's skills like this.. that u kindly share with us.. that will me me over line.. in an Armageddon crisis! I am truly grateful for these tips.. And learn from your mind and words how u cope when doing all this. Thanks
If you're looking for instant coffee still, Black Rifle Coffee has instant coffee sticks now. 32 packets for $25. Haven't personally tried it but I like their ground coffee. But as of right now I believe they are sold out.
Soft Fry Thick sliced bacon and set aside). Fry onions in bacon grease. Add the baked beans, brown sugar ketchup and mustard. Add the fried bacon when heated and yum.
Coffee also comes in a tea style drop into boiling water and drink... depending on how strong you like your coffee you can get at least two servings. I also carry a tin of bacon fat in my pack for cooking. Wipe out your pan and your done. Did I say BACON?
Yeah it's a year later but if your still interested just use dirt coffee you will find far more brands to choose from .Bring it to a rolling boil pour cool water over when ready the grounds will then sink to bottom you will enjoy a way better coffee then any instant type if you see this hope it helps .love that Arcturas I have one....
I'm 3 years too late but in the UK we can get Taylors coffee bags. Like a tea bag but coffee and individually wrapped like a fancy tea bag. They're lush 😊
For coffee. You can carry a second water bottle filled with coffee from the house then reheat it over the fire. Sure, it takes up more room and weighs a lot more than instant coffee packs but you have to decide just how much you like your coffee. 32 ounces will give you 3 to 5 cups of coffee ( sorta depends on your definition of "Cup"). Or you can go smaller on the bottle. Plus, I learned long ago a plain and simple truth. Cold coffee is a whole lot better than NO coffee, if for some reason you don't have time or luxury of a fire.Itseems like I remember that, I think it was Folgers, had coffee grounds in bags, like tea bags, at one time. If you can find them, boil the water, throw in the bag (or 2), let it steep for a bit, pull out the bag and you're good to go. When you're done, split the bags, scatter the grounds and throw the bag, tag and string on the fire. You can also use this method and several bags for refilling the second bottle if/when the opportunity presents itself over extended periods. Then there is Cowboy coffee. . . Personally, I don't care for chewable coffee. And most times, it will be.Thanks for the videos, Take care.
back when we was growing up we used to just use hot water and dirt ... none of this sissy-fied Actual coffee grounds! jeeze man ! also i made "Drops" for years, before i go on a trip i use some cheese clothe and tie the grounds in a ball ,when done , toss in fire .
Haven't done the dirt thing since I was 5 with my sister's mud pies. Never used cheesecloth, though. hankies, socks and even a t-shirt once. Runnin' and Gunnin' you can't be too choosy.
You and Dave are the best videos to watch in my opinion. My reason is because you guys are actually out there DOING the work and staying the night out there and teaching people in classes. Big difference in talking and doing. Thank you for your work sir! 🤘🇺🇸💪
For a pillow, exped makes a down inflatable pillow, compresses down to size of a large fist and super comfy, does not feel like your head is resting on a balloon.
I would tell you that at Walmart you can purchase Maxwell House or Folgers singles whereby the coffee is in a tea bag. Not instant like you asked, however, it steeps in no time and you can double up the "coffee bags" to make it stronger. They come in individual mylar? packs one per pack. Really though, it is virtually as fast as instant. You won't be disappointed as it is much better than instant because it isn't. About 40 per box for about $8.
Oh man, I LOVE bell peppers and onions. I am so hungry right now. Great tips on building the campsite too! I especially like that neat trick to hold your backpack up off the ground. Thank you.
Have you tried regular coffee in tea bags ? They’re in the coffe section of most grocery stores. Taste like regular coffe, better than any instant that I’ve tried so far. Just make your hot water and leave them in until strong enough. I use 2 to 3 at a times depending on container size. Light as tea bags to carry. I’ve used Folgers and have seen them In generic store brands.
It’s great to see someone like yourself talking about instant coffee instead of ground, beans and how to make it in the wild. I use Maxwell House 3 in 1 here in Ireland whenever I do an overnighter. Coffee/Milk and Sugar all in one sachet. Pretty cheap too. I know a fee others who use Nescafé 2 in 1 but not sure if you can get either in the states dude. Worth a look if you can!

Yep. Seen that one. I dont have issues starting fires now.. But when i was younger i sure did..
Try Black Rifle instant coffee, you can order it off their website.
Folgers coffee singles , real coffee in tea bags. I like them better than instant.
Yet another outstanding instructional video. Carry on.
Thanks Shawn looking forward to the weekly solo again thanks for taking the time
Black Powder instant coffee from Black Rifle Coffee Co.
Black Rifle coffee it's called
"black powder"
the cooking is always my favorite part of these videos! i like it so much i started a series in my channel where i just cook in the wilderness!
Good thing that you're in a lean to. An enclosed space with those beans... KABOOM!!! Looks delish though!
Great one Corporal, thanks again.
"Outstanding."
24:23- shows temperature to rub it in that it is perfect weather for sleeping outdoors. Great video, Semper-Fi!!!
I use a tea infuser (also known as a tea ball) and regular ground coffee. The tea infuser is about the size of a 35mm film can so it doesn't take space or weight. With the tea infuser you can use any coffee you like. Give it a try and you won't drink instant coffee again.
That's a good idea. No need for a coffee pot or a percolator. And it would definitely taste better than instant coffee.
Black rifle coffee company has instant coffee packs
Starbucks VIA Instant Coffee is really good. A lot better than the Folgers or Maxwell House instant coffee. I took a bunch of it out to Arizona when it first came out. I think you can still get it at Target or Walmart. Think they have about 4 different types of roasts to choose from.
came here to say this, I had one this morning just to see if it would be sufficient because I like very strong coffee and it was the best instant option I've tried.
Yep, was going to say the same thing. One of the better one's I've had to date but I haven't tried them all yet. I see some other brands mentioned above that I will have to try.
I'll have to give the Starbucks a swirl!
Starbucks for instant coffee is the best I’ve found so far. They have a variety of blends to choose from to.
From what I've read so far "" recently "" with Starbucks policy on self protection "" "IE" police not being armed and welcomed in their establishments, guess I'm not going to be supporting them any longer by purchasing their products.
wish i could afford a class. im still new to camping / hiking but fell in love when i picked up an eno hammock / tarp set up when watching one of your videos with it a few years back. i usually go with a few friends at least once a year in the north jersey area of the AT. the only way i learn bush skills are from watching channels like yours and maybe ill come across an experienced outdoorsman on the trail thatll give me some advice, and what i learn from my own mistakes when out in the woods. this has become a really big part of my life despite being new to it, living in the city all my life ive noticed how beautiful the nature is outside of the concrete jungle i live in and how much im missing out on every day. cheers corporal kelly sir, i really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to share your knowledge and experience with us. individuals like you are truly what make this country the great country that ive been so blessed to be born into. god bless!
Can you do a mid week video teaching us a handful of knots and hitches everyone should know
He has videos of them
Thanks
Bacon, eggs, beans, What's not to like? In my younger days, it's been bread and roasted squirrel. And if you don;t know there is damned little meat on a squirrel.
Get coffee bags, real coffee in like a tea bag. Folgers calls them coffee singles. Just add hot water and let brew. Real coffee, not instant.
Agree 100%. We have tons of those from living in hotels. They make those with exceptional coffee beans too.
@@TictacAddict1 Folgers, not as good as what I normally drink but not bad for American coffee.
The starbucks instant coffees are good, I took them on a 70 mile back country hike. and they did a good job
The only problem with Starbucks is that it's Starbucks...one of the most anti-freedom, anti-2A, anti- American and pro-antifa companies out there.
I'm an absolute newbie, and absolutely love your channel, packed full of useful tips and techniques.
Like cutting that branch while securing it between the crux of your knee, priceless.
Thanks from the UK
I want to go camping now. It reminds me when my dad and I went we had a great time.
Anything but starbucks. Anything!
Black Rifle Coffee Company veteran own and operated

“The coffee is black.”
Response : “The geese are over Norway.”
Wild Geese? Or Geese Geese?
Birds aren’t real, they are all drones.
Definitely! Some call it “cowboy coffee”. I’m drinking it right now
Rick Urbanowski For sure but cowboy uses regular grind and you boil the crap out of it!
David cirval I actually use a fairly fine grind for my cowboy coffee. It comes out great. No need for a course grind. The ground still settle. In regards to “boiling the crap out of it” ...that’s what makes it so good. Boiling it mellows it out. Give it a try if you haven’t
Rick Urbanowski thanks, will do!
David cirval And I will try the Turkish version you describe! Cheers
Let me just say from one vet to another thank you for your service. I enjoy your content very much, especially now with your playful banter with a touch of humility 😏😏😏... keep up the good work marine!
Invest in a coffee percolator... there’s no such thing as good instant coffee.
Have a good day
if youre dead , you cant buy these ... lmfao
Greetings from Vermont.
another great video, thank you! Consider filling contractor trash bags with leaves and use as mattress
watch my other videos
Put your coffee grounds in a tea bag. Makes great coffee. Light weight and all you need to do is add hot water
That was great, Shawn. I'd love to see more of this pack in action. Thanks for bringing us along!
Brother, I've been using Teabags filled with my favorite Coffee grounds, been doing it for years
I live in the UK and we can get coffee bags that work in the same principle as tbags they come in foil wrappers and keep for ages. They make good coffee.
Black Rifle Coffee instant packets--good stuff.
Thanks
these videos are my favorite, so positive, entertaining, relaxing and informative
more to come
If you're looking for instant coffee still, Black Rifle Coffee has instant coffee sticks now.
Another brilliant build. Thankyou corporal.
Really like this overnight format. Looking forward to more.
When I was TDY I'd always go to Starbucks and pick 6-8 the same size you used in this vid. Excellent.
The Corporal's videos are always spot on.
Loved the part about washing dishes, burn the crap out of them, good to go!!!
I gotta say, I just found your channel a week or so ago and I'm really enjoying it! Thanks for doing these videos for us.
This is like poetry in motion👍👍👍
For a pillow, exped makes a down inflatable pillow, compresses down to size of a large fist and super comfy, does not feel like your head is resting on a balloon.
Hot fires, weenies ,baked beans, green peppers, and onions! ..OUTSTANDING!
Watching the video with my 6yo girl...she insisted I pause the video while she breaks away. We can't miss a minute. Keep it up!
Thank you.
Yeah that would work for clothing so it can dry.
Folgers coffee singles from Walmart aren’t bad they’re like a tea bag
It’s great to see someone like yourself talking about instant coffee instead of ground, beans and how to make it in the wild. I use Maxwell House 3 in 1 here in Ireland whenever I do an overnighter. Coffee/Milk and Sugar all in one sachet. Pretty cheap too. I know a fee others who use Nescafé 2 in 1 but not sure if you can get either in the states dude. Worth a look if you can!
I did a camp like that. Granted, I post-holed through four miles of Northern Wisconsin snow without snowshoes.
